What a beautiful car! Did I hear correctly that this is an original ‘survivor’? Looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The spoke wheel covers just set the whole car off on the right note. And speaking of wheels, the tires are so skinny compared to the tires of today. Thanks Lou & Dennis for a beautiful green spring treat!

Very clean lines. You can see with this example why the mid-size car really took off in sales in the 60s. I had a good friend who owned one. It always amazes me how some original owner cars stayed that way in a era where the new cars kept getting better each year. Some owners just know early that they have a car to keep. In this case you can see why this was a "keeper". Thanks Dennis and Lou.

My parents had a 1967 Fairlane 500 XL station wagon 289 engine my dad bought it new. It wasn't the best built car, the blue paint peeled off within a few years and he had to get it repainted. It needed a valve job at 50,000 miles. The front suspension was supposedly pre-greased for life but started squeaking over time so the fix was to cut into the front sides of the front spring towers and install grease nipples. The auto tranny started slipping over time, the neutral safety switch was acting up so we had to pull up on the shifter to start the engine.

My Dad was looking to buy a new Mustang but then my Mom became pregnant with me. My Dad decided he needed a bigger car and bought a '66 Fairlane 500. It was that beautiful Ford burgundy and had three on the tree. Like the Fairlane in this video, our car came with the 289 C-Code 2bbl rated at 200HP. I remember getting in the Fairlane on hot summer days and sticking to the hot vinyl seat. We didn't have A/C and it could get pretty darn hot with that black interior. Thanks for posting this video and taking me on a trip back to my childhood.

My dad had a '66 Fairlane 500 hardtop in Wimbledon white with an ice blue interior. It had a 289 with a "three on the tree"...he didn't like automatics. Took my driver's license road test in that car back in Feb. of '67. As my mother drove me to the test, she reminded me (for the 100th time) to ask the DMV tester to "buckle up". Seems one of our neighbor's kids had recently lost some points for failing to do so during her test. Well, the DMV person turned out to be a very large man who was barely able to fit in the seat. As he filled out the form on his clip board, I noticed he was actually sitting on his seat belt. I politely reminded him to buckle up...he snarled at me "Listen hot shot, I don't need no smart ass kid telling me what to do, UNDERSTAND? Let's just see if you can pass the damn test without killing us both!" The good news is, I passed...even with the 10 points he deducted for my "poor attitude". Seems it doesn't matter your age or where you're from, dealing with the DMV is always "interesting".

I had a 66 Fairlane 500 4-door with the bench seats. Great car for the drive in and for trips from Kansas City to Lake of the Ozarks. I also had the 2 bbl 289. Plenty of power and 18 mpg city 22 mpg highway. If I were him I would have opted for front disc and dual master cylinder, plus power steering. Air conditioning if I lived in IL where summers are humid. The GT with a 390 that year was an awesome car. Glad to see he kept it garaged in the winters. Mine got salt in Kansas City and rusted out the floorpans, wheel wells and rockers.

I was going to complain why he didn't check the HI-PO option but when your starting a family you don't have time to maintain such a high strung engine. Put oh the difference in value.

Little known facts about this car, the glovebox was made out of cardboard, although the actual door was metal with a lock, hopelessly weak drum brakes, you could easily spin the rear wheels with the 289, famous Ford tartan pattern trunk liner, rear windows all leaked, car had a very narrow stance almost looked tippy toed, very thin rim steering wheel, felt like it was connected to the wheels by a rubber band. Also factory paint from that era was notoriously applied very poorly with noticeable thin spots. Certainly not the best car Ford made, however I believe they were priced accordingly. Always interesting to see these time warp vehicles Lou.

289 is probably my favorite Ford engine. Clean, neat, good fuel economy and with a 4bbl carb, not a bad performer in mid and compact sized cars.

Love the Ford starter solenoid on the firewall. Once the key was on you could start the car with simply using a pliers to jump two posts on that solenoid. Or if you simply wanted to move the engine to top dead center to say, reinstall the distributer, you could quickly jump it until the crank rolled up to position. Ah the good old days.

Goodday Lou, I have come to expect whatever comes from Dennis's stable it's going to be unbelievable & this is unbelievable. Goung by Dennis age , he served his country, lived in the golden age of USA, golden age of muscle cars, he has seen it all. How cool to still own your original car, & the 66 Fairlane is a absolute beautiful traditional hardtop look. Classic line again. " Driving this car lowers your blood pressure" that is a bumper sticker moment. That is how I feel driving my hardtop. Great video, great cruiser. Dennis never fails to excite. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
