Joey please don't listen to the people thinking the filters an eye sore! Half of the beauty of aquariums is the "tech"! I love to see the filter like you got it!! So you can see what's going on 🙌🏼 And also thank you for the great content as always !
@logand91903 жыл бұрын
I agree learning the tech is part of the fun. I think my whole goal tho is to make it as natural and beautiful as possible and seeing equipment just destroys that for me.
@PurpleDrac Жыл бұрын
it's only an eyesore if it's "not hidden." Therefore it's not an eyesore. Better to be able to see it and see what's going on with it than not don't cha think. Plus you're able to monitor it better versus covering it now the only way to check is by uncovering it versus coming down turning the aquarium light on and being able to see it right away (hands free) you spot something you can take care of it right there versus covering it lights on remove, place, declutter, replace, recover the filter finish. versus lights on declutter finish. You don't have to put anything back it's all right there 😎

Being in the hobby for well over 30 years, the one thing that I've learnt about filtration is that you can't have enough.... The more (and bigger) fish you have, the more filtration you'll need!

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but I like seeing the filter, I like seeing what's going on in a system. Of course having an aquarium with no obvious visible equipment is also very beautiful but I would argue that visible equipment can add to the aesthetic in a similar way that the 'industrial' look has become fashionable in interior decoration. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as always! Great work Joey, the Oscar tank does look amazing!

Question for you Joey. You've done numerous videos on PVC overflows before. But even though they work and I've been using them for years thanks to your videos; they're really ugly. I have two 125 gallon aquariums for my oscar fish which are a mated pair at about 9 inches right now oh, and the second one is for my Red Devil who has for the time being by himself until I find him a mate. I also have two 40 gallon breeder tanks one that has a mated pair of koi angelfish that are currently swimming around with a bunch of fry right now, so I have their some turned off right now and have them running on sponge filters to protect the fry. The other is a community tank. Then there's my quarantine Tower that has three 10 gallon tanks. All of my tanks are running on DIY sump filtration 1 sump for each individual tank except for the tower which is running one sump for all three. Each of the pumps set to turn over the tank volume five times per hour. However; I've just never been able to get over just how ugly the PVC overflows are. All of my tanks were bought from PetSmart and so they are all tempered glass that I cannot drill except for the 10 gallons which there's really no point drilling a 10 Would love to see a video on these in line overflow valves that I keep hearing about instead of this Twist of tubing that I have outside of each of my tanks. I guess my other alternative is to do what you've done here as personally I don't think it's that bad looking it's just that to do so would mean getting new pumps as the ones that I have are quite large and wouldn't be feasible to put inside of the tank. Being a beginner I overestimated the size of the pumps that I would need and so only have them running at 30 up to 45% and even that is turning my tanks over five times an hour. Imagine if I went full-bore. I originally wanted all of the tanks hooked up together and was going to build a sump with enough capacity but it probably could have supported a small pond. But later decided after having already purchased them, that I wanted each tank to have its own individual filtration in case of any disease Breakout. But the bumps that are running my big tanks are turning over 1720 gallons per hour if I had them at 100% so they are far too large. They run great, but they're too large to do that in tank system that you just built. Which I think is genius because it solves any issues with overflowing and balancing period due I make the sacrifice and buy smaller pumps and just put these ones away or what do you think would be best?
