Filipino American here. My experience visiting the Philippines in 2016, the 1st thing I noticed when landing in the airport is a big sign "It's more fun in the Philippines." I was there for 2 &1/2 weeks, and the experience I had in the short vacation changed my outlook in life for the good. Went back in 2018 in a different province, and really felt the beauty and nature of the Philippines. I really learned more about myself on this trip, that you can make life simple filled with positivity, and you don't need to keep up with the Jones's. Was planning to go back in 2020, but Covid happened. Hopefully end of 2020 or early 2021, the country opens up. The term it's more fun in the Philippines is true, but I would say it's more of "a journey that teaches you a lot, and you experience a lot more than what you've expected."

A foreigner visiting or even staying in the Philippines for an extended stay will NEVER have a sense of permanent despair while living in the Philippines. For that reason, it is easy for them to see the beauty of the country. In comparison, poor Filipinos will always feel hopelessness in their plight, thus making it hard to appreciate the country for what it is. Just my take.
@kawaiiafangirl3 жыл бұрын
@@beaglesrfun5896 True. I'm Filipino myself and I think that most Filipinos still have a colonial mentality when it comes to foreigners appreciating our country. The land and the people of the Philippines are beautiful but there are things such as poverty, lack of jobs, corruption, and a relatively high crime rate (for SEA and East Asian standards) that aren't beautiful. Jessica obviously has love for the Philippines and spent most of her life there so I'm not knocking her at all. However, I just know that Filipinos would support her videos more than our own kind but blame it on Filipinos not appreciating our own culture.

Mostly those Filipinos who doesn't know about how other country's culture and just see the good things (in their thoughts) are the one who are so keen in living the country. Things that are so rare in other countries which are so norms here in our country are people connection, positivity, more laid back life, kindness and superb hospitality. Although there are many negative issues here in our country, it's still not that much of a challenge compare to other countries.
@junxlopez59163 жыл бұрын
@James Henry Smith That's what we know since we have means to see it with our own eyes or have watched it over the internet or have learned about it from someone from those countries. But for poor Filipinos, those things often times will never learn about it or will never cross their minds. Since the only comparison that they are seeing is between their lives and the lives of visiting foreigners, that's why they feel hopeless and yearn to leave the country thinking that better life is out there.

Watching you guys gives me that typical Filipino conversation. I guess that's the effect of being immersed with our culture. Thank you for loving the PH.

It hurts to know you experienced those stereotypes in the Philippines, but I'm not surprised. I know what that feels like, as a Filipina growing up in the US. I'm glad to hear that it did not make you despise the Filipinos or the Philippines in its entirety. I absolutely LOVE listening to these stories.

@@zanetruesdale7263 are you generalizing the korean community as a whole, which would be inaccurate unless you have factual representation.

I was in Taegu, Korea for a year on my remote assignment in USAF. I had a great time and loved it there. Filipinos and Koreans have great, genuine affection for each other in my opinion, except basketball. In my case only good memories and sometimes sorrow for the loved one I lost.

I thought Jessica did good in leading the conversation. She asked questions and shifted to topics organically. it felt like they just having a converstaion and not like following and ticking off from prepared topics or questions. Kudos!
