When I married my 20 year old Filipina sweetheart I woke up the next morning and realized she didn't know how to cook American food. I thought I was going to starve the next few years. The first night she fixed me pork adobo. It was so good I wanted it the next night also. Never tasted anything quite like that before. By the end of the first month she had me eating most everything she cooked. There are still a few dishes that I prefer to skip, even after 48 years together now. Our grandkids have learned to enjoy the food their lola taught their parents when they were growing up. Another generation of those who love Pinoy food.

Mama Lulu really reminds me of my own late aunt; warm, funny, chatty and huggable. There was never a time we visited her without our tummies stuffed with her food, plus she’d packed more for us to bring home. In between too, we be in stitches listening to her old stories of our family. Cheers from Singapore.💐

In early 1900s Spanish was the most widely used language in the capital region and I think Manila is one of the top cities in the world with a lot of Spanish speakers . It was changed when Americans came and also Spanish was also part of the study in school but later it was being removed . That is the reason why only less Filipinos can speak Spanish but still there are words in Spanish live up to this day .

My opinion but i think is best to create a standard adobo, yes there is a lot of variety but and we should respect it all equally, but we need to show the world what a standard filipino adobo looks like so many foreigners can make it . It is not saying that there is an original adobo no of course not we just need to let them see what a common adobo looks like

Today is the second time I am making Mama Lulu’s chicken adobo. Today I add chicken livers, gizzards, and hearts. I cannot wait to eat this. I was surprise to learn that more and more the words are the same with Bahasa Indonesia: sama-sama, cuka, asin, bawang. Thank you Mama Lulu and Oliver. Next time we’ll try Apple’s version!

I love this. I love seeing their different versions of cooking, and Mama Lulu is always so proud to see her kids making food. You know she taught them well.

My friend who happened to work as my House Girl when I lived in the Philippines would make this but she added carrot, potato, and leeks. It’s been 30 years and I still crave her Adobo.

dry adobo is one of my favorites when it was made by my mom... it looks like a version of filipino food called "Humba"

The Humba makes more sense. Its the less talked about dish. Adobobo is over rated and ridiculous. No one even eats it before the media kept promoting this sad dish as definitive of Filipino food culture. I discovered Humba in the city of Dumaguete and I initially thought it was one of the 764 variants of the Adobobo.

@@eduardochavacano the looks were similar but the ingredients and the taste are different. Humba has a lil bit of sweetness bcoz of the pineapple juice,. While adobo have strong flavor and a bit salty.

I appreciate that they're still speaking in normal Filipino. By normal, I mean, the typical conversation you usually hear everyday. Ang iba naman medyo slang na. Hehe I just think other Filipinos that live abroad prefer to use English or Filipino with an American accent. 😅
