I’m a moderately handy person, but building some shelves and adding a clothing rod to a closet isn’t the hardest thing to do after a trip to the hardware store. Toss in a small dresser and voila! You’ve got a closet under $200. I feel like even hiring a carpenter to build out a custom closet out of decent quality wood would still be under $7k…

Better help is actually pretty problematic. If anyone here thinks about trying it out, I would suggest doing some research beforehand! I know that these are tough times, but I want everybody to be careful

PUT CURTAINS IN FRONT OF THE DOOR FRAME OR INSIDE! It can look super nice when it's done well, floor-length, etc. Also, my dad works in shelving & custom closets- independent company and contractors. We're not in LA, but independent companies ALWAYS do a better job than any large corporation! Look into closet contractors in the area, look at their reviews, etc! There are probably places with much more reasonable prices as well!

I love the idea you've suggested which is to keep clothes you love but haven't worn in awhile out of sight for awhile until you find yourself wanting them back again. I feel like the minimalism trend has me thinking I need to dump clothes I haven't worn in a year out and replace them but that's unsustainable too at times, especially because I usually regret getting rid of xyz and sometimes rebuy similar items. it's okay to have things in storage and saved for whatever reason it is. we live in such a consumerist society but it's not a bad thing to enjoy having things.

My most recent panic attack was in the Container Store and directly related to their closet systems, so this is very validating.

im really confused like, do people not just buy drawer sets and shoe racks and stuff from target? or shelves and rods from home depot?
@wellthisiskj2 жыл бұрын
I agree with the suggestion of getting matching hangers, and for an open closet you might have to curate/style it slightly. And service workers have been backed up for months so the delay in schedule time for the install makes a lot of sense. We have a larger container store closet (same color and draw fronts that you have!) that we installed ourselves and it's gorgeous, we are so pleased with our purchase and the install wasn't fun but since then we've had 0 issues. We are going to redo some of our other closets with the elfa systems because they're so versatile!

For future reference, I’ve noticed that many times IKEA will say something is out of stock, but when you go to the warehouse it has a out of stock sign and yet the item will be there…. So never fully believe it unless you have to drive miles to it. Also, I highly recommend you get the closet designed at the store because there are always parts and things you don’t even know you need and so it’ll save you a trip. Second tip- get their little drill or something similar. I built my dad’s kitchen cabinets and my mom’s closet and those little drills are are better than standard because of the small spaces and weird angles.

When I moved to LA, I wanted more simple storage options and thought “oh hey, container store! Containers! Storage! That’ll be the reasonable option”. Walked around the store and was aghast at the prices given the quality. Just bought a cute epoxy earring holder (no regrets there, super cute) and walked away vowing to never again return to Container Store

One option for your closet (at least aesthetically) would be just installing a curtain rod and getting cute fancy curtains as opposed to any kind of door! Saves space, relatively affordable and looks nice 😌

I had no idea that building closets was such a thing! My closets have always been like a random homemade iron beam for the clothes rail and shoe rack from T.J.Maxx or walmart then drawers or cubicles second hand and it looks better than those honestly haha

Love the video, love when you organize stuff so it’s be sick to see the other closer be organized. Also! I second someone’s comment who said putting curtains up instead of doors. It’s what I have and it looks so much better. Like the pocket ones not the grommets. I used a shower curtain rod and tightened it into place. Makes the room feel bigger too

For the Alexa Chung top, I’d go with a white bralette underneath, then tucked into white high rise bell bottom jeans with a white platform boot OR Layered underneath a beige waistcoat with high rise tan or brown flared pants or wide leg trousers with loafers OOOOOOR Layered underneath a white or beige deep v pinafore with matching toned knee high boots. If you’d feel comfortable with a little risk, accessorizing with yellow tights would look AMAZING.

tbh container store closets are only good if you buy the custom-built one where it is literally over $15,000 but they design and build everything for you and YOU CAN NOT ORDER ONLINE you must DESIGN With AN ASSISTANT IN PERSON. The Elfa is supposed to be an inexpensive option BUT it IS SO OVERPRICED.

I'm happy my Dad found cupboards and racking from an auction. He's pretty handy and we checked out a lot of the closet setups. Some were super sketchy and the nice ones were stupid expensive. He even made shoe racks to display my shoes and bags. I hope The Container Store gives you a refund and send someone to fix it. I don't think people should have to write something off that could potentially fall on you/cause injury.

Arden, I like you, with all due respect if it’s true please stop deleting people’s comments warning others about betterhelp. Whether you have to rely on them for a check or not, people deserve to know how many unprofessional experiences others have had before making a decision based on something their favorite influencer was promoting. That’s deeply problematic to be sweeping under the rug, because you’re right, we are in hard times, and people do need access to *reliable* help.
