Antonov 225 (UR-82060) finally leaves Manchester Airport after being delayed 24 hours. The huge aircraft is seen departing runway 23L on Wednesday 26th June 2013. The aircraft certainly pulled the crowds in. Just before the Antonov crosses onto runway two, Thomson 787 Dreamliner, G-TUIC lands on 23R.
The Antonov 225 is currently the largest aircraft in the world.

roseynick The bigger the plane, the greater the optical illusion - but I remind myself that the air under the wing is heavier/denser than the plane. We think of air as being 'nothing' and yet I read that the air pressure on an average adult male is equal to a ton and our bodies are equalizing that pressure from the inside, and if we were to find ourselves in a vacuum, like space, we would virtually explode from the inside out... what a piece of trivia to start the day... lol. But air is HEAVY MAN!

People don't realize how big this honker really is. It dwarfs a 747. It is the largest airplane in operation today. Believe it or not, the infamous spruce goose is still bigger. Not as powerful, not given the piston driven engines of the day, but still larger in wingspan. Believe it or not, Rolls Royce Aircraft makes a jet engine big enough that one could power this thing. They would never do that, but it could. Two would be the minimum they'd ever use for saftey reasons.

Mrs V and me were enjoying a nice lunch in the garden of the Railway Hotel, Mobberley that day when the sky went suddenly dark. @sergeytarasov8319 10

The structural loading on the aircraft frame as those 6 engines produce a total of 309,600 lbf of thrust while waiting to roll. She holds the world record for an airlifted single-item payload of 189,980 kilograms (418,830 pounds), and an airlifted total payload of 253,820 kg (559,580 lb). She has also transported a payload of 247,000 kg (545,000 lb) on a commercial flight. She'll hold 300,000 kg (661,000) lbs of fuel. Just put it on my Visa card.

Antonov Airlines.

The H-4 Hercules flew once. Distance: just over one mile. Duration: 26 seconds. Maximum altitude: 70 feet. 71 years ago. Estimated maximal payload: 68.2 tons, which was never tested. The Antonov 225 was built in 1980 and is still in commercial use today. One of its contracts was, ironically, to airfreight 216,000 prepared meals, weighing 187.5 tons from Stuttgart, Germany, to American military personnel based in Oman. Still, you have reason to be proud. The useless goose has the biggest wingspan of any aircraft ever built.
