Our FIRST IMPRESSIONS of MARRAKECH 🇲🇦 - AMAZING first day in MOROCCO!

In this travel vlog we give our first impressions of Marrakech after an amazing first day in this bustling and most vibrant city of western Morocco.
We start our first day in the country at Café Des Épices for a delicious Moroccan breakfast. We stroll through the Medina and admire Koutoubia Mosque before visiting Cyber Park. We take a relaxing break at Le Jardin de Secret and eat a delightful Moroccan dinner at Cafe Chez Zaza, consisting of tagines and local Harira soup. After a room tour at Riad Tizriri we end the day at La Pergola Jazz Bar with beers and music.

A good advise : ALWAYS use bread to eat by dipping it in the sauce serve in ur dish !! Ohh by the way all the places u went for food are bit expensive,u can go for local palaces very cheap and good. Whilst u there, go to the traditional HAMMAM ( 20dh or less a ticket ) .

It would have been great to have local recommendations! The restaurants that show up on Google are often aimed more towards foreigners, so we didn't have a lot of information to go on. We release a food video next Saturday, so you should subscribe if you haven't, and watch that video when it's out! We know we overpaid for a few things in that video because we couldn't find things we wanted to try using Google. We would love to hear what the true prices of things should be, from a Moroccan!

What you were eating of this ‘dry’ bread. It is called Harcha. It is like a sweet hard cookie you can spread with different jams or honeys on it or dip in olive oil. Great vlogs, gonna watch 2 other Morocco vlogs. Next time you should visit other places outside Marrakech like Chefchaouen, Tanger, Agadir, Fez, Essaouira etc..

We were there in January 2023. I never went anywhere by myself since we always went to the same places. However, I never felt ignored or unsafe. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed walking around by myself very much though, because there were many people approaching us all the time (trying to sell us things or telling us not to go certain ways etc.), and I can only imagine it would be worse when being alone. There was a woman who grabbed my arm trying to do henna on my hand without my permission at the market at night. She was quite aggressive and I think it's not something uncommon to happen. I wouldn't really recommend female solo travelers that aren't experienced going to Marrakech. However, I've definitely heard of women having really great experiences alone. The tagines at this restaurant were served with rice and couscous (maybe this is not authentic). He also asked us if we wanted bread, but we didn't want to fill ourselves because we had so much more food to try! It would have been much better with bread. There was so much delicious sauce for dipping. We will have to make sure we eat them with bread next time we are in Morocco!

We had no problems - but we made sure we did plenty of research before going. There are many scams to watch out for, and of course, there may be petty crime like pickpocketing. We never felt like we were ever in any some of physical danger.

You definitely have to be vigilant. Knowing what types of scams to look out for will take you a long way (and there are certainly a few). I'd recommend watching a KZbin video on all the common scams to watch out for before you go. We never felt like we were "in danger" at any point though, and we walked around at night, every night.

@@wherearewe-yt i'm from Al Hoceima, it's in Northern Morocco and 300 km's from Tangiers. It's in the Rif mountains and 95% of the inhabitants do speak Riffian amazigh. Very beautiful beaches and a really quit city. Dakhla is my number 2 city. Other cities are Tetouan, Asilah, Taza, Saidia and Ifrane

having no division between bedrooms and bathrooms is NOT authentic .. in fact we never have bathrooms attached to bedrooms .. that's just the hotel cheaping out .. not everything you see in Marrakech is "authentic" ..

Interesting! A lot of the riads appear this way when we were looking to book them. Most only had a curtain instead of a door. Maybe you're right, and they're just trying to be cheap. 😂

The 80dh-secret garden! It's not even worth the 50dh you suggested. If it's too costly for a tourist how about an ordinary Moroccan ?!

We have been to countries in the past where attractions like this have a much lower fee, or are even free for locals (for larger parks or historical sights). I think that's the way it should be. With the availability of such beautiful, green spaces like Cyber Park available for free, the 80dh price tag was definitely questionable. Of course, we don't really know that until after we see for ourselves! 😅

@@wherearewe-yt you're right. For example most meusems in the expensive city of London are free, I've been to the natural history meuseum. It's colossal and unbelievably free. Marrakech is defininetely a tourist-city and the prices are obviously "touristic". I've noticed that from the food prices you exhibited. As a Moroccan I would know and choose some places that would cost me half those prices with the same good quality

@@fawzifalih5019 That's the benefit of knowing a local when you travel somewhere! Unfortunately, we didn't know anyone, so we didn't have the "inside scoop" on the best places to go. We did our own DIY food tour on our last day (which we will release in 2 weeks) and it was super tough finding information online about non-touristic restaurants to visit. The prices were still not "bad" for us, but we are very curious as to what the prices of some items should be, from a local perspective! Maybe you can watch that upcoming video and tell us. 😁

In marrakech and you don't find places with alcohol? Are you joking? Alcohol it's the most easy thing to find in morocco , especially in marrakesh , 😂😂😂 there are also stores that sell it

Easy compared to where, exactly? We were in at least half a dozen restaurants, and none of them had alcohol on the menu. Normal stores and grocery stores don't sell alcohol- we went to a few, and none did. We even went to a store on Google that was meant to have alcohol, and it turned out that it didnt even exist. 😂 Only a few specialty stores. We found a Carrefour at the end of our trip that had alcohol, and it was an hour walk from where we stayed. 😃

@@wherearewe-yt just in Gueliz , Marrakech , there is 3 alcohol stores and in gueliz there is a ton of pubs and bars , go to Gueliz and and l'Hivernage ( where is the Saadi Casino) it's modern areas but in the Medina (old city) you will find only fews restaurants with alcohol because it's the Medina , too much mosques etc

Very interesting! We make the comparison because we lived in Turkey for 3 months- and both breakfasts contain similar food. They both had fresh breads, honey and spreads, an egg dish and tea to drink. Both very delicious!

It's not a once in a lifetime experience for us though. We travel full-time, and travel on a budget. It's important to make decisions as to what is worth spending money on, and what's not. Some things can be equally as good, and be totally free- like Cyber Park. It's interesting that you take the time to focus on the one slightly negative comment (which is still not negative), as opposed to all the positives we had to say about Morocco. That's too bad. 😃

Interesting! We didn't know about the name mlawi, but we ended up trying both m'semen and amlou in the food video we have coming up. We absolutely love that amlou spread! So delicious. 😋
