Injuries are part of the sport. Did the injury cost him the title? Maybe, but that stuff happens. Tom did really good on events he was presumed to drop points on, so he was in the driving seat. I think that mitch maybe slowed down at the end. Even without injury Tom was still favoured, and with the injury and second secured, i dont think he pushed his max. Maybe he would without the injury, but I dont think it would have mattered this year. Tom was too good this time. Next year will be an interesting rematch. Hopefully without any obvious injuries. But half the field probably had some sort of injury/strain/tear anyway. Thats just how the sport is.

By the time its shown on telly 8 months later, I have moved on. I suspect a PPV stream would have a 24hr viewing period so you can watch at you're convenience. This was also a good competition. It was unpredictable, positions were close until the end and to have 3 new pro strongmen mid pack is great, throw in Lucus Hatton and we may see a good few household names retire from Strongman in coming years.

WSMi is about grit and determination and every contender is carrying an injury, obviously it makes a difference but they are tough men and that's what it's about, no excuses just pure her Herculean gene. I think Tom very much like Thor is what I have in my mind when in envision strong man WSN needs to be a live stream as people would watch it. I know there are long waiting times between lifts and also events. This could be filled with archives, the overs 50"s masters and the lower weight classes. I think Brian has the right idea and format and I think WSN needs to be mindful of what happened in the " IFSA" Days, we don't want a division in our sport. I know we could fill the 02 arena and within a couple of years Wembley or a football club in the UK. The prize money sucks and it comes down to selling merchandise and strength couching the up and commers. The 3 most alpha sport recommission is the fastest man on earth, the Heavyweight UNIFIED champion and the biggest and most importantly the strongest man on earth. I love worlds but the stone off has to go, why not just have the top 2 of each group or maybe a medley of farmers, iinto, yolk then keg toss for height. I don't want to see strongman turn into cross fit or on the other side too heavy. A one day event is fine for Max so if it's over a few days it needs to be as not heavy but I don't want it to be the fastest strongman on earth. I honestly think Brian will take over as he actually wants the sport to grow and politics will not be used as previously mentioned. I know big z and Mariaz has a slightly better record but Brian for me is what strongman is about and I just loved watching him over the years, I will miss watching him compete but I wasn't bothered when Mariaz, Thor or big z retired but I really do miss watching him

They should live stream WSM and hold the event in December. TV rights remain it just becomes a live broadcast, everyone wins yes its more difficult production but its more than possible. Also you are right about every athlete needing to be perfect to challenge for the title, but its a fault of the points system. Id like to see an overhaul of the points to decathlon style to really reward the exceptional performances but WSM isnt going to make any changes like that anytime soon so the easiest solution is this: Have all 30 athletes compete for the title, no groups, after 12 events (usual group events) the top 10 athletes only progress to the "final" (if two or more are tied for 10th no tiebreaker just more in the final) Exceptional performance means a potential 29 points on others rather than 1 or 2 points due to placings out of 6 in a group. It would make athletes go for their maximum, it eliminates gentlemans agreements and conserving energy for the final because all the points gained would apply to the final standings, going some way to reward exceptional strength rather than tactical and doing the least possible strategy that frankly exploit the points system and groups.

Well to be honest, Mitch either tied or beat Tom in 3 of the events, Tom won the stones and even Smith said Tom looks like the clear winner of the stone before the event. It was not closer (which I think it would of if he had no hand injury) due to him not doing well in two of he events, it is a shame he had the injury but it is just one of those things. One of Toms approaches to the major tournaments is to be selective on what competitions was the potential of wear and tear is higher if you constantly competing so he is condition is fairly good.

To be fair event 1 was Hoopers best coming in, he is the best bar none in the yolk and he dominated the frame carry at the Arnold and has never had a grip issue. The torn calluses definitely cost him 6 points in event 1 and a couple of points in the DL. Mitch did great to tie Tom in the keg toss.Tom’s error in the shield carry cost him the title last year much like the torn calluses cost Mitch this year. They would essentially be adding revenue. Much like they did with selling different levels of tickets to this year's competition.

WSM is the anchor for all strongman comps. I reckon a lot of people became interested in the sport by watching it on TV way before there was even an internet (like me). I think they could do *something* online like a daily live recap podcast but as you mentioned TV contracts are still much more lucrative than streaming... Especially for a niche sport. While it's possible to just set up a static camera and stream (like the Iceland show) the quality is poor. Full streaming production is very costly and for a 5 day competition it would be outrageous. WSM is the top show because even people who know very little about strongman know about it. Because of TV. I'd love to watch it streaming as well but until those TV contracts are expired/renegotiated we'll have to refresh a spreadsheet and watch on ESPN.

Part of the game with Mitch, he lost points in the deadlift. Going into Atlas stones 4 points behind Tom just wasn’t gonna happen, was a great competition still.

Evan had the biggest win. He is now part of the exclusive group of strongman with a podium at WSM, Arnold Classic, Rogue, Shaw Classic. The World Muscle Power also was part of that list which ironically Big Z and Mariusz weren't able to win.

Is it Evan Simpleton you're talking about? He hasn't podiumed at Arnold Classic, Shaw Classic or Rogue Invitation.

@@RubbishGimpy I didn't mean combined. Only Tom Stoltman has done that although Hafthor and Mateusz likely will be joining him if he decides to become the first Pole to compete at the Shaw Classic.

usually your callouses go if you havent trained enough or you have trained too much..... they are debilitating when they do go even if it doesnt seem like a serious injury ... well done Tom i thin khe will chase the GOAT label now

Eddie said "you can see the tendon", which is impossible when the skin pulls off. I was a gymnast, happened to me every single week. It's exactly the same as when they scrape the skin off their shins in the deadlift. Painful, yes. Would it affect what you can do with your hands? Yes. Is it an injury? NO.
@LalasBrothers6 ай бұрын
Yeah, i was a bit sceptical too about "seeing the tendon" , but i guess we have to take his word for it.

@@LalasBrothers 🤣🤣 I didn't take his word for it when he said this would be an easy win... He was quite dismissive of Tom. I think hooper should tone the brashness down a notch. Thank you so much for your coverage of this great sport.

Its most likely the Dermis layer which covers the white hypodermis fatty layer. You can guess the layers on Mitchs hand. For the majority its top layer Epidermis, the Dermis is a clear skin covering the white Hypodermis fat layer. Only the deep cut at the base of his middle finger might be bad enough to see the Transverse Ligament. For this to happen, no layer of skin would be left. All would bleed and weep.

Mitch couldn't hold onto the bar. He had to go mixed grip as his hands were destroyed. His body was fine for 10+, he just couldn't hold on.

Which wouldn't have changed the overall result. Mitch could have done 100 reps on DL and Tom still would have won on points
@bronchoped6 ай бұрын
@walk-york it affected the first event obviously, it affected the axle clean as well. It's part of strongman. Tom won, mitchs hands failed. He will come back stronger

@@bronchoped Yep. If Mitch had smashed the first event, it's a different story. But hypotheticals are pretty useless, it's not what happened. And Tom was just so good this time, it's crazy.

@bronchoped6 ай бұрын
@espenstoro there is no hypothetical Tom won. Mitch messed his hands up. That's it. It's just lalas was coming up with some reason that wasn't true on the dl. The reason was there for them to find to. His grip failed due to wrecked hands, not because his dl was weak.

Happy Tom won, and would have been happy seeing Mitch or anyone else win. I don't have any stakes in who wins, but to everyone saying torn calluses aren't that bad of an injury; Mitch clearly lost points because of it. Anyone who thinks he can't do a 320kg frame (when he won the frame at the Arnold) and can't do more than 6 reps on the deadlift (he couldn't hold on to the bar) is nuts. There are varying severities to even torn calluses, and pain tolerance is different between people. If you can't bear with the pain, you can't output strength. Not saying Mitch would have beat Tom, because Tom won it fair and square, but the calluses definitely did effect Mitch.

The events in the final on paper were not Toms best events by far and he still won. That is ominous for the rest of the competitors.
@bp20416 ай бұрын
Mitch's hands contributed to him not doing as well as he could. That being said could he have won had he not injured his hands? Na, Luke even said Tom was training way harder for this WSM. This year Tom earned it
