One thing that NOBODY told me until weeks in and it has honestly been the biggest piece of advice. My Daughter would not settle in her Moses basket; and then the midwife come one day and I said “honestly it’s like she can’t get to sleep” and she came up to my room and had a look at the basket and said it was because I had the moses so close to the bed that every time I moved, rolled or adjusted the duvet the noise was rustling on the moses and was waking her. Moved it like one foot away and she settled like a dream! X x

The nursery looks amazing !! If you haven’t already, I really recommend putting together a little basket of changing bits and a travel changing mat for downstairs! You won’t want to always take Amber upstairs for changing her xx

My baby has a designated changing area upstairs in her room, each time she needs changing we go there. It’s actually really good for babies and children to have set places that they associate with either times of the day or parts of there routine. But I think I do this out of mostly habit due to working in a nursery the last 6 years.x

I know you’ve probably done loads of research into breastfeeding, but with James saying ‘if she wakes and doesn’t need feeding’ with breastfeeding, especially in the early days the baby will cluster feed ALOT to up your supply🥰 you’ll want to feed or offer breast whenever she wakes to keep your milk supply up. At night time is when your ‘milk making hormone’ is at its highest, so it’s really vital that night feeds don’t get missed if baby wakes xxx EDIT: I didn’t mean it as a bad thing, I genuinely wanted to make them aware in case they weren’t❤️ breastfeeding is hard and required a lot of feed on demand. Unfortunately some people have a misconception that babies should be fed on a schedule but this won’t work for EBF especially in the early days. They feed to up your milk supply, so to succeed it’s vital that baby is fed as often as she wants to establish the supply she needs! Removal of milk=production of milk🥰 also a lot of EBF babies will wake for comfort from mums breast too❤️ I wasn’t given the support I needed or the information, if I didn’t go out and find it, I would never have known! It wasn’t a snide or nasty comment at all so I don’t want anyone thinking that xxx

I’m so glad to hear you talk about safe sleeping! It’s honestly so refreshing to see on the internet! As a new mum myself it’s been SO difficult to find someone who is also practicing safe sleep! We learnt very quickly that past around 8 weeks, baby started to learn to bring a blanket up towards his face, so we switched to just baby sleeping bags and they’ve been a dream, and arent a risk for suffocation! Just wanted to share this with you x

I also wanted to add that there’s a risk when using it as a co sleeper (being something that you’re not sure on whether you are going to do yet!) - things like pillows and blankets have an easier route into the sleep space! My health visitor actually advised having the sleep space 1 foot away from the bed to avoid any of this! We actually found it helped baby sleep a bit better as the rustling of the bed sheets at night was disturbing his sleep! So excited for you, its all so close! You’re going to be AMAZING parents ❤️

James is right, the second she’s here everything goes out the window, especially the first few days you literally don’t care where anything belongs or what the nursery looks like, convince is key! ( well done practical James🤣 ). Although if you’re anything like me and suffer from postpartum rage ( yes it’s really a thing ) then when the shock wears off you get raging at everything looking out of place particularly in the nursery lol. Can’t wait till Amber is here for cute little newborn videos!💜

We had a changing table...never used it. Paranoid me always changed my kids on a changing pad on the floor, they can't fall off the floor. Can't wait for your little one to arrive!

The nursery is so sweet you’ve both done really well. We used the changing table sometimes but now we’ve changed into a table with storage on top. I would advise a caddy for in your room and in the lounge with nappies etc for convenience x

The nursery is beautiful I think you have both done a great job, it looks so calm and a happy space. Something I found handy when I had my daughter is I had a basket in the living room with nappies, nappy cream, bags, wipes etc and a changing mat so you have it all to hand. Also a gro egg is quite handy to know the room temperature!

So excited for you guys. A cloth portable basket to keep some nappies, creams etc might be a good idea in your lounge and/or kitchen. If you look on Mrs Hinch site you will see she has a few for Ronnie dotted around her house. Save you coming up the stairs to the nursery every time Amber needs changed xxx

My only suggestion would to be add a rolling cart so you can have a changing/nursing station anywhere in the nursery, and add some books lower down so she can choose some and feel them herself ❤️☺️☺️

Our hospital even has a volunteer program for reading to NICU babies because even as tiny tiny little ones reading can help brain and long term development.

At least for the first few weeks, I would have somewhere you can change her in your room. That way you don't have to go anywhere, and you lose less sleep. (Maybe even move the rocker in there for a bit to feed if you'd like.) Her room is beautiful!

You can get door stops to put behind the door so you can keep the hook and it won’t hit the wall. I use one from Dunelm which is for a babies room. It looks like a babies cuddley toy and it’s a little owl. I am sure you can get one that matches your room decor. Love the nursery

I found that Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Breast Pads are the best. 1 pair will last the day and another pair for the night. Rather than others that u have to change repeatedly throughout the day. One box would last me the month. I found it easier for night feed to prop myself up with the nursing pillow rather than becoming wide awake by getting out of bed.

I've seen in so many videos, that it's really handy to have a lil side table next to your breastfeeding chair, so that you can put a glass of water, some snacks or even your phone with Netflix on there while you're breastfeeding 🥰 so excited to meet Amber! I’d recommend a dimming light bulb in the lamp, so you can set the intensity. I also agree with the people saying you need a caddy in almost every room with nappies and wipes so you don’t need to change room just to change her. Also sometimes, if you have a blow out, vests are cheap enough that it might be work just throwing them out and buying more. I’ve had quite a few that just wasn’t worth washing 😂 can’t wait for you to experience the whole new love that comes from motherhood

you could add something to the door stopper to make it stick out more so the door hits that again istead of the hook. Maybe those felt stickers that can also be used to put under chairs and stuff? because im sure that hook will come in handy xx

Such a good idea to wait and see how ypu want and what you need when she’s here! You and Amber will be beginners being parents and baby and a family and you will figure it out together! ❤️ You are going to be the best parents for Amber and you will do what works best for you! Just a suggestion for the baby hanger on the door, you could move it into one of the sunken in panels on the door and it would probably be in far enough to not bang off the wall (you could buy another one to put on the other side of the door to make it even if that makes sense)

For me, I found having the side on our next to me off really useful for breastfeeding because I could literally grab baby and feed in the night. We’ve used it with two of our babies and it’s honestly a game changer! That light is brilliant next to the bed, wish I’d have seen something like this! Xxx
