Just for comparison, two live versions of this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2PZpn6FoslkoNU kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3bWgJSDl7N5rdk Their energy on stage can't be overstated ;-) If you go for Karate next, best option is still Download 2016, avoid Glastonbury 2019, it has an awful mix as you already checked on PA PA YA!! But if you choose to go for IDZ, aka Ijime, Dame, Zettai, you can pick the official Sonisphere 2014, it's the most recurring one for good reasons or go with this one, same year at the Forum, smaller venue but great crowd: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6u1Y5J5eJ6LntE not many people know this is on the Tube ;-)

Drew and Amy! Great Reaction! If there is ever a choice between the music video and a live performance, ALWAYS ALWAYS choose the live performances for BABYMETAL! "Headbanger!" is a song about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday. The lyrics to this song are really good: "Now the time has come. I no longer hesitate. I hold my discount railway tickets tightly. To the east, to the west, to the south, to the north. Today also I rush to the very front of center stage. [...] With the legendary long black hair disordered and gorgeous, blooming crazily this flower will soon fruitlessly disappear. It'll never come back again and it's such a short time. I etch in my heart this special night of my fifteen." There's a couple things that get lost in the translation. They use an uncommon pronunciation for 15 "ichi-go", literally "one five" instead of the "jyuu-go" fifteen. They do this because "ichigo" is a homonym with "strawberry" as a way to emphasize the girl blooming and the fruit lyrics make more sense. There's much more but you get the idea. You're absolutely right that some stuff gets lost when translated.

Good one - and to Amy - welcome to Babymetal. There are many live versions of Headbanger and every one of them is worth seeing (they change them up all the time). Live at Legend 1997 (Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013) is always good, for an even older version from 2012 and the very first appearance of the Kami Band, live at Legend I. Another showing just how Yui and Moa could work the crowd is live at Budokan Black Night. Now you have seen the official video pick any of these and see why, good as the official videos are, we tell you to watch their live shows.

Welcome Amy! Everyone has been waiting with bated breath for your arrival. Note that no two Baby Metal songs are alike. There are pop tunes, metal tunes, solos. Some people like the versions that start with long band intros, some like solos by SU, the lead singer, some like their earlier work while others like their later work. In general the live versions are always better than the studio official vids. I look forward to your reaction.

I also think _Megitsune,_ _Ijime, Dame, Zettai,_ _Karate,_ and _The One_ are quite meaningful, even if they aren't particularly obscured in "deepness". I don't think it's always necessary in order to be metal. Consider _Kill 'Em All. Just how _deep_ is anything on that album? Plenty of metal bands have their share of songs that aren't really "deep". It doesn't stop them from possibly being meaningful.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 There are some of their older songs they haven't performed in quite a while, but they just did 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!!!' earlier this month at both Summer Sonic Festivals (Tokyo and Osaka). The lyrics for this one are actually pretty interesting. It's about a fifteen year old girl going to her first heavy concert, and what it meant to her. Many of their songs have meaningful lyrics, but 'Gimme Chocolate!!' was just designed to be catchy, so that one is an exception. As Su has confirmed in interviews, that song is about wanting chocolate, but being a little concerned about gaining weight. She has said that it has nothing to do with eating disorders, or any of the other interpretations floating around on the internet.
@0okamino5 жыл бұрын
I think the meaning behind "Gimme Chocolate" gets extrapolated, and that goes off the rails sometimes. :D

Always do the live versions I'd say. The studio versions are a bit over-produced and a little hollow in the production style compared to the raw energy of live. It would of course be great for all the people making suggestions to link or name a specific show. For headbanger I would have gone for Budokan Red Night, as it's a got a little bit of a legendary status around it :) For singing along look for the lyrics in romaji - these are the japanese words but spelt in English letters. That's great, glad you both enjoyed it! I'm actually glad you reacted to the MV first. Now you'll get the callback when you see neckbraces (which are in turn a reference to X-Japan's drummer Yoshiki) involved with BabyMetal. I agree that you should also watch live versions, but it doesn't have to be one or the other, it can be both. Despite all the clamoring about live performances, neither one is a replacement for the other. I think they're both important because the live gives you more of their energy, but the album version MVs tend to present a better close-up on their personality. Also, keep in mind that just because you've seen one performance of a song doesn't mean you've seen it all (even for just that song). :D I'd argue that there are more "deep lyrics" on BabyMetal's first album than there are on Metallica's first album. I don't think that necessarily takes away from or adds to the meaningfulness or metalness of either one, though. BabyMetal isn't meant to largely be "super cereal, you guys" anyway, but neither does that mean they're just shallow and on-the-nose.

I like this version of Headbanger because it portrays the fantasy of a 15-year old daughter of a middle-class family. In that role, Suzuka never leaves her bedroom. When she starts, it’s daytime and she fantasizes until night. I wonder if she had any idea we’d still be watching this video nearly a decade later or how many stages she would end up dancing on.

Gimme Chocolate is kinda a bad example of looking up the lyrics for.. you kind of have the impression it's just shallow meaningless stuff right now, but a lot of songs aren't like that at all. I would recommend searching youtube for "duane metal", on his channel he explains the lyrics to you in English (he's Japanese) Eg. for this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5-5cpiOobSLaJY (part 1, there are 5 parts explaining the lyrics) PS: I never understand why "everyone" has heard of kpop but not jpop, jpop has been around a LOT longer than kpop!! It's much more diverse and deep.. just knowing kpop is like going to Niagara Falls, finding a drinking fountain right next to it.. then wondering where this huge waterfall is supposed to be? Nobody in the west had really heard of kpop until about 10-12 years ago xD
