I just wanted to chime in on the water-cooled cards with low specs. Water-cooled and AIO cards are one of your best options for small formfactor PCs. A lot of times, they make the main cooler shorter or thinner, giving your more case room, and then having a separate radiator gives you the option to place your cooling where it's most effective, rather than in some weird corner of the case that'll get hot.
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
Hmm the founders PCB is overkill yet the smallest. So that argument is invalid. Its just cheaping out.
@MrlspPrt2 жыл бұрын
I found an Strix LC (not the OC version) costing a little more than a FTW3 Ultra here in México, the LC costs $1749.95 USD, while the FTW3 Ultra costs 1709.45 USD. Of course it's more expensive, but prices here always are 16% (at least) more expensive than in USA (only the two cheaptest TUF cards are cheaper). If the LC can be overclocked to the LC OC frequency, then I would buy it without a doubt, if not then the FTW3 looks good enough for me.
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
You can overclock way beyond that especially because its watercooled.

@@OTechnology well... fees, scalping and a weak economy :( By the way, I'm very rusty in the current overclocking world, my last desktop was a Q6600 with a GTX 280 from 2008, since 2014 I used Asus laptops (a G750jx and a G752vs), so I don't understand very well the OC potential by today standards. I have a (probably dumb) question: is the overclock reflected in the boost or just in the base clock speed?
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
@@MrlspPrt The real clockspeed is way higher than the boost and base speeds in the specification. They are literally useless specification, the real clockspeed are limited only by the power and temperature that the GPU is running at. So more power and cooler equals more clockspeed directly. If you overclock you are adding an offset to this real clockspeed the card is running at stock speeds, and the only way to meaningfully increase it is if you can give the GPU more power from a higher power limit and also keeping it cool.

The GPU MEM TEMP that users want to know most
@Miskatonik2 жыл бұрын
Very late to the game, when in 6 months noise will build up around the RTX 4K launch...I have the EVGA FTW Ultra Hybrid and am pretty happy with it. However, the big hole in your analysis is the Memory Junction Temp, which in this gen is far more important than GPU temp. There are some models that are completely unable to keep the GDDR6X temps under safe limits. This is way more important than a few Mhz more or less due to GPU temperature, we are talking about serious risk of component degradation when those memories go above 100C, which is not uncommon at all in many models.
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
That is true, however unfortunately there is absolutely not enough information about memory temps from reviewers so I can't do anything about that. Also most of the time it can be fixed with just better thermal pads.
@N0N01112 жыл бұрын
@@OTechnology A good source could be crypto mining guides GPU settings websites. They go pretty in-depth for temps speeds and performance. Gamers can mine does data back lol.

@raghavtripathi5642 жыл бұрын
@@OTechnology This is not true Thermal pad mod is a gamble, hit or miss and most of the time it wont bring the temps down by huge margin. Talking from experience with 3080Ti FE. wasted lot of money in pads (and yes I researched a lot) my temps did not improve. So went all in and put a Corsair water block, mem temps hardly breach 55 deg c now while heavy gaming.
@Miskatonik2 жыл бұрын
@@OTechnology I know, just saying that for me that's #1 criteria, I looked about mem junction temps in reddit forums, seems that MSI is pretty good in that regard despite their garbage VRM. My FTW3 Hybrid is great for GPU temps, but memory temps are awful. Another reason to undervolt, specially since it works so well in this generation and OC is such a waste of power and very expensive, at least at current power prices in Europe. So I actually never use my card at full 450W power, if I had to buy again, I wouldn't care about 2 vs 3 PCIe connectors and power limits, I would buy the cheapest one with a decent cooler and better memory temps. I fear that with RTX 4K super high power limits it will be once again the same. Anyway, thanks for your videos, they are fantastic! 👍👍

The fastest card on this list is irrelevant when the Auros Master and Extreme have a mini screen that can show gifs. Everyone knows that's the most important part. Not just more RGB, but moving pictures! Seriously though, the Auros Master and Extreme are so large that once you bypass the power limits, they've got the best cooling outside of water. Master should be in S tier beside Extreme imo as they are essentially the same card after you bypass a couple things.

@@OTechnology Well, it's a beautiful card (subjective opinion) gigantic and imposing. The side LCD is a nice addition - it does function in my case (heard that some users have issues with it due to faulty gigabyte software) The only real issue I found was that it stays pretty hot by default when using the Performance BIOS switch - the memory stays "ok" at around 86c but the GPU goes up until 79-80c which is pretty contradictory compared to the immense cooler. I had to undervolt it to get to stabilize the GPU at around 71c in full load The fans can be heard but nothing that I would call game breaking especially since 3080 Ti's require serious case cooling thus the case fans may actually cover the sound of the video card (personally I own a Cooler Master H500M which makes some real db when gaming) Nevertheless a nice video card model

What about actual gaming performance? You know, the only thing that actually matters! Who cares if one card uses 2x the power of another if it only translates to 2% performance increase?
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
If that's all you care about then this video is useless yes. This video is more about telling people to get a card with better hardware especially if comparing similar prices.

Very good and thorough review. As mentioned, I think most of the people who view this video would be more interested in the memory temps, but it's hard to come by and probably version dependent, even within the same model. I would also like to point out one more thing, which again is hard to quantify, but critical: AIO cards are prone to pump noise. For example I heard reports of FTW3 (EVGA) and Seahawk (MSI) loud pumps, and this is idle noise, whereas air cooled cards with fan-stop are practically silent. These radiators can probably only fit on large high-end cases as well.
@TheCgOrion2 жыл бұрын
For someone that might just up the power limits, and not do any shunt modding or things that extreme, how much of a performance difference are we talking about across the range? Also, on the other end of the spectrum, is there a noticeable decrease in fan noise when you move to the mid or upper range cards, using their stock settings? During Pascal generation, I had an Asus Strix 1080 that was very quiet and wonderful to use, and then I bought a lower tier 1080 Ti, that using any of its performance over the 1080 basically made the cooler noisy as hell. It was so bad I put an aftermarket cooler on it, which made it basically silent, and it runs pretty much locked at 2Ghz, so the noise alone would be a big enough reason for me to go with a higher end card.

sorry for late reply if you have good airflow you're looking at maybe 3% difference between top and bottom card in very bad scenarios where the card fans are spinning a lot then you'll 5%+ but never more than 10% difference between top and bottom, but those are really extreme scenarios if you want to do some heavy oc it's a whole another story recently got a PNY 3080 TI which is like at the bottom of that char and I couldn't be more happy, it's a wonderful card and fans are hardly ever even spinning. but i run it stock with the basic oc provided with the card software (of which i really can't remember the name)

It must've been a crazy amount of work to put these videos together. Only one note: It'd be more informative to weigh these numbers with price, I mean there can be a significant price difference between different tier cards
@OTechnology Жыл бұрын
Thanks. It is quite a lot of work. Unfortunately comparing price is impossible since the prices are different everywhere around the world. That's fine though since with this guide you can just buy the best card in the price point that you're comfortable spending on.

i instantly subscribed and like for this really good work given here this is absolutely awsum so a question at today date seeing that 4000 nvidia gpus are out would you still consider to buy a 3080ti HOF GALAX ?

Where the VRM data you used in your video comes from?

From reviewers that take apart the card and show PCB pictures and also directly from the manufacturers.

I'm curious, what are the factors that puts the HOF OC Lab(which isn't purchasable anymore I believe since these binned GPUs are limited) over the Strix LC? I would personally think the Strix LC to be the BEST 3080 Ti in an out of the box condition/with stock cooler. I've flashed mine with the 1000w bios and temps still remain pretty good under gaming load too, topping out just at 61c with a less than stellar case airflow. I doubt any aircooled card on that 1000w bios will be able to remain under 80 due to how much more leaky the 3080 Tis seem to be(see Strix 3080Ti vs 3090 temps, or the FTW3s)
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
The other HOF cards are the same thing. Its just the fact that the VRMs are way overbuilt and being made for LN2 with a 1000W BIOS being supllied as well. As I said in the video the Strix is really the best one for daily use for most people. It is not however a LN2 focused card, an otherLN2 focused card would be something like EVGA's Kingpin.
@BlaZebura2 жыл бұрын
@@OTechnology sadly the kingpin is 3090/3090Ti only I’m glad the HOF exists because otherwise we won’t have the 1000w bios

The Gigabyte 3080 Ti seems to suffer from a fatal defect in light of the Diablo 4 beta. Any thoughts on that?

I haven’t looked too deep into it but it may be similar issues as the EVGA cards that blew up.

Hey I have a pretty much 3080ti for msrp but its manli model. This manufacturer is not included on your list. Should I avoid it? this is the cards model name M-NRTX3080TI/6RFHPPPV2-M3514
@reviewforthetube64852 жыл бұрын
Idk tbh i feel a few out of place. Fhe 3080ti evga has proven with its OC numbers even if some things in specs may not tell yoy everything that it should be neck and neck with the strix. The evga 3080ti is a beast and has some of the highest numbers out co the box in benchmarks. Idk how evga does it but they do. I think to many of us look at a piece of paper snd judge a card ee should be using real world performance. Regardless alot of these cards are so similiar you wont notice the differences in play at all!

I don´t have any interest in overclocking and the PNY revel card has a pretty competitive price comparing with the "better ones" (-300€)... Is it safe to use it for gaming, or there´s a real chance of having a future faulty card, due to bad specs?
@RobertSmith-lh6hg2 жыл бұрын
Way too much emphasis on VRM quality being reflected in power limit. Have been pulling 500+ through a GB Gaming OC, no issues. They're all so over provisioned it's laughable. The limits are ONLY reflective of the PCIE 8 pin count ,*150 + 75 watts from PCIE slot. Some add or take couple of watts here or there, but that's why they're grouped as they are... My GB Gaming OC is crapping all over the higher priced cards on 3dmark, catzilla, and Superposition databases. So...yeah, explain that.
@OTechnology2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's true. But this is a buying guide. At the same price point you use my guide to buy the card with the best VRM, power limits and cooler.
