Not only are ATX and mATX boards easier to get a hold of many folks , such as myself, do a ton of budget builds for my own family, kids, and friends where they love the idea of SFF pcs (after seeing all of mine!) but the costs of going small can actually get large pretty fast. So lets say a used ATX board and 65w cpu along with some decently efficient GPU in the 150w or so range and a case like this are perfect. There are a ton of B450 boards and Ryzen 3000 cpus out there going dirt cheap right now with people upgrading and I think those and up to a 3060 or rx 6600 would be easy to cool in a case like this. I also would like to see an SFX PSU option even though the proportions and volume of the case would change. Awesome concept Josh and of course I would love to see it developed further.

Smaller form factors with ample cooling that competes with full size ATX cases will eventually dominate the market and allow for massive computing power that only requires an outlet. You can just bring a light mobile display like ASUS strix XG17. Now you have mobile desktop power that trumps any laptop.

This case design almost feels like a natural progression from the Silverstone ML03b/04 or Aerocool QS-101, which gets me excited about ways to create smaller/vaguely cheaper ATX cases. Possibly a bracket(? don't know the correct term) for a Smaller-Than-SFX/FlexATX power supply HDplex or PicoPSU. Would be great for any future Athlons or low end Xeons.

I love how compact this is, and that I wouldn't have to replace any hardware except for the psu & cooler to downsize. Wonder if SFF would be better then Flex, though that would require going 43.5mm wider and 23mm taller..... I was thinking SFF due to available wattage and an ever increasing power demands, the extra size would accommodate triple slot cards and taller CUP coolers but you loose the ultra compact nature of the case. The other way would be turning it increasing height by 84.5mm which is a bit much, it is 18mm thinner though so it adds a place for a few SSDs Ah, it likely wont matter anyway small PSUs have been increasing in wattage over the years, and at the rate GPUs are going they won't be able to fit into anything but full towers.
@NotFromConcentrate
@NotFromConcentrate 2 жыл бұрын
Some designers have been putting an SFX psu in front of the motherboard not long after the S3 MINI was released. This is attractive to some people but there is an issue; sure, you can have 700 or 800w of power in a case that thin, but you can't easily 700w of power; so if your GPU can't cool itself without assistance (and modern 3090s have trouble without cooling over their backside) at end of the day I think something like OTS makes more sense. You could modify it to be wider rather than deeper, so you can increase the CPU cooler and have more powerful fans in the front. The only wrong way though is the way you don't enjoy. :)

Might be best to remove the shroud and even the fans from the vantus card and rely on the case cooling instead though it would depend on the fin orientation. I've seen people do similar concepts and having these still on the card can hamper thermals.

I think atx and matx has been neglected in the sff space. If only for the fact the hardware is much cheaper than itx and options are more plentiful. I am just starting to collect parts for a next build. I was considering building a case myself as I find case options limiting, and frustrating. This look great. I joined your patreon and downloaded the plans. I have no idea how I will use them as I don’t have and cnc (except for a 3D printer I don’t have time to use. I have thought about finding a machine shop to make it for me. Always an option I guess. If these go into production I would definitely be keen. Hope you deliver to Australia! Every time I have checked on you stock of cases it usually sold out. Will have to start following closer. Thanks for your inspiration and all the best to you

10x27x40CM (10.8L). Footprint and functionality is king and I think this case strikes an excellent compromise. It runs ice cold, has plenty of air gap for the fans so it is super quiet, and it takes up very little space on the desk. Not all my experiments are worth sharing but I liked this one!

How do you feel about the high on cocaine CPU/GPU power draws in the current, and next gen parts? As much as I love sub-10L cases, it would seem like we're going to need brilliant builders like you to start designing larger, more heat capacitive cases in the near future. What do you think a ~10L S4M mk2 style case, capable of housing and cooling 240W CPUs, 450W GPUs would even have to look like?

@@NotFromConcentrate Yeah me neither. I appreciate and support unleashing designers to build further, farther, faster, but not at the expense of abandoning all reason. Lower wattage, more efficient design, fiscally responsible market segments are suffering from lack of update, while the shiney stratospheric benchmark monsters are getting all of the development. The closest thing to an ITX GPU anymore is still basically a single 2070, or literally TWO 3060/ti cards. Noe we're being told to prepare ourselves for unheard of power draws, and new, more power capacitive PSU cables, and ATX 3.0 PSU standards that would allow for spikes over US 1600W power limits!?! Are they crazy!?! How are you going to render the US power grid obsolete for your video card!?! Obviously the standard is building in basically capacitors to handle the "temporary overvoltages" but that's just opening the door for combined expected power draws over 1600W.

I'd initially considered a similar build, using a 240 or 280x86mm Monsta rad in the bottom of the Cerberus X, with a mATX or ITX motherboard, but decided on a dual socket build instead.
