I’m currently in the planning phase for a similar barn in an L shape here in Maryland. Yours is absolutely gorgeous! Can I ask what material you used for your dry lot? I also love the look of the white paint with black trim. How has it held up? Do you find your white exterior stays relatively clean or do the lower portions of the walls get splashed/muddy?

The dry lot is a chips and dust mix. It works pretty well. But we are getting ready to cover it with a layer of stone dust this spring. Because our animals are minis, the chips and dust still get stuck in their hooves a lot.

The lower walls don’t get dirty unless they poop on them, which they do every so often. Other than that, they tend to chew in the winter when they’re more bored and the barn now has its fair share of chew marks. It certainly doesn’t look as pretty anymore.

how did you get to choose the colors of the barn

Beautiful! How difficult is it to get permits or does the builder obtain permits for you?
@SugarMapleFarmhouse2 жыл бұрын
We didn’t have to get a construction permit because the barn rests on piers in the ground and just the posts. We just had to get a land permit (basically they just made us get that because they can). The only frustrating thing is that the township did want an architect stamp in the drawing schematics and that cost extra money. We didn’t know about it ahead of time and I think it cost an extra $1000. Yikes!

Can I ask what kind of wood you used for the fencing?
@SugarMapleFarmhouse3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s treated cedar. Like the posts on the barn.

How much did it cost? Its gorgeous!
@SugarMapleFarmhouse3 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t cheap. Partially because of shipping through. It was a quarter of the cost, and I had it built differently than most shedrows too because it has a center aisle area.

How much did it cost and sorry if you said it in the vid I’m extremely tired and I don’t pay attention a lot when I am tired also new subscriber!!!!
@SugarMapleFarmhouse2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t say. It was fairly costly for everything. We had no infrastructure for any of this. The barn itself I believe was $30k. Because we are fairly far from horizon structures, we end up paying a lot with shipping then too. The hard scape, electrical, water line and fencing were all extra costs on top of that. Depending on where you are, you might be close to someone who builds these. I believe HS has a facility located in PA and West Virginia now? Since this time, I’ve also found another builder near us that we’ve used for some smaller run in shelters because we have no trees back there. They were much more affordable.

Looks amazing! What company did you use and roughly how much was this all in? We are looking for something very similar.
@SugarMapleFarmhouse4 жыл бұрын
We used Horizon Structures. I won't lie. All in it was expensive and we will be paying it off for probably about two years. Like buying a tiny home. But 1/4 of the cost was shipping. I would recommend looking for people in your area who do similar work and see if you can cut down on that cost. I've just bought other buildings from them before and wanted them all to be similar and love how well-made they are.

Hi there! I know other's have already asked this, so sorry to ask again, but do you mind sharing the cost? Even a ball park? Was it around $50k, $70k, $100k? We are looking at something very similar as yours. I LOVE YOUR BARN! We would also need to have this shipped since we are in TN. We do have a huge Amish community around us, but no one builds barns like these with this much detail and thought behind horse care. No worries if you don't want to be specific on the price ;)

The company I used is Horizon Structure and they build them in Penn and I think they might have a facility in Tennessee too. We had this shipped. If you would like to email me I can go into detail on the price more.

Why was it better for you to have it built custom offsite and then delivered rather than hiring to build it onsite?
@SugarMapleFarmhouse2 жыл бұрын
We had worked with the off-site people previously on out chicken coop and liked the quality. The difference between having it built on site and off site was actually a little bit of money. I also have a contractor that I work with here on projects that I love, but he is chronically behind schedule. I needed this by the first week of December in order to ideal beat the cold winter temps. I honestly didn't trust him enough to actually stick to that schedule whereas I knew that the Amish builders would.
