You're doing an amazing work. This is real, practical sociology : no ideology, no empty talk, just a ruthless, non complaisant observation of life, in many american cities, villages and rural areas. I've seen most of your videos, and salute your incredible amount of efforts. You're doing today just what Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans did for the F.S.A. (and Library of Congress) in the '30. Your reports would deserve a M.A. (if not a PhD), more than many academic publications. Greetings from France.
@redwolfexr2 ай бұрын
There is a decent hint of his ideology. He just isn't blatant about it. Also a fair amount of focus on the more run down areas. (oddly enough this recap is focusing on the less run-down) Which isn't to say its not a great channel and I have watched it for a long time. Back before he changed the name of the channel. FWIW I am going through the same thing, mid 50s and can't find a job after a layoff. I have one offer for a 27K paycut. (its an entry level job)
@SergeCeyral2 ай бұрын
I traveled (with my wife) extensively thru 14 US states (mostly in the South and East) and what I see, with these videos, looks much like what I've seen (Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee...). What struck us was the extreme poverty in rural zones, and suburbs, often next to very wealthy areas (in Chicago, Cleveland, Akron, Dallas, Austin, Jackson, Little Rock, Atlanta, Phillie...). The difference is less, in France (though many former industrial suburbs are very poor, at home too). Our social systems are so different, to an inimaginable extent (and the consequences are quite visible, especially for some black and spanish zones). France is no paradise, but maybe one of the furthest corners of hell on Earth...

Thank you Joe and Nicole for making this incredible road trip and putting it all on video. In 1968 I enlisted in the Navy in March, I did not have to report for basic training until August. I quit my job, threw a suitcase in the trunk of my 1963 Chevy Biscayne and hit the road. I started from Sacramento and visited many of the places you included in your videos. Route 66 to Amarillo, south to Pampa and Lefors and then to Dallas to visit my aunt and uncle who lived near Love Field. Then to Virginia and Washington DC, New York and New England, across the Midwest, plains, mountains and deserts and back to Sacramento. Three months on the road covering 10,000 miles We visited many of the same places, some look much the same, others are unrecognizable after over 50 years. I always wanted to take another road trip after I retired, but you two saved me the trouble! PS I spent less than $500 bucks, gasoline low as 20 cents per gallon, Holliday Inn, room with breakfast 12 to 18 bucks, steak and eggs in Omaha, $2:25. And I camped out and stayed with friends and relatives. What a treat this has been to watch your adventure. Did you get to Fort Morgan, Colorado? And finally, as a side note, was inducted into the Navy 5 August 1968, was trained as a Hospital Corpsman and assigned to General surgery taking care Marines wounded in Vietnam. Served 6 years, discharged 4 August 1974. Went to grad school and taught politics and government to college students for 43 years... all began with that road trip 56 years ago. Thank you for bringing that trip alive again with your travels and videos. All the Best Ted Blair
