Wow Lou I just gave no words here I mean this is a outstanding piece of automotive history. I was just 8 years old when this car was produced. Man that Dennis has some outstanding and unique pieces of automotive history. There is just no way to find another car in this no mileage condition and being brand new yet. That had to be just a awesome time in the ride along. I bet it still smelled new yet. Dennis it is amazing to see your car collection and you never know what is next when it comes to seeing your cars. This car sure was sporty looking and I loved the color of the car too. I just cannot figure how people could give this car a thumbs down. Lou it is just amazing and thanks so much for sharing this!

I hope Lou truly appreciates getting a 4 mile ride in this incredible treasure. They just advanced the odometer a HUGE amount considering how few actual miles it has. Look at it this way... If the car would have had 50,000 miles on it, Lou would have gotten a 280 mile ride in comparison. The owner is a VERY generous man.

Amazing how similar were the appearances of the Fairlane and Galaxie. And when you look at it from the side, you can tell that the “midsize” of ‘66 would easily be considered full size today. What an absolute diamond of a car. 👍

As soon as I saw this Fairlane arriving and I saw the wet asphalt, before we even knew the low mileage I thought...oh no, this is being driven on wet roads. This car is a gem and I hope Dennis lives close by so his car remains pristine underneath. The prevalence of Japanese cars from the early 70's which had far better quality control and paint runs became a thing of the past. Amazing to be awarded judging points because it had a paint run from the factory. This is a beautiful piece of mid 60's auto history and it goes to what you do Lou as a creator of a classic car archive. In Australia where I am, the Fairlane was only available as a Custom or the 'upmarket' 500. No XL's over here! Australia in the mid 60's only had an extremely limited range of models from the US 'Big Three' before the Japanese car invasion really got going and Fairlane was always the upper class Ford and if you had a Fairlane, you had really made it to your station in life. What an excellent example of probably the best '66 Fairlane in the US.

Great post, but I’ll debate you on Japanese car quality in the late ‘60’s and very early ‘70’s. They were great mechanically, almost bulletproof, but their bodies rusted, and interior plastics exuded a foul smell and got brittle and cracked in very little time. But Detroit didn’t learn, got lazy and just made behemoths, while the Japanese got even better. By the early ‘80’s most of the Japanese brands were indeed more robust!

All I’d like to add is Dennis, the cars owner, is one generous soul, taking us all for a ride in his 704 (now 708) Ford. Think I’m kidding? Brother bought a 69 GTO in the late 80’s and spent 2 years making it perfect. A 1976 Nova ran the stop sign slamming into his fender. That’s why cars like this shouldn’t be on the streets. Thx Lou!

Thanks Lou and Dennis. Lou, as you might have noticed today, I've been catching up on your videos that I've missed. Dennis sure has a wonderful car here, and to think of that low mileage. I've owned about one-hundred and twenty cars in my life. I love cars and I've always wanted to try out as many as I could. Most of my cars were crashers. But when I think back on those I've owned, my 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 coupe always comes to mind and was probably my favorite. It had the same powertrain as Dennis' car here. And probably the thing I like best about mine was that 289 with the cruise-o-matic trans. The 289 was velvety smooth, they had good pick-up and pairing it with the cruise-o-matic was a combination satisfying to just about everyone. Another thing was how much I enjoyed the sound of the factory exhaust system. It was a genuine Ford sound true of the 289 cars in the 1960's. Unfortunately, Dennis' car having a the hole in the muffler wasn't making the sound I'm talking about, no insult meant. I just wanted people to know that the sound wasn't authentically representative.

If there was a heart button I would click it. What a fabulous car. A far cry from my friend's in high school that got cut up and a 429 transplanted. ;) I thought the Coronet survivor was a treat. This is better in my opinion. And what a treat it must have been to ride in it even if for only four miles. I'm so glad there are people out there that have the self control to preserve these irreplacable beauties. I do not have that same self control. I would most likely want to drive them as much as possible. Thanks for sharing another great piece from Dennis' collection.

@@loucostabile Thanks Lou. I actually pulled out the 289 engine and transmission in my Fairlane and put in a big block 351cleveland engine and C6 transmission. Believe it or not everything fit in perfectly with no altercations whatsoever. Talk about having twice as much power as before with the 289 engine , I know the 289 engine was just not enough to power this car properly. But I haven't seen a convertible Fairlane in decades now.

Truly breath-taking! It's amazing it's survived all these years without even the slightest transport mishap. Actually owning an automobile like this is quite a burden. The second owner found that out. Even on that short drive, one rock on the windshield or something from a tree hitting the top or hood would leave the owner in tears. It's good Dennis isn't afraid to drive it a bit. Many would drain all the fluids and just roll it in and out of tailors.

A fantastic Ford and how rare? Looks beautiful with the dark red contrasted with the white convertable top. A 390 would have been nice but a 1966 289 has plenty of power and get nice gas mileage as well. I wish I had a 66 Fairlane 500XL in my garage, dream on.

Wow, thanks Dennis & Lou...Awesome preservations!! Heard there also was some running changes in 66 Fords too. My 1966 GALAXIE 500XL, (4 SPD/ Deluxe/ps/Pb/352 /4BBL (boo!), in BURGANDY : also, had kind of funny & far from perfect paint by 1968..... Anyways, always liked the Ford Key, and my *Hazard Flasher Switch was in GLOVE BOX( I did see NOT where DENNIS’s was put.... Just an awesome survivor: though seems a little RISKY with old tires, Brake DRUMS ,Lines/ Fluid, TRANNY, exhaust leaky, TO DRIVE :: ?? I had to really upgrade my (with remembering LOW MILES: ), 66 GALAXIE: tires/Shocks/ special METALLIC ( did not have the Disc) brakes(( which kind of hard to find and fit, with Safety, )) & RADIATOR COOLANT recovery System etc,.....”DENNIS “Mock, EAST HELENA, MT.........

That is amazing for sure!! I wonder why the original owner thought it would be collectable? The 66 Fairlane's were thought to be beautiful when they came out. Especially when compared to the 65's. But few thought they would be collector items. Anyway, rhetorical question, but it is sure collectable now!!

Wow. This one hits my heart. My first car was a ‘67 Fairlane, 2-dr hardtop, the same body style as this. Mine was a hand me down from my Dad, as I got a full scholarship to college, so he gave me the Fairlane when he bought a new ‘70 Ford LTD. Unfortunately, while mine looked great as a hardtop in beautiful Clearwater Aqua, it only had the 200 cid 6-banger (Dad was on an economy kick in ‘67 as he had just put my older brother through college). The car LOOKED sleek and fast, but alas, with the anemic 6-cyl, it wasn’t. But hey, it got me to college and with the low power probably kept me from doing something really stupid behind the wheel! 😂
