*Lol, you cracked me up when you said, some people have stiff footwork like a 70 yr old man with knee problems. Love your videos Thomas as I learn a lot, thanks!*

In Jeet Kune Do, the hands go first, the feet follow up, and the parts involved are the waist and hips and soles. Because it is non-traditional, the soles of the back feet are off the ground, so the released power is relatively large. This is also Jeet Kune Do The key to the foundation.
@ThomasMarxJKD

Hand goes first is one of the hardest things to learn and also to keep, especially when you react to partner opening focus pads. In your every day life, you never go hand than step, you always step and than use your hand, to pick up something or shake someones hand, so there you hurt your progress and in training you try to counter act to it, its a constant back and forth. So how the hell will someone learn it, by doing 5 different martial arts. Its literally impossible. Its hard enough, when you focus on that entirely.

Great video! Do you know maybe when the on guard stance changed from the one you show at 2min30 to a fencer-like (toe to arch)? As far as I am aware the more open stance (2min30) was taught in L.A. school (at least in '67) and is shown in the Fighting Methods book. But I get that the fencer-like was the final one and it makes sense to me. Was it only Ted Wong who taught it?

The stance used to be toe to heel, but as Bruce moved away from trapping he changed it to toe to arch, that is more suitable for the lead hand and foot. I would guess early 70s. Yes it was Ted...

@@ThomasMarxJKD Indeed - trapping was practiced in L.A. school. And trapping being dropped is actually a very good explanation why the stance changed to toe to arch. It makes sense even more! Thanks! I love your videos!!

I have another question. Suppose the enemy attacks with a knife while in the elevator. What should you do? Do you still use side kicks?
@ThomasMarxJKD

You'll be probably dead unless you did knocked him out before his attack.

Sifu, with all my respect to your work and videos, i have a question why is the distance of your striking so short ( except your side kick and finger jab), we all know about advantages of extension strike and wider stance like kumite karate, Master Bruce Lee prefers to use long attacks as well
@ThomasMarxJKD
@ThomasMarxJKD 3 жыл бұрын
I guess in the video you can't see it right. The distance is always one step out of the technique. If you are further away, you kick, if you practice the lead punch, you maintain the distance for that technique.

2 questions do you always have the heel raised? And why do you train what is your motivation? Also love thr videos very imformative my main source of JKD is you, tommy, and Bruce Lees fighting methods books
@ThomasMarxJKD
@ThomasMarxJKD 3 жыл бұрын
In the stance, yes, most of the time the heel is slightly of the ground, before push shuffle it's higher.

Just like Sifu Ted Wong say like that move like a fencer,hit like a Boxer By the way Sifu Thomas i have some question to ask you ,in JKD have any plam strike and elbow technique?
@ThomasMarxJKD
@ThomasMarxJKD 3 жыл бұрын
Elbow yes, but on angels you cant use fists, palm not so much, its better to use fist with right body mechanics or finger jabs. If you are afraid to break your hand, do hand conditioning...

The heel is not always spring loaded, only before you do the push shuffle. Another misconception, people don't know what they are talking about with half knowledge.
