I really appreciated the graphs. Most reviews won't show how bad the drivers are off axis. This was awesome. Good job.

I've noticed that discrepancy in the -3db point with my outdoor and in ceiling speakers as well, it's like 20-30hz off. I wonder how they are testing, are they mounted in a wall, is it anechoic, etc.
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
Maybe they do -6dB like some other companies do? Not sure.

The timing on this video couldn't be any more perfect, I'm renovating my condo I was thinking about adding speakers to the ceiling. Thanks for the info.

Are Polyurethane tweeters any good? I’m looking at angled in ceiling speakers and found the Sonance MAG6R from BestBuy. They use Polyurethane tweeters and glass fiber woofers. I am debating getting these or the Dayton ME650C which use silk dome tweeters and Kevlar woofers. My front 3 are Elac Debut 2.0s which use similar materials to the daytons.

Great explanation of the on axis and off axis response when it comes to room EQ.

I'm glad it was helpful. A bit more of a simplified explanation, but generally good advice I think.

@@joentell for sure, off axis performance is just as important to get right as on axis. I was really shocked how much of a comb filter effect there was on axis for one of the speakers.

no mention of the box case?

It is nice to have choices that might fit various situations, good review. Too bad they don't have an option with a back box where you can get more predictable bass response and minimize resonances. I would assume the TS parameters for these are set for an infinite baffle setup since the volume behind the speaker is variable and unknown.

Hi, Thank you for your videos, very helpful! I have a question. I was going to buy Monitor gold 100 or something similar. But they are too expensive. What if I just replace woofer and units to scan-speak units. Will it make the speaker high quality sounds?
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
I would just prefer to buy a speaker that sounds the way I would want it to within my budget

Great video, doing stuff most aren't. I think Amir has measured one/two in wall speakers but it was very much a work in progress from what I remember. Would be interesting to see how more compare since I see a lot of people recommending the Polk RC80i so it would be interesting to see how that compares. I'd imagine that these and the Micca, Dayton or Monoprice stuff would fair similarly.

So with the speakers i get bass or i need a sub.
@MOAB-UT2 жыл бұрын
You need a sub for sure. Makes a big difference.

Hmm... Height speakers could use some bass too no?
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
I always suggest that speakers be able to be flat down to 80hz minimum when being crossed over with a sub
@mladia3 жыл бұрын
@@joentell I know but I am saying no downside to having a bookshelf be your height speaker and having it crossed as low as 80.
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
I use SVS Prime Elevations as heights which could be considered small bookshelf speakers. There are pros and cons to each design. A well-designed in-ceiling or in-wall speaker acts like an infinite baffle, which also has advantages when designed properly. When the sound from a bookshelf speaker wraps around the back of the box and reflects off of the wall and combines with the original source sound, there can be a combination of constructive and destructive waves. The closer the baffle is to the wall, the lower the frequency with which that interaction occurs. In the case of an in-wall or in-ceiling speaker, the wall is the baffle.

This was not a shootout. It was general speaker tips. He did not even play a single speaker. FAIL.

Dude I don’t like making harsh comments, but anyone looking at ceiling speakers are not going to understand this video. Only people that already know about speakers will and they probably don’t need any and already know all about it. Can you dumb it down a bit?
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback. You're probably right. Can you tell me which parts you thought were hard to understand for beginners? It's one of those things when you get so into something, it's easy to forget what people don't know. I need help from folks like you who are willing to remind me. 🙏
@toddroy95583 жыл бұрын
@@joentell The video is fine, if your aim is to talk to people who really know there stuff. But your title is about helping someone to choose a ceiling speaker, so it’s sounds like it’s aimed at ones who don’t know much. So when talking, use language that people understand, and explain more simply. You can use illustrations to explain. Youthman does an excellent job explaining it very simply. Don’t mean to compare, because I like both of you, I really enjoy your show. Teaching is hard. Always Consider your audience before making a video. Anyway, thank you for your work, very helpful. P.S. can you review the mono price thx 465t, there are no reviews of it out there.
