I used to rescue a river otter. He was too attached and became a family pet. He collected and hid all his favourite pebbles and shells at one spot and he'll bring out 2 at a time to play on his belly when he's floating in the nearby still water. He used that to smash his food open too.

This was very cute. However, there were actually 2 types of otters shown here: sea otters and river otters. They are quite different. Sea otters are the ones that float on their backs with their babies on their chests. However, river otters primarily live and sleep on land and rear their infants there. Therefore, river otters don't have the thick coats of fur that sea otters do. They also don't leave their children floating in beds of seaweed.

Yes!!! I was checking the comments in search of someone pointing this out! There are many species of otters, only two are from salt water. The Marine Otter is in the same genus as the american river species, so somewhat similar to them, and the floaty one is the Sea Otter, very different.

@@alexev651 There's always some jerk whose response to cute videos like this is to harp on about animal behavior that would be genuinely horrible in humans, but for the most part, even if it IS ugly to hear about, is just part of what wild animals are like as they struggle to survive in the wild. They don't actually care, they just want to upset people. Ignore them.
@RD1R
@RD1R 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanceMonkeychg yes there are parade rainers... But they are a particularly ferocious mammal. Beyond the stated behaviors, they are also one of the most aggressive and unique predators. They fish by... Outswimming fish. They are literally the most agile swimmers in their environments, which is incredible considering modern sea otters only evolved to live in the water full time 4ish million years ago. Sharks are in the hundred million year range. And with that ridiculous aggression and agility, you get some less than glamorous behaviors like infanticide and the r word and playing with dying seal pups. Don't look at it with human standards. To otters, it's normal. They are a highly specialized and fascinating and adorable species, but like ALL species parts of their lives are pretty dark when you apply human reasoning. And I do think part of learning about nature should involve parts of it beyond the super cute. The dodo doesn't need to go into graphic detail, but it is subpar to not at least hint that they and all their relatives are the best family of killers on the planet. Maybe the "hater" could be more nuanced, but I'd prefer it to just making everyone want a pet otter.

There are many benefits to having children who interact with animals as well as adults. For example, by taking care of pets, which are fragile, irreplaceable creatures and taking care of them, making it easier for them to grow Compassionate and warm hearted. Also, by observing changes in a pet that cannot talk on a daily basis, you can feel the effect of being gentle and sensitive to people's feelings. Both of these effects are created over a long period of time, not only by temporary contact, but also by the relaxing effect of being together. Even if you cannot live as a pet, it is a good idea to interact with the animals from time to time and support the animal channels🐈🐈🙏

There was like one single shot of an otter and seaweed in this. Very clever headlining, Dodo, very clever.

Ridiculously cute and beautifully touching. Nerdy note: quite a few animals use tools (e.g octopus) and some birds, (e.g. Crows)

They did say "one of the only other mammals", so I guess they were mostly referencing like, primates? Regardless I love seeing animals use tools. One of my favorites is that experiment they did with crows, and the crows were smart enough to bend a wire into a hook to pull out a vial of food. Super adaptable animals.

Mothers hold the weight of the world on their shoulders. The more I learn about the natural world, the more apparent that fact is. From having to make new members of their species out of their own bodies and bear the pains and struggles of pregnancies and birth, to having to protect them, as well as teaching them how to hunt or live on their own in general. Females of all species are the real heroes.

The word "Mother" is sexist, transphobic and racist according to the feminist so it was decided to change to " Birthing person " in dictionary, so watch your pronoun

@@deidresable Thanks for the laugh. I'm not even going to bother entertaining that statement which I'm pretty sure is inaccurate anyway, considering the fact that the term terf is already in the dictionary.
