When syro malabar Church came under the umbrella of Roman Catholic Church , the conditions imposed on it were that they could evangilise only in Kerala. If any priest/ Nuns wanted to do missionary work, they had to join the Latin rite congregation. Roman Catholic Church comprises 23 autonomous churches. The biggest is Latin rite (95%), the second is Syro Malabar church, Malankara church, and so on. The smallest is the Catholic church of Ethiopia, with only 5000 members. After the 2nd Vatican council, the restrictions imposed on syro malabar Church were removed. They could evangilise anywhere on earth. We now have 35 dioceses including 4 in foreign countries. When syro malabar Church was restricted to kerala only, each diocese followed whatever method they wished to follow, but the rubrics, issued by Synod of Bishops, for the Holy Mass had to be followed and the same was adhered to meticulously. The beauty of Latin rite is the UNIFORMITY of the Holy Mass. If one went to Vietnam, even if one doesn't understand Vietnamese, one could follow the Holy Mass. However, that is not the case with Syro Malabar church. So others, who are not Malayalee, would get lost when they attend Holy Mass in a different place. To address this issue, the synod of Bishops meditated, and a consensus was arrived. The cardinal then issued the directive for the synodal Mass. However, some 450 priests of Ernakulam Angamaly diocese rebelled and refused to accept for some vested interest. Though the priest takes a VOW of Obedience, in this case, they refused to obey and instigated the laity too. There are 9000+ priest in syro malabar church, and these 450 priest expects other 8500 priests and Bishops to follow their directive ! They refused to obey the Pope's emissary and threw bottles at the cathedral. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT GETTING APPROVAL OF SYNOD OF BISHOPS ? We all know St. PAUL got revelation directly from Jesus. Yet we find in Galatians 2:1-2, after 14 years of preaching ,God revealed to Paul , to go and get approval from the leaders ( present day Synod of Bishops) ! Paul immediately went as he didn't want his work to be a failure. It clearly means, all priest are to get approval from the Bishops. *Fourteen years later I went back to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. I went because God revealed to me that I should go. In a private meeting with the leaders I explained the gospel message that I preach to the Gentiles. I did not want my work in the past or in the present to be a failure.* Galatians 2:1‭-‬2

Church can manage without bishops. Look at the religious congregations and it is a good substitution. Bishops make rules only to protect themselves and to suppress the priests and people. The system should change.
