Congrats Misty, you survived the Japanese transit system. Had to laugh when you mentioned that a local ran away when you asked for directions. Most are too embarrassed to speak English to foreigners.

Hi Sean! Yes I plan to in the future. This year is my mom's 75th bday and she wanted to go. She's from Seoul but we wanted to do something different like Jeju Island or Busan. Nice variety of foods and places! So the candy coated fruit is tanghulu. It's actually a Chinese treat, but I've only had it in Japan. Cannot find in Hawaii! Tsukiya is sort of a beef bowl competitor with Yoshinoya the way Ippudo is to Ichiran in ramen.
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Yes I think they competed with the first gyudon place we went to. The tanghulu is also super popular in Korea. Always saw it and wanted to try. I like it except for the sugar getting stuck to your teeth. I'd eat it again.

Hi Misty , Wow., Osaka , what an action packed 6 days ! My wifey said when we seen the MiPig Cafe , awe we have to go there ! Glad you gave details of the rail system about catching multiple trains to different places and you got there. Vending machines everywhere, I guess they like them .. The ramen you had and liked it far better then Hawaii speaks volumes. Homework/Research is the key with any holiday to get the most of it , then book, book , book. Oh , your accommodation, when you said $270 was that per night or for the whole 5 nights ? Cheers Rod 🤙
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Aloha Rod! That was the price of the hotel for the whole stay converted into US dollars! Yes you're right definitely need to plan ahead and reserve otherwise the last minute folk will not get in. Seems like everything is reservation based in Japan and rare walk ins. The Pokémon Cafe and Mipig was that way. Use Klook to get a Kansai pass for the trains. You can use it on any train except JR trains. Yes they love vending machines but sometimes it did work out in our favor when we were walking in the middle of nowhere and thirsty. It was convenient and not like the vending machines in the US that rip you off. The price seems comparable to a store.

@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I don't use any references or books. I just look at Google Maps and see what's around and have a list of places I'm interested in. Great video once again Misty! Everything is so inexpensive with the current exchange rate. Just subtract a third from the yen amount. Question: Did you check out prices of consumer electronics while there? Last time we were in Osaka in 2018, we went to the Aeon Mall and I surprised to find camera prices higher than what we could pay in Honolulu.

Aloha Mark! I did not check out any electronic stores. I didn't have much time, and usually I don't buy electronics from other countries in case something is wrong with it later on. Sour Strawberries? Do you have strawberry stands in Hawaii? Fresh picked from the farm is best, and you want to make sure the red goes all the way up into the cap. If you go to a chain store the berries are picked for longevity on the shelf, that means they aren't ripe. If they used ripe, they would be rotten before you got them home. Hope that information helps. I could tell the berries you had in Japan were premium.
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
We don't grow strawberries here. There's rarely any produce that comes from Hawaii other than micro lettuce, cilantro, eggplants, long beans and the typical pineapples and bananas. All our strawberries are from the grocery store and are usually from Driscoll's. I find them not that sweet even when fully red.
@bighatstephens
