There are a lot of misconceptions about there about ostomy bags. I know I believed some of them. Believing those mistruths caused me to delay a much needed surgery. I wanted to bust these myths, and share about how my ostomy helps me live a happy and full life!

You are an amazing young woman and spokesperson for all things ostomy. My friend, who is at least 3x your age and was diagnosed with late stage colon cancer, had to have an colostomy this past fall.. I sent her a link to your channel, and she loves it and finds you refreshing and life affirming! Keep it going on!

Hi Amber! Thanks for your great ostomy videos! I had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago due to spread rectal cancer. I have a temporary loop ileostomy, but I am not sure if I want to have my stoma reversed because my surgeon said that they were planning on keeping a part of my rectum, but during surgery they saw that because of the way that the cancer grew they had to remove the whole rectum. So when they reverse the stoma I WILL have big problems with my poop and will probably have more or less constant cravings to go to the toilet. I had problems a little bit like that before surgery because of the tumour, and now I really enjoy being able to go places and go on walks without pooping myself 😀. Maybe I'll simply keep the stoma 😀 Peace and Love ❤

Keep the stoma, it's beautiful, it sucks sometimes but that's part of life. Makes us stronger. I have 2 ostomy bags. I've had them for 7 years. I had stage 3 testicular cancer at 25. My bladder was totally destroyed from the tumor, the colostomy bag was just supposed to be temporarily but the abdominal fistula that I developed after surgery would not go away after 10 surgeries. And at one point I was at three ostomy bags. I made the hard decision of having a permanent colostomy bag which I honestly don't regret at all. It's may be into a stronger person.

I have to make that decision. I had anal cancer and with radiation and chemo the tumour is gone. It caused a lot of damage and I now have major bowel problems. Think an osteomy bag would be easier 🙏 Hard decision

Very helpful. Am going through the phase right now (3 weeks in) where I'm very paranoid about smells. Thinking it will get better when I evolve into a better bag and lose some of the post-surgery gas and bloat.

Amber I want so much to change to Coloplast. You make it look so easy. The blue little wafer and little snap on but I can't snap while it's on me can you send me the numbers to your Coloplast wafer and bag. I've cried got so frustrated tired of Hollister. How can you get them to me. I am 68 and disabled but I don't want to give up.

How do you conceal it mine is always ballooning
@mica412
@mica412 4 жыл бұрын
If it's ballooning with air then what you need is a pouch with an inbuilt charchol filter.

Hey Jaquellyne & Janet, I've been analyticalal when it comes to life's bumps in the road. So when I became an ostomate (it was kind of a last minute deal) I try to make my situations as comfortable as I can. Ballooning is mostly caused by gassy foods, just limit or stay away from it, (sorry everyone, I can't say no to my roasted garlic!). I will put my hand on the bag at night and burp it if I need to. I wear my bag horizontal because I have an ostomy wrap that accommodates this and allows me my normal activities. It's easier being a back sleeper having the bag hang off my side. Before I go to sleep, I slightly lift the flange and pull the bag gently to allow some air in to give room for output. I use the liquid lubricant / deodorizer towards the top of flange and middle of bag for pancaking not to occur and to keep the output moving away from the stoma. It's all observations that can be adjusted and corrected. Oh! and try an Ensure meal replacement drink with a meal to help gain weight. And if it's TOO big of a bump, I give it up to God with prayer! God bless!

i've been afraid to tuck my shirt in after having ileostomy I think it would interfere with output do you think it's ok to tuck in a shirt and wear a belt?
@donaldwillinger4280

Yes if you wear the belt above the ostomy.

@@buddylee8535 You shouldn't have any problems at all. My original colostomy was below the best and when it blew apart, the new one is on my stomach. Thus the warning. Be well.

I really wish I believed the last tip, but I just don't see anyone being able to be with me with this. How can you have sex with it? It is in the way and not like you can take it off to have the sex....and no man wants to be with someone who can't have sex.
