*Pinakanapansin ko nung nakatira ako sa Korea* ay yung Korean media They only highlight negative things about the Ph like those poor people living in the slums, those obsessed kpop fans, "Kopino case"(reason why some Koreans think us filipinas are "easy to get") and crimes. while yung media natin shows Kpop, Kdramas, korean fashion and kbeauty products tho there were sometimes news about korean drug dealers/smugglers but yeah mostly good thing. so yeah MEDIA really plays a HUGE role here

I went to Daegu in 2016 and I found the place clean, quiet, and interesting. However, there was one time I was waiting in the bus station and a Korean male approached me trying to befriend me, but some tourist cautioned me not to talk to him because there are swindlers roaming around the place and I might be victimized. So you see, every country has its own issue, dirt, controversy... Koreans think they are privileged because of their popularity out of Kpop... they make fun of us because of our English accent but they come to the Philippines to be taught the language. We may have that accent but our English is as clear as crystal water.

Not crime related but I noticed that the very hot weather in the Philippines also discourages Koreans from visiting/living here. A good number of Koreans that do decide to live here (to study English for example) would prefer to do so in the colder regions like Baguio because the weather there is similar to Spring/Autumn in Korea.

I remember during my internship in Korea in 2017 and I had to promote PH tourism to the Korean market at a travel fair. There were a LOOOOT of questions about safety and security in PH and the Koreans mentioned that they're really scared. That was the time when there were a looot of happenings in the Philippines (the case of Jee Ick Joo, the shooting in Resorts World, the Martial Law in Mindanao, the case of the 3 Koreans who were killed). Tbh, I really didn't know how to respond to them especially when an old man went to our booth and kept telling people not to travel to the Philippines coz we kill Koreans and that PH is definitely not safe. is mean the ecomony in Philippines is falling adn 18 million people are accounted for extreme poverty like living with 1.25 dollars a day. It is still a developing country and GDP per capita is low ad infant mortality rate is very high. Also Phillippines got hella terror attacks, if you ask me which is more dangerous where litterially the whole far south is a no-go zone according to travel guides. sulu archipelago and the zamboanga peninsula are all considered extremely dangerous. since there is more poverty, more petty crimes. HOwever, I respect Phillippines i think its fine, and I respect them for fighting with us and the us on the korean war. IDk why some people in korea attack Phillippines and I have multiple phillipino friends here in Canada. I respect Phillippios and they are typically friendly people. Please just ignore the ignorant ones that talk trash cus we love you over here. @@johnsupremecuber705 The Philippines is primarily considered a newly industrialized country, which has an economy in transition from one based on agriculture to one based more on services and manufacturing. As of 2021, GDP by purchasing power parity was estimated to be at $1.47 trillion, the 18th in the world.[31] Primary exports include semiconductors and electronic products, transport equipment, garments, copper products, petroleum products, coconut oil, and fruits. Major trading partners include Japan, China, the United States, Singapore, South Korea, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Germany, Taiwan, and Thailand. The Philippines has been named as one of the Tiger Cub Economies together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. It is currently one of Asia's fastest growing economies. However, major problems remain, mainly having to do with alleviating the wide income and growth disparities between the country's different regions and socioeconomic classes, reducing corruption, and investing in the infrastructure necessary to ensure future growth.

I lived in Angeles City for most of the 80's, I was in the Air Force at Clark. We, (3TFW), went to Korea several times, seems like it was always in the winter too ! During my days at Clark there were several coup attempts, and the NPA was attacking, and threatening all Americans in the PI. My parents were very concerned because of the typical "end of the world" reporting they heard in American news reports. I lived off base but felt safe and secure during all of the bad acting/bad reporting that was going on. I always enjoyed my time in South Korea too, even though we faced a FAR larger threat there. Those years were the best of my life, I have not been back since 1990 , but long desperately for the friendly happy times I enjoyed there. It always broke my heart to leave the Philippines so I just stay here and adapt. THANKS for your video, it took me back to a happier time and place.

I once had an audio call with a Korean through HelloTalk. They were also concerned about safety especially in Manila. I said it depends on where in the metro you live, and they should probably stay in safe places if they wish to visit the city. It’s interesting to observe that just because of several incidents in the news, we quickly jump to conclusions that a place is dangerous to live on. Just because there’s a plane crash somewhere in the world doesn’t make airplanes dangerous.

If this is the rationale of how people should think...just wondering the sort of random shootings happening in the US almost every week. Guns going to wrong hands thus mass killings happening so often now yet I still won't qualify seeing the entire USA as a totally bad country. And it is not! This is a COMPLEX issue to tackle but getting really well informed I think is key in this situation! The Philippines has issues like every country but it needs to be viewed on all its sides...good and bad! Let us be educated travelers please.

Sad to know that korean news only shows the bad side about the Philippines. But in the Philippines, Filipinos love korea, love korean drama's, love their beauty products. Love the korean actors and actresses, also admiring the kpops. I think the media in korea didn't do a deeper research about the Philippines. But its just okay, not a big deal though.. By the way, thank you for loving the Philippines and you're a great speaker. And i love your content and the way how you explain it. God bless and keep safe always, unnie.

Our own media is also showing only the bad side of the Philippines too. She is right about the Philippines not being safe. At least not yet, but it's improving and improving. Let's not forget that Philippines started off as an almost Narco-state in 2016. It was far worse before that.

I appreciate Filipino English online tutors very much. without the help of them, learning English would be a big struggle for me. They are so professional and passionate that it is never tedious that I study English with them. I would like to have at least 4 hours' class wIth them whereas I have to spend much time helping my children with homework every day. Consequently, only 2 hours a day is available for me . I am looking forward to signing up a English academy In the Philippines after the pandemic .

Jessica you have said it well, you are brave enough to discuss these some negative social & political issues relative to public awareness what happened to both countries particularly the Philippines, it is better that there is someone like you that awakened people's consciousness especially your kababayans or your fellow citizens about tha true status of the Philippines as to safety issues. Your point is right Jessica that people should only be aware & conscious on the present situation of both countries whether it is good or bad coz a single or twice gruesome events didnt represented the country as whole whether it is worst or not in its safety & security, probably it's just remote incidents (how remote it is maybe 1 in a million incidents) I think the most important is just be extra careful & vigilant in whereever countries you go... Keep it up Jessica, we admire you coz you're a very strong & truthful person 🇰🇷🇵🇭💕💖

Great content. First of all, big hugs to you! It's true, there is still so much to hate in the Philippines, as corruption is rooted to the core and it will take a while to fix that. But there is also much to love. As 2nd, 3rd etc generation immigrant Filipinos all over the world also develop 'fear' of going back 'home', it is basically because such picture painted into the minds of other countries is what they see. So it is not only Koreans who are afraid. It is generally that if the comforts of one person is threatened, then that creates the reason. My children growing up in this western part certainly have views based on what they hear or read, but bringing them home for visits open their minds and open a wider view that there are more to love than hate (and my youngest even wants to live there). Hate is a choice I keep saying, because there is always a choice to not like it but looking for something to like. 😘

Hi Jessica! I'd just like to say that I really like your videos esp since you always try to make a good connection between the Filipino and Korean cultures (as I am a Filipino myself) so I'd really like it if you could possibly also make a video about Why *Foreigners* MIGHT be Afraid of Korea especially since there are a LOT of s3xual harrassment/assault cases that have been reported (and even underreported) in the country, esp for foreign women there. I really hope you can share your insight to this because I'd love to hear it!! (because when i knew of this, i was legit scared and now i dont want to go to Korea anymore even if it was one of my dream destinations to go to ☹) i know all countries have their dark sides but i never heard so much testimonies and personal experiences being shared about how they were s3xually harassed in SK :((

As a human, I do believe that every country has its own pros and cons. We can't really find a country that is 'perfect' in any way. The Philippines has its own bad issues and characteristics but there is always goodness if you look in the other side. As a Filipino, I don't really feel safe in my own country but I do not base my judgment by a mere feeling. I still have doubts but feel assured at the same time. And like what Ate Jessica said, it's a case by case basis. And I think people are just being cautious. It is good to be careful but also be sure that you know facts and don't base your judgment by just your feelings or other people's opinion.
