in 1993 when i graduated high school i left the bayous of south Louisiana to go to the big city of New Orleans. I met the love of my life at 19 as I was working a club door on Bourbon St. He was your typical 90s guy , he was dying of AIDS. I packed up and moved to NYC to care for him till he died. Im now 50 and im one of those bitches that fought for OUR rights. I take pride in it and this song reminds me of of he and our struggle in the big apple. We were just kids trying to get by the best we knew how. He has been gone for 30 yrs almost and i wish he was still here to know how i never stopped loving him after he left. Im still a young spirited dude from the bayous of new orleans. I eat a LOT of mushrooms and jam out to Orville Peck. And Jesse Vincent if your out there and you can here me I will always love you to the moon and back. And you too Orville Peck!

IMO this guy has single handily saved country. He brings old country symbolism tropes and makes them refreshed, not just with his lyrics and singing style, but his dancing. How many times in this song did he Just repeat “truck, whiskey, church, small town etc” like all modern country singers who are just artistically sterile? His style feels old yet new. New country just sounds the same and uses the exact same metaphors. Over and over and over again.
