Ork Clans are cultural groupings of Orks rather than actual communities, each embodying a distinct Orkish philosophy. Clans exist outside the organization of tribes - where tribes are inconstant, breaking apart and reforming in war, Clans are constant and enduring.
There are countless tribes and warbands throughout the galaxy, but only six significant Clans. Each has its own distinct character, culture, colours, markings, and ways of waging war. The Clan distinctions are possibly genetic, engineered into the Orks by the Brainboys of the distant past.
A large tribe usually consists of Orks of different Clans. Orks tend to form tribes and warbands with others who follow the same clan, but different groups tend to be lumped together after suffering casualties during a Waaagh!.

Fun fact about the Ork clans: There are six of them (not including the Freebootaz because they are technically an off-shoot of the Bad Moons) in present 40k. Way back in the War of the Beast, there were six Beasts. It's implied that the current clans are the degenerated remnants of the six Beasts' groups. This also implies that the groups are supposed to work as one with six different roles in mind: -Blood Axes are the strategic soldiers and they're likely the remnant of the Orks that were driven off of Ullanor because they're depicted as the one most influenced by humanity -Goffs are the shock troops, the big, violent green tide that the Orks are most known for that makes up the bulk of the Beasts' army -Deathskulls are the scavengers whose loots would feed the Beasts' war effort but mostly to the Bad Moons who are likely supposed to be their direct superiors. -Bad Moons are the mechanics, the engineers and the merchants, they're the heart of the Beasts' war industry who produces all the machines. -Evil Sunz are the cavalry, the ones who strike hard, loud and fast with their vehicles, their big trucks, fast bikes and planes. -Snakebites are the farmers, the ones in charge of the food (Squigs), the ones responsible to feed the army and they fight as proto-BeastSnaggas The clans are already quite a threat on their own but together, they're a nightmare.

I know this hasn't really been a thing in aaaages but Freebooterz used to be any ork who was outcast of the main clans for whatever reason and the pirate lot were just one type out of many. You had your Madboyz, Khorne Stormboyz, the Green Brood, Warp-Heads, Speed Freakz, and so many more.

Funny or sadly enough. In WW1 Canadian’s had an unofficial unwritten Take no Prisoners policy and a Canadian officer was quoted “More men where killed with there hands up with a bayonet “ but after reading Canadian Historian Tim Cooks “At the Sharp End” it seems like that Canadian’s where quite handy with Bayonets. In a night time attack at the Somme. Some units where ordered to go into the German trench using “bayonets only” to cut down on friendly fire. Fun Deathskulls fact: Deathskull WAAAGHs are often feared by their foes for their tactical acumen. This is because a lot of Deathskulls like looting more than fighting, so they try to get the fighting over with as soon as possible to get to the looting.

Da Freebooterz arn't techically a clan, because they are basically outcasts from different clans whom decided to join forces. Thats how Badruck became a Freebooter, he was a former Bad Moon ork, but got kicked out from the clan because he had too much teef, and so he joined the freebooters.

Well, muffling projectiles are, in general, overestimated in media. No gun makes the Hollywood mouse fart. But all it actually does is manages the gases unleashed by launching the projectile so it makes less noise. Thus taking something that sounds like a small cannon to something more akin to a firecracker. I suppose you could make that work for a rocket launcher...somehow...

I recently found out they removed the ork’s only sonic weapon in 9th edition. Back in 8th, with the “psychic awakening: saga of the beast” expansion you could put something called “gork’s roar” on your warboss’s wartrike. It was an exhaust array so loud that it damaged enemies.

@@thetechnomancer2464 As far as I remember - the Tyrannids MAY have only detrimental (or beneficial, depending on what side you're on) effects on the Warp. The Hive Mind that controls all of the space bugs is a consciousnessof pure warp energy, both completely separate and potentially as strong as the Chaos gods and Big E. And seeing how if a Norn Queen dies, it spawns a warp event big enough to temporarily black out the Astronomicon ALONG WITH one of the Hive fleets now adapting to eat beings of the Warp - it could mean that if the Tyrannids win, it will be the beginning of the end of the Warp as we know it. And if the Hive Mind is/becomes a being with an ego, it would be the most powerful entity the galaxy has ever seen since the C'tan Either way - if the Tyrannids win, all sides lose. The only ones that may survive are the Necrons, not being made of organic matter + completely disconnected frok the warp + has the power to literally implode stars like grapes. Although I imagine Trazyn would be mad about losing all those potential pieces for his collection by that point

My all time favorite, apparently canon stories of the Death Skulls is either between the one where an Ork looted a moon and the proceeded to smash it into a planet (now attached with rockets!) And the one where an Ork loota WAAAGH! Pretty much found a Necron tomb world and began to absolutely demolish it without a single care. They broke down and looked everything, and got ahold of a Necron teleporter that they used to summon even more Orks for looting purposes. The pharon didn't wake up, until it was basically way too late, so the other necrons defense protocols were null as they got annihilated. And when he did finally wake up, he bore witness to a whole bunch of Mek Boyz, staring at him from above, wielding all sorts of tools before he was scrapped to pieces without a fight.

Not so actually, Ork teeth decompose over time so eventually they stop being useful and a population can only grow teeth so fast so there's a semi stable ratio of orks to teeth for any given group of orks
