I had the Ampeg SGT Di and I have to say that the super vintage origin sounds more ampeg than the ampeg itself. I bought both, black panel and supervintage and they are really wonderful.
@KristofferGildenlowАй бұрын
My thoughts too. Ampeg (including plug-ins) never seemed to sound as much Ampeg as I wanted them. The Super Vintage without cab sim is the amp-sound I know and love. :)

I have the origin blue Ampeg bass rig, and it took me some time to get used to my clean signal being pushed by the drive engine. Now that I’ve learned the controls whoa, best DI, clean and dirty preamp I’ve ever owned

That's an exceptional demo! One of the best I've seen. Thanks! I'd love to see a comparative demo of the Cali 76 Compressor with the Empress Bass Compressor. (Hint, hint.) Really surprised there aren't more videos comparing those two!

I don't have the empress compressor actually but it would sure be two great pedals to compare.

Good review..! Ever since my Ampeg Amp was stolen back in the wild eighties, during a tour..I was looking for a handy substitute ..but I never found one ...This ampeg clone has a fuzzy drive sound which is not my cup of tee,the fender clone sounds quite nice to my ears.. but.when it comes to an "analog" griddy and growling tone..I will stay with my Gallien Legacy Head ...By far the best sounding amp I ever had since ....no tubes but big balls ,punch and clarity at once...Thanks for saving my 400 bucks...
@markmosher63242 жыл бұрын
I agree. I had an original Ampeg Blue Face and an Alembic FX-1 preamp based on the Fender Bassman. I think a lot of these emulators go way too fuzzy. The Ampeg is a way cleaner, warmer amp than the really gainy emulators. I also love my GK Legacy with a tube preamp in front.

Excellent video Sir. Was leaning way towards the Supervintage until your tones on the '64 Black Panel. 19:02 through 19:27 especially great for my desired tone. My purposes are recording only. Also considering The Noble Bass Preamp.
@KristofferGildenlow3 ай бұрын
It sure has its own sound and depending on what you're looking for... I sometimes use it just as a growling overdrive pedal before hitting a clean output or into another pre-amp. The Noble is great but also quite expensive. I can also recommend the Nordstrand Starlifter, if you're looking for a clean DI/Pre to give your sound that little extra special sauce before hitting the DAW.

I would like to see a match up with the tech 21 VT bass DI ( which I own )before I would chase my tail and throw down some big money on this pedal
@KristofferGildenlow Жыл бұрын
Probably someone did that out there but the best way would be to go to a store that has the Bass Rig and bring your own pedal to compare with. Everything comes down to personal taste in the end. :)

These are cool but the SVT or V-4B Tube Amps still sound way better. Amps may not be practical for many but in terms of tone; the amps are still the way IMO. 20:29 on the Black Panel sounded sick but I would still rather an Amp. Nice Video.

I liked the clean in the black and the drive in the blue. The drive, in the black one, is not as defined as the blue one. The black one has more lows and mid presence than the blue.
@KristofferGildenlow2 жыл бұрын
Indeed. The black has more of a grown and feels very vintage. The blue has a much more defined sound all over. I use the blue one (without the XLR cab-sim output the most and the black more for that vintage growl sound. They are very diverse both of them and that's why I have them both om my pedal board.

Hey, man! Great demo! If I'm not mistaken, the EQ on the '64 works different than on the SV, though. Meaning, everything at noon isn't flat as it is modelled after a Fender tone stack. Flat should be roughly around 2 - 10 - 2 (B/M/T). Cheers.
@KristofferGildenlow2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's very Fender-is in its original sound and the subtle EQ is just giving you the possibility to tweak it a bit, just like the original amp. I remember always being annoyed with that back in the days, that I couldn't boost or cut things more than that but now I get it that they didn't want to steal away too much from the intended sound... and what a great sound it is, so fully understandable ;)

another epic content as always. I am currently using a black edition DCX Bass in EQ mode as a tone shaper with my Darkglass Alpha Omega Photon. Now, I'm just waiting for my OE Bass Rig 64 Black to arrive to add to my minimalist fly rig. I plan to place the Bass Rig at the end of the chain (EBMM Stingray 4 > DCX Bass > DG Alpha Omega Photon > 64 Black). I intend to use the DCX Bass as a boost or for my clean tone, and have my Darkglass drive the Bass Rig. Considering that they are all preamps, would it be too much to have three preamps on one board? If you can please create a content stacking pre amps like origin with darkglass would be killer.
@KristofferGildenlow4 ай бұрын
Guitar players have been stacking overdrives and preamps for decades, why not bass players? I usually have 2-3 pre-amps on my board in order to get the right sound for each song. Depending on the order of the pedals, you'll get different results when stacking them. I say... go ahead and try it! See what you come up with. Remember: if it sounds good, then it is good. There's no right or wrong here!
@hiraxxvandana84084 ай бұрын
@@KristofferGildenlow Thanks for the advice! I've actually tried stacking the 64 Black Panel with my Darkglass Alpha Omega Photon and DCX Bass, and I finally achieved the killer tone I've been looking for. Stacking really does make a huge difference!

The only thing is why they didn't have a switch to go between clean and dirty
@KristofferGildenlow5 ай бұрын
I get you. More like a programable version or one without the gain stage. Probably to get closer to the actual amps, who don't have that. I sure hope they'll make mk 2 versions one day in the future where they might add the cab-sim on/off with and preferably an OD-channel.

I’m close to ordering the Super Vintage. I think it sounds great, (they both do) but I see they didn’t include an ultra low setting. Do you think Origin left that out because the ultra bass sound could be dialed in with the the existing configuration, or is it something that the pedal may not quite be able recreate?
@KristofferGildenlow Жыл бұрын
Not sure why and how they designed the pedals but there's absolutely no lack of low end in either of them. Go for it! :)

Does the bass rig super vintage come with preset pamphlet settings samples ? Great video, BTW!!!! Thank you for the very intuitive information!!!!! 🎸🤟😊
@KristofferGildenlow Жыл бұрын
It has two sample settings: "Neo Soulful" and "Raging Machine". But the pedal is very easy to use and every setting sounds great. With the "Revival Drive" (also Origin Effect), you can get lost in the sound due to the many options per knob but these pedals are very intuitive and easy to dial in.

Great video!! From your experience with the real thing, is the noise floor of the OE SV pedal similar to a vintage Ampeg SVT?
@KristofferGildenlow9 ай бұрын
If you're asking me if the pedal is noice compared to the real amp... no. The OE's are much more quiet.
@carlton13909 ай бұрын
Thanks. I noticed that there seems to always be some hiss from vintage SVTs. Maybe it’s a sign of their authenticity that there’s some hiss also from the Bassrig pedals- good that there’s less. No problem, the sound is incredible!

Great vid...been really considering one of these but, you did say that you cannot disable the cab sim when using the XLR out, right? May not be a big deal at all but kind of curious.
@KristofferGildenlow Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the only tip for improvement I have. Self being able to switch cab sim on and off... and maybe being able to choose between 8x10 and 2x15. But they still sound awesome both of them :)

will this run a power amp on its own?
@KristofferGildenlow2 жыл бұрын
It's a preamp so you can go straight to the power amp or the fx-return but it's not a power amp on its own. So you'll need a power amp to run a cabinet.

Do we actually need amps and cabs anymore?
@KristofferGildenlow Жыл бұрын
I use them less and less to be honest. Especially if I'm using In Ear Monitors. Floor monitors might lack the volume and punch you'd like to have when rocking the stage with a louder band without In Ears so those would be the moments I'd go for an amp... but even then... these pedals can help you shape the sound even more.
