Ornatrix UE: Alembic export

Ornatrix makes getting groom data out of Unreal Editor and into other applications very easy. One way to do that is by using the Alembic file format.

Very nice! Say I have an Xgen groom exported as alembic from Maya and imported to Unreal, can I edit that Xgen groom with the Ornatrix Unreal tools? Also when If I dont want to edit it but just want to inherit root UVs from a scalp surface in Unreal. Can I re-export that same Xgen groom from Unreal but with rootUVs via Ornatrix in Unreal? As you might know, Xgen does not export with rootUVs required for texture mapping in Unreal, I wonder if Ornatrix can help apply those rootUVs from a specific scalp onto the alembic curves. Would be super helpful. Thanks!

You should be able to ground the roots to a scalp to generate the root UVs in Ornatrix for UE. Please try with the demo to be sure.

Do you have to buy Ornatrix for Maya and Ornatrix for Unreal to take an alembic from Unreal to Maya? Or can you just buy it for Unreal then import the alembic into Maya as splines (to edit with Maya default tools eg xgen etc.)

You can use Alembic to transfer files between Maya and Unreal. Ornatrix for Unreal is only needed if you plan on further grooming hair inside UE.
