Some fans of the show have shared their concerns with the episode, especially since it wasn’t clear that the discussion was centred around the over glamourisation of unhealthy bodies. The conversation took place, but didn't make it into the edit. On hindsight, without the context we (producers) had, it is completely on us that the context wasn't properly set for our viewers for which we apologise. It didn’t help either that the original title of the video oversimplified the issue and the discussion that took place. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that we do not condone body shaming. And that we acknowledge the many struggles everyone goes through that might affect their body, be it genetic, health, financial, culture and others. We would also like to thank many of you for taking the time to write to us all these years. Your feedback, thoughts and suggestions keep us going.

Farah summarized the topic perfectly. Many people don't know this but the way you look externally does not absolutely determine your health. Thus, we truly dont know what others are going through and should not judge so quickly...that includes whether they are "glamourizing" the fat or simply confident of being themselves.

I agree. I thought she had the best take out of the group for this discussion. I was disappointed with the boys, especially Kishan, who kept trying to push being fat as a choice.

@@mintsplash they definitely need to revise their points because no one knows what people are going through, thus we should normalise loving our own bodies and taking care of it...and they shouldve emphasized this instead of making certain calls on what is a choice or not.

Body positivity includes accepting skinny body types too. People always react to others saying they want to gain weight in such a negative manner but there are people struggling with eating disorders or just simply do not have the genes to maintain a healthy weight. Just because someone is trying to lose weight, it should not invalidate someone trying to gain weight. Any weight should be accepted as long as the person is healthy and feels good about themselves.

true but i feel that people who are fatter often receive more negative comments so they not only feel bad about themselves but society makes them feel worse. Its not rlly an argument on the same level but then again no negativity should ever be tolerated regardless of weight

Totally relate to Kishan. I used to want to be Chinese so bad (tried speaking like them, having /that/ 'bangs' hairstyle to fit in) but eventually, you'll realise your own heritage is important and as cheesy as it is, is what makes you unique. You're a minority and because not everyone is like you, some awesome opportunities might come knocking on your door. The best thing you can do is embrace how you look and realise that beauty standards vary all over the world anyway.

to gain weight, snack on nuts!! they're super healthy, have many health benefits and are naturally higher in calories :) also, avocados are a great addition to one's diet if you're trying to up your calories. i used to have 2 big avocados blended with honey and full-fat milk (avocado milkshake!) and an entire bag (400g) of roasted cashews every night. this was on top of my normal 3 meals a day. i ended up gaining about 5kg in 3 months (coming from someone with super high metabolism and has struggled with gaining weight for years) :)

I'm a plus size , everybody always thought is because I eat alot tht why I'm fat . But they nvr knew is due to my rare illness happen when I'm 15 . Causes me to took steroids to control th relapse . Steroids have side effect of always being hungry and its so hard to control. And I had it for like 3 to 4years from a 54kg to 38kg (was hospitalized and only had milk thru tubing ) to 89kg (when I can eat and gg in and out of hospitalfor drips) . After I recover and stop medication , I managed to control my eating , exercise and slim dwn 6 to 7kg . But ever since then my weigh always still maintain at 81 - 83kg . At least I'm healthy and my illness did not relapse for 6years alrdy . And due to I have epilepsy so I can't go for slimming centre . Which I did went to ask . Even with intermittent fasting my weigh also maintain at 81 to 83kg . I did th 16-8 .

Quite disappointed that there are a lot of factors not being considered in this whole "body positivity = glamourising being fat" topic. There is a lot to unpack. People need to acknowledge the whole movement of "bo dy positivity" came in retaliation of people automatically assuming "fat = unhealthy" AND "skinny = healthy". *If an obese person starves themselves and becomes of healthy weight, are they suddenly healthy?* A skinny person could be under-muscled, be sedentary, unable to climb up stairs or walk a mile without getting winded, but they don't get deemed as unhealthy. People might even call them "Body Goals". So why is it wrong when fat people don't mind their own weight? FYI - skinny people are at higher risk of bone loss, osteoporosis and sarcopenia. Primarily because skinny people tend to be under-muscled. Is losing bone and being at a higher risk of bone fractures, dislocation, etc, not unhealthy too? Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say fat people are 100% healthy. The point I'm trying to make is that you CANNOT tell someone's health from their appearance (Props to Farah for pointing this out!).

PREACH!!! when i was at my skinniest, i was starving myself and had gastric problems everyday, but everyone told me i looked good and “healthy”. but now that i’m eating proper meals and exercising, i’ve gained weight and people ask me why i’ve “given up” on losing weight. people really need to stop making comments about appearances when they don’t know a person’s backstory. (applies to both telling people they’re skinny/fat, because u may not know which phrase will trigger them)

I think we have to acknowledge that everyone's insecurity is different: What is insecure to you, doesn't have the impact for me. I've always been skinny and I wanted to put on weight so badly. It sucks to hear people say "girls envy you so much" as a guy.

Glamoursing fat = Glamoursing health risk? I think is subjective. Few sports athletes are plus size and healthy Glamoursing fat doesn't mean Glamoursing health risk (just my point of view) Most important is as long as you're healthy, plus size or too skinny doesn't really matters. Eg: sumo wrestler, some MMA fighters, and famous chinese koufu Huang Jinbao, basketball player Shaquille O'neal

I used to be on the camp of "you shouldn't be proud of being fat" especially because I used to be fat but lost weight. But I came to realise that's not very nice. Why shouldn't people who are fat be proud of their body and be able to show it off the way average or skinny people do? I feel that it's not about glamourising the health risks that comes with being obese but letting someone be happy with whoever they want to be. They're not harming you by being fat. Why should you come in and police their health for them? The toll on someone's mental health when they're constantly being put down or told to lose weight for their health can be very serious and damaging as well. To sum it up, just let people be comfortable with whoever they want to be. If they choose to be proud of being fat, be happy for them. Edit: remember people, make the change only if *you* want to. Not because someone is telling you it's wrong to be fat because it's unhealthy. If you feel like it's unhealthy and you don't like how you are, go for it. If you're happy being who you are and eating whatever you want, go for it. And for the people telling others to change their image, go away.

they are not harming others by being fat but...sometimes they do encroach into personal space by taking up more than the allotted space for one passenger on public transport. it's hard to be happy for them when my sides are all squashed up against strangers. otherwise, nothing against plus size peeps, I wholeheartedly agree with this comment, all for them living their lives happily...just keep the thighs and arms away from commuters when choosing to sit beside others and not act like conjoined twins? it does become an issue and some seem like they dont make effort to keep the skin contact to a minimum which is just plain inconsideration. same message for manspreaders. before anybody suggests why dont I just stick to private transport, this is stating basic public transport etiquette. just a PSA for whoever needs to hear it.

i wouldnt say that body positivity is glamourising the health risks of being obese. imo it's about not insulting fat pple and not jumping to conclusions that they're lazy or binge eaters. As someone with pcos, my excessive weight gain during puberty was a result of my hormones going apeshit, and there are many others whose obesity is out of their control even if they take steps to lose weight. i think the main point with body positivity is to not stigmatise and give fat people support and understanding instead of shaming and insulting them

Last time in CJC... we called it: FOSTER programme. For Overweight Students To Exercise Regularly. Had to exercise minimally 3 times a week and each time 6 rounds around the track i think.. but this programme helped me back then because there was a leaderboard of how many laps you clocked over the year. Lost 15kg in 3 months, got silver for NAPFA so enhanced BMT. but gained back slowly during A levels because school track was closed:/

I don't really like it when people keep shoving to your face that you're fat. I have friends who always constantly tell it on my face "Eh you fucking fat leh, do something about it" every fucking time they sees me. Honestly, sometimes I feel that I look okay - but whenever I get comments like this, my self-esteem went straight down. I've never liked myself anymore after the constant shoving on your face comments about my body. Even I went to the point that, since everyone is calling me fucking fat, might as well I don't give a shit to my body cause whenever I tries to give a shit and workout - I still get comments telling me that I'm fucking fat. My point is, people know if they are fat or skinny. You don't have to constantly shout it at their face. I feel that most of us are adults and we definitely know what we are and what we want to do. Yes, sometimes when you're obese it's not healthy for you but I believe you're big enough to know that it's not healthy and you should do something about it. I have friends who are considered obese but I've never once tell them to their face "Eh fucking do something la, you know you fat and you know its not healthy". I believe they are old enough to know what they are doing. I've been receiving fatshaming when I was at 60kg 165cm.

General rule of thumb: don't criticize or shame people for something they can't change within the next 5 minutes. Whether skinny, fat, acne etc. I don't think we have the right to comment or shame other people's bodies/personal choices if they aren't harming us.

yeahh...i'm not obese or anything, but I've always felt very fat. Mostly because almost my whole life, I've been sucking in my pot belly as if that would solve anything. So when I got to p5, I decided to start weaning myself over to having only one meal a day, and taking only 500 kcal in that one meal. I would wake up in the middle of the night and exercise because I didn't want anyone to see me and I lost weight. Until sec 1 December holidays I got back all the weight I lost. So now, sec 2, trying to get back into 1 meal a day, and losing sleep exercising at night, its hard. Especially since I know how hard it was before

PLEASE do it the correct way. The reason why you gained back all the weight is NOT because you lack self-control. It is because it is not sustainable for your growing body to eat so little and exercise so hard! And also, PLEASE do NOT sacrifice sleep for exercise. Right now, your body is so stressed out from all of the following: Prolonged dieting; Insufficient sleep; Exercise. I could link you to a study whereby participants who slept less than 8 hours a day ended up losing more muscle mass than another group who slept enough and lost primarily their fat mass. If you do not heed my advice, at least please listen to the science. Exercise temporarily raises cortisol (stress hormones) and that is why recovery is so, so important. Also, you do NOT need to eat 500kcal a day to lose weight! You can google "TDEE calculators" and they can calculate a manageable deficit for you to be in. Do not rush this process - the more unsustainable it is for your body, the more likely you will gain it back. And why would you want to be skinny but sacrifice your HEALTH? Your main goal is to live healthier and happier, am I right? Please take care of your health and body

I feel like a lot of people don't realise the difference between fat-shaming and "skinny-shaming". Yes, skinny people do get comments about their bodies and get told to "eat more" or that "you look like a twig". But the shaming when it comes to fat people, is systemic. Fat people are denied opportunities and equal health care simply for being fat, similar to how minorities in Singapore are denied opportunities due to not being Chinese. The way society treats skinny people as a whole and how society treats fat people as a whole is very different and skinny people are treated better. It is obvious that the world has been catered to skinny people and will always be catered to skinny people.
