for aligning an IRS vehicle, drop a plumb bob in the center of the wheelbase & center of the chassis width (chassis center), center the rear hubs laterally to this point, then align rear toe/camber & caster. then center the front hubs to the chassis center, adjust the front hubs to the rear hubs, then set your front camber/caster/toe. that'll square it all up. i would suggest 1/8 toe in on the rear tires and zero or 1/16 on the fronts, also set camber to -1deg both ends. will be gtg. 👍 on a tweaked or off-roaded rig, u do the best you can....but referencing everything to chassis center will get you tracking straight.

there's a couple of benefits from having a bolt go up from underneath (if you can't use a rivnut/nutsert) and from Rally car experience... you don't get stones/Gravel destroying the thread making it impossible to get the bolt undone again. but the other, if it does come undone, and the bolt goes down through the hole, it may stay there and not be noticeable until whatever is bolted there goes Byebye... but if the nut is on top and it comes undone, the bolt may be gone, but the nut rolls around on the floor and gets noticed... and it is so annoying you can't wait to stop and see where it came from. so much safer as well.

Nice to see you again Quinn. It's always good to have a true professional on the show. I just came here to say THANK YOU for doing some alignment work on the 350. It was painful to look at before. Replace the spindle, get it on flat level concrete and do it again please. Align it with the tires on it. The beauty of steel is it can be bent back just as easily as it was bent in the first place. Take the lower rear control arm off (trailing arm) and straighten it in the press. As for the bent frame, I haven't noticed it due to lens distortion, but some chain and a bottle jack will make short work of it. Special guest stars like Quinn the racing legend should have nothing but the best equipment available.

Back in the 80's my friends and I were working at the local motorcycle shops and racing motocross . I was at a big Kawasaki shop in Tulsa Oklahoma starting as a junior mechanic and having the time of my life ( Jet ski's and lake parties ) , We worked with a guy who owned a rental Odyssey Trails track and Motocross track and became big fans of the Odyssey . I felt like we had it made ... with Motocross , Jet Ski's , Odysseys 3 different models of the Yamaha RD 400's and 1 LC 350 ( Canadian model ) it was heaven . You are right , the Odyssey was an all around fun machine that rivaled our Motocross bikes ...almost . But no doubt it is great and fun machine.....the hop ups seem to be the ticket . I'm sure Quinn is a seasoned Odyssey driver but impress on her to start out slower and work her way up ...the new power and those balloon tires aren't a good combo and will let go if pushed too hard ( just a thought ) . Have fun everyone... love what you did to the Odyssey

When you lube the head threads before torqueing it reduces the thread friction and therefore increases the tensile stress on the bolt shaft. That is okay as long as the bolt shaft does not go into plastic deformation (permanent stretch).

got 20 mins left in the video - once thing I will recommend with those new plastics - add some rubber bushing material with some washers to increase the surface area the mounts hold on to while also cushioning the plastic against vibration and harsh impacts. Even with fresh plastic it starts getting brittle fast under 50 degrees, and it's basically $2 per fender in insurance.
@adventuresofbadtoe5774Ай бұрын
Torque specs are set with the intention of using a clean dry thread. By adding lubricant to the threads you actually end up over tightening which can stretch the studs.

The overheating problem in the initial batch of FL350 Odysseys was fixed by installing a lower compression head. As you discovered, the liquid cooled head can get away with the higher compression and deliver better performance.

regarding bolt engagement: good rule of thumb is you want slightly more thread engagement than the diameter of the bolt. that front trailing arm bolt gets pulled back during wheel impacts, be real careful not to rip the threads out of the chassis lol. I'd probably get a new tirerod, fatigue stress is a thing
@c0c0asauceАй бұрын
You wanna find the centerline of the chassis by measuring the frame and compare that to the toe on each corner. That will allow you to adjust one corner at a time and avoid crab walking
@thomaslemay8817Ай бұрын
Youse guys should start checking the total pounds before start modes and compair afterwards so you know if you're making it heavier or lighter . This mod. Lost your snorkel, probably not a problem depending upon the amount of rain you encounter. It looks like you could drop that seat down two or three inches by putting square tubing detween the seat pan and frame on the bottom side lowering your CG if ground clearance is not an issue. If you don't have width problems you could use wheel spacers to give it a wider track with making tipping (rool over) less likely. Fine tuning the tire pressure can also reduce rool over but you can loose forward thrust and braking traction at the same time . Perfect chassey tune can be very elusive. I discovered long ago horse power can give you an edge but if the chassis is not perfect you will be getting laped by people with less power and a better chassis setup.
