Watched many reviews, no one could make this pedal sound how it should. You guys killed it! Great pedal, killer review!

Where I think this is going to come EXTREMELY handy is as an ‘end of the pedalboard to add some life before we hit the DI and backline’ pedal. Just adding some buffering, saturation and compression before going off to monitoring. Nice one team!😊

I owned a BassRig SV right before lockdown and used it for a few rehearsals. Loved it and thought it sounded tremendous. Then COVID hit and stole all the gigs, and I hate looking at gear I’m not using fully, so I sold it in a fit of despair. Anyway-now I’m back at it and looking at dirt, and this sounds great. The only thing I find somewhat misleading about this demo is that the video shows the DCX going into the SV and there’s some drive and EQ coming from that also. Wondering how much effect that has on what we’re hearing here. Regardless, I know myself well enough to know that life’s too short for for sub-par bass dirt, and this sounds promising just going into the front of an amp for ‘90s music, which is what I’m involved in at the moment.

Now, this pedal can be used by all bassists in all styles! Not like the Bassrig pedals that provide way too much gain to compete with our friends from Finland: nothing like Ampeg or Fender bass amps used in a ‘normal’ way, wich is what most players want. I played an early ‘70’s Ampeg rig for years in the late ‘90’s and later I used a Fender Showman with the same 8x10: they would not overdrive at all! They sounded creamy and warm on higher volume; nothing like the Bassrig pedals at all! But this pedal is different in a good way: it sounds realistic and very musical! I’ll be checking one out soon! 🖖

You know you can turn the gain down on the bassrig pedals right?

You guys should stop whatever you're doing and start making me a B-15 BassRIG pedal!! And one more thing, I have the cali76 limiting pedal, the big one, and saw online that there where some editions that had a blend knob. Is it possible to get the electronic schematic of that??? LOVE your products.

I like it. But two questions: - wouldn't you traditionally have bass > amp > studiopreamp > tape in terms of signal flow? - for live use: is it possible to change the function of the footswitch to switch between EQ and OD mode?
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK Жыл бұрын
Traditionally there are a few different ways. If you were recording an amp: Bass>Amp>Mic>preamp>whatever. If you were recording a DI: BASS>610 Hi-Z INPUT>Whatever Ultimately our joy of taking studio equipment and putting them in pedals comes from the ability to use them in non-traditional ways. Typically musicians didn't put an 1176 before their amp, or after drives... With a pedal they can. Same for this, traditionally you wouldn't put a mic pre before an amp... But now you can try that with our DCX, which has been tailored to the instrument. There isn't a footswitch toggle for EQ/OD mode on these units.

If the voice control is set to "flat" then the adaptive circuitry is basically off, right? No treble roll off? Only works on medium and dark settings?
@OriginEffectsUK

It will only work on medium and dark settings, that is correct.

I was literally about to buy the Bass Rig pedal, then I see this. What I want to know is, does this make the Bass Rig pedals obsolete? Can you achieve the same sound, and then some, with this pedal? The reason I wanted the bass rig pedal was the simplicity, like I would t have to try ti recreate a sound myself, I could just but this replica I'd a bad ass sou ding amp. This pedal to me seems like option paralysis - I don't want to endlessly mess with a pedal, I want to play. But, is this just so much better than the bass rig pedals that it makes them obsolete? In that case I might have to risk option paralysis and go with this one, just cus I don't want to wast $500 when this one is cheaper and do more

The DCXBASS and BASSRIG are fundementally very different pedals. One recreating the sound of classic bass amps, with amp tone-stacks, push-pull output stages and a dual-output, with their cabs via the XLR output. The other is inspired by a mic-pre, with a single-ended valve output stage and a two band EQ that can be set entirely flat. It doesn't have a DI OUT and there is no speaker emulation taking place. If you don't have a DI and are looking for an "amp sound" the BASSRIG pedals are the option you're likely to be looking at. Or if you're looking for the "amp drive sound" of an SVT or Black Panel Fender. If you're looking for something to boost or shape your current amp or pre, then the DCX might be a good fit.

if you are looking for a great ampeg tone, easy to dial in, with a di-> the bassrig will do the trick. i got mine, put it into a fender rumble amp-line in, the band had no clue i wasn‘t playing my svt2 anymore, till i told em. it is a great pedal. the dcx is a different kind of thing.

Is the DCX Bass designed around the UA 610 Studio preamp, but what is so special about the UA 610 studio preamp for bass guitar? which 60's bands used the UA 610 studio preamp for bass guitar?
@OriginEffectsUK
@OriginEffectsUK Жыл бұрын
The UA 610 is often used in studios as a DI input for instruments, often bass. Most would just describe it as a "Very nice DI sound" a lot of that comes from the very musical EQ bands and tube warmth. As with most ideas, it started from knowing one thing that worked well and developed from there. Turning the 610 sound from just a clean DI, to something that would play well and drive well for each instrument when you did want to push it into saturation.

@@OriginEffectsUK So Origin Effects designers modified the UA610 circuit to be able to be used in the saturation region? I'm not sure which 60's and 70's bands used the UA610 I'm curious to know

@@waynegram8907 Plenty of bands recorded records on the original 610 consoles, the circuits this pedal takes its inspiration from. Some notable albums include: "Pet Sounds" - Beach Boys "Harvest" - Neil Young "Van Halen" - Van Halen

@@OriginEffectsUK I thought the Beach Boys used Sound Techniques ZR7064CS Mic pre it has that Z match impedance selector for microphones. It would be nice if Origin Effects made this sound techniques preamp to get those early pink floyd and beach boys sounds.

@@waynegram8907 The Beach Boys recorded at a variety of studios across their projects. Ocean Way I believe still has the 610 console used on sessions with them (and countless others).
