Two signals,x₁(t) and x₂(t) are said to be orthogonal if: ∫x₁*(t).x₂(t)dt=0 ,[-∞ to +∞]; Where, x₁*(t) = complex conjugate of x₁(t).

Im confused about rule 1. In the instructions the two functions need different frequencies but in the example you compare their phase angle. Please clarify.

actually, he compared both. n and m are part of frequencies . and n != m so he is comparing frequencies.

its a little tedious and cmputational, but just use some trig identities and you can get that result. When you learn about fourier stuff. this is probably one of the first things you do, so you should be able to find this online.

The first property of Orthogonal sig is creating some confusion. What will happen if the signals are sin (nwt+phi1) and cos(mwt+phi2)? will it be orthogonal or not?

T is the time period of the product signal y(t)=x1(t) × x2(t)

@@saheliroychowdhury3253 Thanks a lot for the response. I am actually just beginning in this field, so this created another query. In this case, how to find the value of 'T' ? In the previous lectures, we were taught to find the time period of composite signals, but the individual components were being added in that case, i.e, y(t) = x1(t) + x2(t). But how to find fundamental time period where y(t) is the product of the individual component signals ? Would be grateful if you can explain or redirect me to some resources where I can learn the same. Thank you. :-)

If you've say x1(t)=sin 2t and x2(t)=sin 5t or any random sine or cosine function, you can always express x1(t)×x2(t) as summation. You've trigonometric formulae to do the same. I'm giving you the link of those formula.

With these formulae you express y(t) as summation of two signals and then find their respective time periods and do LCM to get time period of y(t).

@@saheliroychowdhury3253 Thank you so much. Yes, I could get it for sinusoidal signals. Now, suppose x1(t) is a periodic signal with a triangular waveform with a time period of 4 seconds (just assume...), and x2(t) is a sine function with the normal time period of 2*pi, then y(t) = x1(t) * x2(t). So, in this case also, will the required time period of the composite signal still be the LCM of the constituent time signals ??? (The reason I ask this is because, in this case, we cannot use the trigonometric formula to decompose the product into summation of two or more terms).
