In this episode I brought up how the case of Natalia Grace inspired the movie's development. When I did, I gave the INCORRECT INFORMATION that Grace "wound up being an adult." This is NOT THE CASE - recent DNA evidence has proven that Natalia Grace was, in fact, a child with dwarfism who was sadly abused by her adoptive parents. The DNA evidence confirming this only became available this week (possibly as late as yesterday) and this Kill Count was edited and uploaded back in mid-December, so we didn't have that information at the time. Still, I shouldn't have stated an allegation as a fact. I apologize for getting it wrong and for potentially further spreading that harmful misinformation. More info here: people.com/natalia-grace-dna-test-seemingly-proves-real-age-8421943

Even better if we’re to assume that First Kill is from Esther’s perspective and Orphan 2009 is from the family’s perspective. Hence why she’s so believable as a child in their eyes
@lkntgkltrndfl

it also works well bc maybe we see her more as an adult now that we're in the know, like how suddenly a picture changes when you point an aspect out. So now that we know Esther is a 30 smtg woman, her "adultness" becomes prominent, her developed facial structure and stretch of her skin become obvious. Barbora Škrlová passed for an unfortunate looking overweight boy pretty well. And about the disguise too, it's in this movie that Esther begins to bind her chest, and in between the two movies could've acquired and learnt to use makeup and lose weight to become scrawnier and smaller and makes sure to avoid her false teeth being seen. so it's just possible with a stretch of the imagination.

I have to correct James on this, for the “real life” case of Natalia Grace, she was not actually a grown woman. She was a child with dwarfism that was abused by her adoptive family. The mother conditioned her into believing she was grown and somehow was able to reage her through the court. They abused her severally, pushing her down stairs, beating her, refusing surgeries, making her walk without shoes. And then sent her to live on her own when she was just 7 years old. Natalia’s birth mother has come forward to prove she was a child. And Natalia has even had a genetics/DNA test to prove she is the age her bio mother said. Natalia’s dentist said she had children’s teeth as well. Natalia has been fighting for justice and to put her adoptive parents behind bars. I recommend the series on Max

Natalia Grace was probably actually a child and not an adult like the adoptive parents claimed. Recently, DNA analysis, dental records and an endocrinologist’s evaluation show she was 9-11 years old. So the adoptive parents had a literal child's age changed from 9 to 22 years old and dumped her in an apartment while they moved to Canada

The plot twist with Tricia was a brilliant move, because not only was it unexpected, not only did it give Lena a worthy foe, but it makes the movies nature as a prequel more interesting. We knew Tricia, Gunner, and Alan die from the premise of the original movie, but learning about Tricia and Gunnet and what theyd done makes their deaths almost cathartic. And Alan dying of a genuine accident after all is said and done feels appropriately tragic for the sole Allbright who didn't do anything wrong. Ultimately you wind up being okay with Lena getting away with it all scot free because you know she gets hers two years later as justice for people like the detective or Anna, and Tricia and Gunner are so awful even compared to Lena its justice for them to lose to our favorite little serial killer

I really appreciate the fact that they realized they couldn't pull off the tense, slow-burn, considered twist in the first movie, so just beelined it completely in the other direction and made the most psychotic, out-of-left-field sequel imaginable. Me and my best friend went and saw it at the cinema and we were the only two people there, and we were howling throughout the whole thing. One of the best cinema experiences of my life. My only complaint would be that this felt much more like the premise for a mini-series rather than a movie- there's so much potential material for two serial killers pretending to be a family that it almost feels wasted in a 100 minute movie.

James, you need to do Brandon Lee’s “The Crow” I know it’s not exactly a horror film it’s more of a thriller but still an excellent film with excellent kills.

I don't think the de-aging was as successful as the team hoped it would be, but I feel like a majority of this film was more impressive than the first one. Isabelle Furhman and Julia Stiles are outstanding in it.

5:15 when I saw this scene I, like the many other people there, couldn’t help but laugh at the shot of Tallinn, since it showed shots of mountains (we don’t have mountains in Estonia) wish they instead had a more accurate representation of Tallinn in the movie

I'm glad you added the tid bit about how they're made at the beginning! I've told so many friends to check out your channel for that main reason, plus some are self-described "weenies" how can't sit through even pretty tame horror but want to know about the movies/special effects in them. Great vid and great channel! :D

Regarding that real life event, wasn't it recently confirmed that the child was a child and was found to have dwarfism. I believe the parents are arrested for what they did to the child.

18:37 although, from my research, i did learnt something pretty interesting: Since fencing stemmed from war and duels of death, it is natural for people to assume there is danger involved. However, in the 121 years of modern Olympic-style fencing, there have only been eight instances of death, the most notable of which was Soviet fencer Vladimir Viktorovich Smirnov.

Just a point of correction. The Natalia Grace case referenced here has been the subject of a 2023 documentary that proved that she was in fact a child at the time of her adoption.

I'm impress how they relied on handmade effects, makeup, body doubles and amazing time with their scenes here then on CGI. Some filmmakers have objected to using CGI for its take away something in the production. Also it takes me back to how filmmaking started, where you use your creativity more to created movies.

A young girl you mention at 6:00 is Natalia Grace, and she was actually proven to be a child. She was abused for years by her adoptive parents and put through hell, so spreading false information that can be super dangerous.

though probably a coincidence, the movie seems to parallel the case of nicholas barclay. like esther, he went missing and a few years later, was replaced by a con artist, Frédéric Bourdin, who was feigning as the child. like leena, bourdin was caught, but a theory remains that his older brother who was a heavy drug user, or someone else in the family, either intentionally or unwittingly killed nicholas, then accepted bourdin as him to allay suspicions. very eerie if unintentional.
