Our first veggie harvest!

This week we harvest our first veggies from the garden and even though its tiny, we're excited! I also try to trouble shoot whats going on with my plants being yellow.

I just weeded 3 rows of corn yesterday. I'm taking a break today 'cause things are achin' a bit. My zucchini is looking tough, but it did the same last year and we did get a few which is all we need. I need to revitalize my soil in some of the containers but I'll have to do some research on that. Your children always make me smile. You're doing such a great job mama.

When you caught your shirt on the door handle I cracked up! I have a knob on a lower kitchen cabinet that I catch my pockets on all the time! Grrrr Rhett is hilarious like his Momma!

Your property is so very nice. Maybe I wonder if your plants are slowly growing because this is the first season in that area and maybe the drip watering isn’t enough for certain plants. Curiouser and curiouser

I feel your pain in the garden. We bought 2 truck loads of great soil for our raised beds, had purchased 60 tomato plants, lots of pepper plants, okra, yellow squash, zucchini, several kinds of beans, peanuts, 36 strawberry plants, 3 blackberry bushes and 6 blueberry bushes. BUT before we planted our neighbor had offered to give us some 2 year old aged horse manure. We were so excited. My husband mixed the 2 truck loads of soil with the manure and then we planted all the above mentioned. Long story short. Tomatoes started curling and dying first and then everything followed. The aged manure was contaminated with Grazon a weed killer that will kill everything but grass. After our research and discovery I cried for several days. Slept very little and mourned my garden and the money that we had lost in the truck loads of soil and plants which was over 1,200.00 dollars. So after the grieving period we went and purchased 10 more tomato plants and some new soil. We won' t be having the harvest we had hoped for but God is good and I know He will bless those 10 plants so we can have a few fresh homegrown tomatoes this year. I've seen people have success getting rid of the grazon by planting corn. They didn't eat the corn that was produced but it healed the soil, it took up the toxins and they were able to grow beans right after with no issues.

Enjoyed the video! I like how you have your garden laid out. I’m new at gardening. My soil isn’t ideal… Mississippi red clay. We did amend the soil a little. It needs so much though, couldn’t do it all this year. Hoping to have the soil in great condition within a couple of years. Until then….. I’m a little worried about my tomato plants. Unfortunately, my pepper plants aren’t doing so hot. But, I’m learning and that may be the best harvest I get from the green this year. 😊

You could plant corn for the chickens. Were you going to add wood chips in the raised beds before adding the soil or just use soil?
