As someone who worked for an anime con for over 10 years, the true issue is as they already stated: parasocial. Nobody would act this way to voice/movie actors because they fear the unknown reaction they may have, but because the boys are goofy youtubers who delve into their own lives enough, the token, weird con-goer feels 1000x safer in their presence and are willing to forego some of those boundaries because of it.
@rumfordc2 жыл бұрын
in another video they mentioned this guy didn't even know who they are, he was just walking onto every stage he could. so his issue is _not_ parasocial. you see all the emotional comments section acting like they almost died? _that_ is a parasocial issue.

@moxxibekk2 жыл бұрын
@@rumfordc I can totally get that. However, regardless of the person, time and time again men DO invade personal space, and often do not take kindly to someone telling them its not ok (usually a woman) and it's well documented that it can and does lead 5o violence. So while I can agree and hope men can help with those situations, it would be unreasonable and dangerous to tell women that they should just "assume the best" as we do not currently have that luxury. I’m sorry but I feel like cons, having been going on for many years all over the world and covering many topics, should know better by now. I don’t think there’s an excuse for not providing even basic security for panels. I understand they can’t see every little scenario coming and can only prepare so much but it sounds like they weren’t even covering the absolute basics. I know you’re trying to give them a pass by saying they still don’t know how to deal with youtubers but it’s 2022 and KZbin isn’t new anymore, that shouldn’t be an excuse at this point. You have public figures hosting a panel for a large group of people, doesn’t matter if you don’t “understand” what they’re “famous” for, crowds of people are unpredictable and the presenters are being put in a vulnerable position. I think the con is absolutely lucky nothing happened to you guys and that you’re able to talk about it in a video and kind of play it off but that could have been a situation with a much more severe ending. As it was it’s definitely a scary situation that reflects poorly on the con and I’m sure would put a lot of other high profile public figures off from presenting and participating in it in the future. I don’t think it’s on you to have to provide your own security, I can definitely understand wanting to, I know a lot of public figures of a similar profile who do, but that should be an extra precaution not the main line of defence. This was a huge oversight in the cons part and denotes at best poor planning on their part and at worst greediness in not wanting to spend the revenue on providing a safe experience for everyone attending. I’m glad you’re all okay, handled it well, and can kind of laugh it off now and turn it into a story but it really reflects poorly on the cons planning and management as a whole and shouldn’t be brushed off lightly.

Exactly they wouldn't go around doing panels without their own security detail

Not that I was there or that I feel like we are friends, but it is weird feeling like you know someone as close or closer than a normal friend, and then y’know, them not knowing you exist.

Parasocial relationships are crazy. Even when you know to try and build a mental distance between you and the entertainer, stuff slips through. It's a weird, difficult problem.

Welcome back to England where we run onto a unwelcomed stage and say the most inappropriate questions to one and other sorry you guys didn't have a great time here in the UK. Maybe next time it will go a lot better for you guys.

The lack of security was just negligence on part of the con's organizers. It does not matter that that kind of incident had never happened before in the past. What matters is if it were reasonably forseeable that something like that could happen. The recent assault on Dave Chappelle at his concert is just a reminder of what kind of nutjobs there are out there and what they can do in a split second even with security there. Sometimes they are just harmless and sometimes they are not. You guys got lucky, but next time you may not be. If there is no adequate security, don't do the venue. Period.
