I met up with a Scottish family who is living in London at Fenway Park in Boston and I had to come back to this video to add another comment. I am a Boston Redsox fan and routinely go to Fenway Park to see the games. It was this family's first baseball game. They were vacationing in the USA. What a blast my sister and I had with them! It was like they were family as we explained the game, laughed and cheered together. They enjoyed the traditional songs and activities. It was fun for all of us.

The first game is always a cherished memory. The feeling when you get your first glimpse of the field...I still think back to my time seeing both old and new Yankee Stadium. The first time is almost spiritual. Sadly, the Dodgers have suddenly been derailed with injuries. Yesterday Yamamoto had an arm issue and a little while ago Mookie Betts broke his hand. Just brutal. I don't wish/celebrate injuries for any team.

Those express lanes on the freeway are a game changer!! They are for cars where you have more than 2 people riding. I took a carload of kids down to Magic Mountain for a school trip. Yes getting in and out of Dodger Stadium can be a nightmare, much worse than Angels Stadium and it doesn't really lend itself to tailgating like Angel Stadium. Last time I went to a Dodgers game, my friends mom gave us tickets from her company and we were right behind home plate, there was no one in front of us. Turned around in our seats and Pat Sajak was sitting behind us and just behind him was the actor Ron Pearlman.

Rules for catching any ball heading your way: 1) Put your hands up, slight slit in the middle, 2) keep the ball in the middle of the slit, 3) when you feel the impact on your hands, close your hands immediately. If you can't see the ball in the slit, it will either hit your body elsewhere or miss you altogether. If you have a child, it might be better to focus on blocking the child's head than catching the ball. Balls are more easily caught with a glove. Put the open glove between the ball and you. If you can't see the ball, it'll likely hit the glove.

The ball is going to sting like crazy when it hits unless you have a thick glove.
@jeffreyphipps1507
@jeffreyphipps1507 3 ай бұрын
@@actadiurna6733 with a glove, it depends on the glove type. If a ball is kept in the pocket of a fielder’s glove, it won’t sting at all because the ball hits the pocket, not your hand part. The hand part is just for hanging on before release to throw the ball. First base and catchers gloves must stop maximum velocity balls, but usually don’t have to release as fast. There’s a slight delay in those gloves and they have more oil (or should to keep them supple) for better performance. However, as a result, after the play a ball used by a catcher will be inspected by an umpire to see if it’s oily and will be replaced if so. Some gloves absorb oil really well. Some won’t. Bringing a catcher’s mitt to catch fielding balls (foul balls) is the wrong thing to do. You’ll have less grip on impact. Using a fielder’s mitt, place the pocket between the you and the ball. When the ball hits the pocket, the glove, and your hand, will close around the ball automatically with no sting. Keep the glove closed and it’s yours.

I was so happy to see you guys visiting my old stomping ground Dodger Stadium! I often went to games back in the 1970’s and 1980’s before moving out of state. My favorite seats are what we called the nose bleed seats - the ones way above home plate. The view of the game is great up there, and the seats are cheaper. I think Dodger Stadium is the third oldest stadium in Major League Baseball, which began hosting games in 1962. It has held up very well over the years and is still a beautiful ball park.

Awesome. The expensive, field level seats behind your team’s dugout, or home plate, are really cool, but I like those nosebleed seats too. And Dodger Stadium _is_ the 3rd oldest, behind only Fenway & Wrigley, of course.

Growing up in the 70's baseball was a much more family-friendly environment than it is now. Lots of daytime games and I remember going to Shea Stadium and paying only $1.50 for the nosebleed seats. Peanuts were only 50 cents and hot dogs were a buck. Used to go at least a dozen times a year. When they built Citi Field, I remember finding out that the cheapest seats were $95. Don't think many middle class families could afford to take their kids to more than one or two games a year now.

@@runrafarunthebestintheworld The Wed and Sun daytime games are nothing new. Those were the days I would go to see the Mets when I was in HS in the 70's. While I think that they always sold beer, I don't think it became a real problem until the 80's. I remember one game I went to with some co-workers during the Mets 86 Championship season and several fights broke out between drunk fans. I think it was around that time that stadiums stopped selling beer in the 7th inning. But to me the biggest problem with Baseball attracting young fans is the sheer cost of the tickets now - at least the cost in the big cities. Dunno if the tickets in the smaller cities have ramped up as much as they did in NYC but the main reason why I became a Mets fan in the 70's was the fact that I could afford to go see a game with my firends.

He just kept taking me to games so by the time I was six I knew how to keep score on a scorecard. We always sat in the bleachers, which was pretty funny since we were both very light skinned. My mom made me wear a large bonnet. Some of my best memories of Cleveland are from the old municipal stadium, which sat 80,000. It has long since been torn down. I am 80 years old so when I started going to games, the Indians were in their prime - late ‘40s up to about ‘56. The Dodger franchise began its existence as the Brooklyn Trolly-Car Dodgers; hence the name.

Oh, no! You missed the seventh inning stretch! During the break in the seventh inning, everyone sings "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." Then, since 9/11, everyone sings a patriotic song -- usually "American the Beautiful." It's one of the best parts of the game!

Close, but not quite right. Yes, they sing at least one verse of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” every 7th inning stretch. What happens after the first verse varies by stadium and the day. Most days, it varies by stadium. Some play a different song after “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, others sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” a second time. Since 9/11, they’ll sing “God Bless America” (not “America the Beautiful” [FYI, America not “American the Beautiful fyi] on Sundays and certain holidays or other special days (4th of July, Memorial Day, 9/11, post-season/All Star Game). For a short while after 9/11 they sang “God Bless America” every game, but for 20+ years they only sing it on Sundays and the above mentioned special days.

The average MLB baseball stadium in the US can hold around 42,000 people. Sports are quite expensive in the US but MLB does play 162 games per season, meaning 81 home games. It’s quite accessible for fans and helps. Keep prices low. Me personally I love baseball but other people don’t even go to the games for the baseball. Whether you love baseball or not, it’s just a fun day at the park. In cities that don’t have MLB teams there are 120 minor-league baseball teams scattered throughout smaller cities in the country. So it’s not so much an exclusive club.

I remember watching a Chicago Cubs game on tv when I was a teen in 1979. It was against the Philanthropic Phillies, and we ended up losing 22-23. That had the most overall runs I ever remember seeing in a baseball game!

Life-long Dodgers fan here. Born and raised in SoCal. People who work in LA/Orange County leave for their 45 minute drive to work at 5am to try to get to work by 8am. You guys leaving early is all part of the Dodger Stadium experience. Everybody starts leaving Dodger Stadium by the 7th inning so they can "beat the traffic."

Dodgers' fans are notoriously late arriving and early leaving fans; the stadium is normally sparsely crowded until the 3rd inning and begins clearing out after the 7th.

On August 25, 1922, the Cubs beat the Philles 26-23, after leading 25-6. The most lopsided win occurred in 2007, when the Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 30-3.
