I'm proud of my sister's. I don't understand why they hate Sha'carri so much, even other Black women dislike her. She's faced so much adversity and still accomplished so much at only 22. She has a great sense of style, I get Flo Jo vibes. If she just came on scene without a personality or vibrant colors it would be a boring event, she adds flavor. You don't have a choice but to acknowledge her presence as a fan or Superfan (hater). I have deep respect and love for all of the Black women of track and field from Jamaica and the United States and the Black women gymnasts. They are the only reason I watch the Olympics. Everything that we do is an op-ed because everyone thinks they can tell us how to be, what to wear and how to be present. I ran track at a Louisiana college and I got "random" drug tested every meet since I was from the Caribbean so of course I was getting high, fun fact never tried it. This young woman is living her life and learning her path. Great commentary and thanks for bringing this to my attention. At 6ft 1 inch tall I get side eye if I wear color, or heels or a short skirt. I apparently need to learn to "blend in". In my mid-40s now I say F-that, bring the oranges, the reds and yellows. I work out every damn day you bet I will show up and show out. I will make you uncomfortable, deal with it.

This has nothing to do with humbling black women/girls and more so to do with the unsportsmanlike conduct of Sha'Carri. I would like to say the media had a lot to do with her downfall especially black male media outlets. At every chance they got to take a dig at her they did. When she won they called her man, when she lost they called a mad bitter black woman. These black men are soooo pathetic. Even when she came in second place to Elaine Thompson they said it wasn’t enough. These black men hate to see black women accomplishing goals in life. They want to see black women down and out. So does the general white media. Sha’Carri Richardson being a confident outspoken black woman was too much for them to handle. They still have her name in their mouths mocking her because they hate to see black women whom they deem less than winning in life. She had to fail so their narrative of black women being lower than hell could continue. The average person whose ears and eyes can see the unnecessary animosity.

Sha'Carri makes herself out to be the villain, but cannot handle what comes with that. When the blowback comes, she and her team make her out to be the victim. It's funny that no one discusses how Sha'Carri treats the other Black women in her sport and the disrespectful things she has said about them. It's funny that you mention Shelly, the same woman whose age Sha'Carri made fun of. Where were you when Sha'Carri was giving thumbs up to culturally insensitive statements about Jamaicans? Where were you when Sha'Carri was taking potshots at Gabby Thomas, another Black woman? Where were you when she implied that the US women's track team, mostly comprised of Black women, would accomplish nothing because she was not on the team? When you go out of your way to disrespect the most decorated woman in all of T&F-Allyson Felix- you know there is a problem. Sha'Carri has accomplished absolutely nothing at the professional level; not one medal, not one title, yet continues to disrespect those who have; that's the story.
@TBoogie762 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This whole video was rubbish. Not one time did she mention any of the fruit and actions of this girl. This is another woman pushing a narrative that black women should not be held accountable for their actions. Sha'Carrari's behavior is disgusting and classless and disrespectful and a she's a terrible sportsman. And, I thought that from day one but people are just now actually seeing it as she keeps revealing her true self. Humility will always take you further than any skill and talent and that Sha'carri severely lacks. Although words of wisdom have been given to her, she continually rejects it and it is people like this that enable her disgusting behavior under the guise of black girl hate. Before she posted this video, did she ever take the time to think that no one else is spoken about in this manner because no one else has the behavior of Sha'carri? I'm so tired of the excuses but I've come to the conclusion that most people who support her have the same type of spirit as her. And, we live in a world where wrong is called right and right is called wrong...smh
@nessa86972 жыл бұрын
Why is it either/or instead of both/and? People can ALSO have a conversation about how Sha’Carri has been mistreated in media, including social media. White supremacy and anti-blackness is embedded in our systems in the U.S. So, it would be misleading to comment as if she's not impacted by it. To talk about misogynoir does not invalidate your opinion. It's not "either/or." The interesting thing is there has been a lot of stories that have been extremely nasty and negative about her, esp. ones on social media. The majority of voices are not talking about her experiences and society's expectations of her as a Black woman in the U.S. But some people lack empathy. I hope our comments lead to a broader conversation. Take care.
@meloran25712 жыл бұрын
This whole comment section is sad. They're really in here trying to justify this woman's destructive behavior. There is a reason why her teammates and others in her circle don't mention her, or try to remain neutral with their comments about her. They know.
@sherwood99172 жыл бұрын
@@nessa8697 If it's not "either/or", let's also focus on how Sha'Carri treats her fellow Black competitors, the people who are always on the receiving end of her disrespect. I am sure that video is not forthcoming because it challenges the narrative of Sha'Carri as the victim.
@sherwood99172 жыл бұрын
@@meloran2571 The thing is that a lot of them don't follow T&F, don't know what really happens, and only latch on to the "Sha'Carri the victim" story that her PR people shovel to the media to distract from her on-the-track failures.

I agree with most of what you've said but some important points are missing. I believe the shade towards the Jamaican competitors and their perceived poverty really rubbed people the wrong way. This is such a good video, truly. I think society has an OBSESSION with making sure women NEVER know or reach their full potential. It’s the same for white women, most are raised to make sure they are self evasive and they shrink themselves in relationships. But we’re not here to talk about white women… For black women and non-men, I think most people from the other demographics just DO NOT understand self-confidence. They mistake it for arrogance, because that’s all they can experience. Arrogance in the sense of over compensating to mask how truly insecure they feel. This attitude originated from men and a lot of women have copied it and also tear women down when they fail as well. It’s a way of saying “HAHA LOSER YOU’RE HUMAN JUST LIKE ME!”

When you're arrogant, you had better be great because if you're aren't you will be quickly humbled when you fall. This is not just the case with Sha'Carri, it's also true for other athletes or celebrities. In her most recent interview where she came in 5th, she was mean to the media, but when she wins she's for all the attention. She's an attention seeker and she's still getting attention, it's just not the attention she wants - you can't have it both ways. Sometimes people need to be broken down in order for them to rise again with the right spirit and attitude. Sha'Carri thought she was Flo-Jo and she was far from it, but even Flo-Jo's attitude was one to be admired.

If people are so obsessed with humbling bw then I wonder why these people chose one bw out of all the other competitors in the sport. This individual has every right to be herself, and people watching her actions have every right to like or not like her. Too many black women look at every situation and think how can I narrate this into being a victim. This is competitive sport and viewers are expecting you to perform. If you're not performing but doing everything including disrespecting others publicly, don't cry victim when you're hated. People always want to tear visually loud people down... in school (even though it's not in the dress code) teachers were always trying to get me to take off my makeup, saying it was distracting and I'm clearly not focusing on my studies. I was wearing the same amount of makeup as everyone else, mine was just loud. Sparing half an hour in the morning to put on two toned eyeshadow is NOT why I was failing school. I was depressed, and having what little colour I could while having to wear the uniform was the one thing that brought joy to my day. When you're visually loud your mistakes come down on you 10 times as hard. All the other girls at school didn't get told to take off their makeup for their bad performance, because they weren't standing out. It continues to this day. You trip in public as a visually loud person and people laugh twice as hard. You misspeak and people judge twice as harshly. People want to see unique people fail.

I have a somewhat frequented IG Makeup Pge, and best believe you get the vibe that these ppl want you to be PERPETUALLY HUMBLE!! And self deprecating (but I don’t play that) I’m the type where I don’t do what I’m “expected” to do… So regardless I pump myself up! I compliment my own SHIZ!! If I don’t who will? Ya know 🤷🏽♀️ I’m sure it bothers some ppl…it’s fckn weird. But I’ll never relent! And I’ve been watching this show ZOO! Since all these animals are acting bucks wild out here…they’re probably taking the planet back; n I don’t blame em 😩

i’m late to the party, but i never could understand this…why people made fun of her appearance or the way she speaks boldly and confidently of herself….she reminds me of my cousins and sisters growing up. i’ll keep cheering for her. love everything about your look! hair, make up, body, it’s giving!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥

I came here for my read. I was one who thought how much people were defending her for smoking weed was stupid. Rules are rules. So when she went on to lose after everyone made such a big deal about her deserving special treatment I was glad all those folks could now be quiet. now I'm a sit here and get this scolding. Let's GOOOO!!

okay, after watching the video I think we just disagree on this one. I don't follow her enough to even know that all these negative things were being said about her, but a part of growth is experiencing how others experience us, young Black woman or not.

we are self depreciating because everyone picks us apart
