Hey! You are doing amazing work. I have a bit of a situation at hand atm; I am on a Tier 2 visa working with a Bristol based Tech company, whilst my wife is an MS ENT doing her SRship with the same hospital. We are confused what pathway to choose, 1.MRCS -> GMC-> Applying directly for NHS registrar jobs (or SHO? Is it possible to get registrarship directly?) 2. Mch in Otorhinolaryngology at Edge hill and completing MRCS (I am hoping for her to atleast get the Part A done before the course starts) concurrently. Also, can the process of reaching the ST-7/8 (Consultant) be expedited? Or mandatory 5-6 Years of surgical medical training needs to be done before writing the FRCS exam? Thanks a ton for all the information 😊

Not necessarily.. but they do expect one to have done a certain number of hemi-replacement and DHS fixation.. !!

Finally i find right place for myself. 👏🏽👏🏽 I’m in the last year of my surgery residency. And i started to work for OET. İ want to work in UK as soon as possible.. I’m from Turkey (İstanbul) As I understand it, i can be a fellow (junior/senior) at first place. On your opinion What would be the most comfortable way for me to get the equivalence of specilty registar? For example if i can pass FRCS can i be a locum consultant in few years ? Or is it irrevelant ? should i definitely pass the mrcs exam ? İ dont want to be trainie again. Becouse i trust my eduction in T&O.. I have few more questions I would be very grateful if you could answer my questions and reach you privately. 👏🏽👏🏽

Hi Akgun, I perhaps understand where you are coming from as I trained outside of UK too. However, I would suggest that you take some time to understand how the system works for things like PLAB, MRCS and FRCS and you will realise that it is not possible to force the system or bend it to your liking easily. They have obviously benefit from having been in the system since right from the start but the system is quite fair and transparent for most parts. Obviously some branches are much harder to get into than others

But I'm confused about the fact that I should pursue Ms ortho followed by specialization in sports injury OR I should pursue sports medicine itself? I Want to travel to places with the teams too!.... @@drpradeepyadav110 you had to understand the term "valid" - the courses are different and they are all relatively new. What matters really is what you make of these courses - the learning, skills, research etc that you establish !!

Hi sirs I have completed my MBBS. When should i give MRCS part 1? Just after/along with my pg entrance exam or during residency? I want to do fellowship in arthroplasty and arthroscopy from UK or any other place abroad and then settle in India. How should i proceed? Can i directly do fellowship in arthroplasty after clearing MRCP? Is there arthroplasty and arthroscopy training in this Mch course? What would be a better route for me - Fellowship in plasty or Mch?

Yes there's a full requirements set along with an interview to get into training. MRCS is merely one of those requirements!!

The general work timings are 7 45 - 5. On call days and duties are separate and vary from hospital to hospital on their structuring and timing. This applies to all years in general

No we aren't in training, we've pursued alternate paths for ourselves after having explored the training pathway !

Hi Tulika, MRCS is one of the eligibility criteria to apply for training, something we've explored in our other video on "What to do you have passed the MRCS"..

According to my knowledge, prerequisites of FRCS (T&O) are 7 years of experience in orthopaedics and 3 surgeons signing off for you. Is certain number of surgeries are required for this as well? Can someone in non training job apply for FRCS ?

It's at least 6 years of experience and 3 surgeons. The number of surgeries is currently not a requirement but there are rumors that it might soon be. However, as I said, they are rumors !! Well spotted - we've probably mis-spoke there and given off a wrong impression. Thank you for pointing that out !!

Hi arjav. Well spotted, but to clarify, the number of surgeries are not a prerequisite to sit the FRCS but they are certainly a requirement to get CCT - certificate of completion of training at the end of your training window. If you don't have those numbers, your training period will be extended. Passing the FRCS is another prerequisite to get CCT. That is what the message is.

Hello, all. Thanks all for this nice presentation. I have completed my D-Ortho and MRCS. Now, if i shift to UK will i get training post in ST3 (or working in SHO for 1 year), or I will join the non training pathway from the beginning? If, non training pathway can i start it in any post i am holding there? Is it tough to get training post? please give me a clear guideline brother. and do i need 2 year core training? or direct 6 years Orthopedics training from ST3-ST8? Thanks again.
