Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. Nick, you felt that groove. And Lex, you immediately heard “Get Up, Stand Up” and felt the powerful message in the lyrics. That’s an amazing reaction. BTW, a story is told that Bob Marley liked War and/or invited a member to Jamaica. He went on to write his song with that riff. Thanks again. 🤪

Why just the hits? So many people making recommendations sound like they only know the hits from the radio or just have Greatest Hits albums. A helluva lot of the time the non-single tracks are better than the singles/hits.

War is/was a Los Angeles group of musicians, consisting of six African-Americans and one Norwegian harmonica player. The music is heavily steeped in Afro-Latino rhythms--because they are what primarily dominates L.A.'s musical landscape. At least they did at that time. What a fabulous "Band For All Seasons" they were/are!! I'm sooo grateful that they left such a huge body of work for subsequent generations to enjoy and keep alive. Be sure to check them out further: --Low Rider --Get Down --All Day Music --The World Is A Ghetto --L.A. Sunshine --The Cisco Kid --Gypsy Man --Why Can't We Be Friends --City-Country-City

Slipping into Darkness was not just a big hit but War was a huge popular group back in the seventies with a lot of great songs that were hits. The World is a Ghetto if I recall was the number one billboard album in 1973. I’m sure you heard in a movie or commercial, even a cartoon their song “Why Can’t We be Friends.” They even bad a great instrumental and one of my favorite songs I think you’ll love “City Country City” give it a listen you wont be disappointed.

The funk is deep with this one. Have been fortunate to catch them live -- an earth-shaking small room show in Mpls on my 30th bday (Lee Oskar was FULLY in the house) & multiple times outdoors at the MN Zoo. Got the Bob Marley / 'Get Up Stand Up' story straight from Lonnie at one of those -- he said War was opening for Bob, Bob heard the riff & raved about it, asked to use it himself, et voila -- GUSU!. They're so dynamic, soulful, honest...I challenge anyone to sit still thru just about any of their tunes. You guys are awesome, keep on rocking!

This is such a great and timeless song! Since you’re in a funk mood how about Living for the City from the 1973 Innervisions album by Stevie Wonder? Every song on this album is worth listening to and is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Living for the City is a song that brings the funk and some great imagery that is sadly as relevant today as in 1973. It’s worth noting that Stevie plays the majority of instruments on the album one of the highlights in my opinion, is his funky and “loose” feel on the drums... and his organic feel in moof synthesizer..and...never mind, just listen to it😊

Now its time for the funkiest sing ever written. "Thank You(falletnme be mice elf agin)" by "Sly and the Family Stone" (circa 70) . Bassist Larry graham literally invented the slap bass on this track. This group always made me chuckle. The music they made was so mellow, so funky but not heavy metal or hard rock like the name WAR would suggest.

WAR is originally from Long Beach, California. They had a small following when Eric Burdon, from "The Animals" saw them and released WAR's first two albums with them. He's the lead voice on "Spill The Wine", "Spirit", and others. They're primarily African American, but Lee Oskar, the harmonica player, is Danish. Great reaction! And it's true that Bob Marley asked permission to use their rift. There's actually an interview about that. Great content guys!

And the harmonica. The harmonica player wore a tool belt with about 8 harmonicas in it for various sounds.

Your mom knows,I’m 65 and we had so many bands back in the 60s 70s, we had multiple new songs coming out each week on AM radio , FM later . You guys enjoy and I like your reactions but never fake it, don’t listen to a new song if you say you haven’t .💪🎸🤘

If you watch our channel you will see that we always tell our audience when we have heard a song before. Why lie? What's the fun in that? Usually alexia or I have listened to the songs we choose. This was a request so both of us went in blind. We don't fake anything. Cheers

"I just want to cellebrate" is from Rare Earth a really great band, so you can try to react at "I could'nt believe what happened last night" from them.
