Mercedes never lost their touch. They just lost a capability to spend 500 million more than any other team.
@mjv97
@mjv97 Ай бұрын
That’s certainly a bit of it, but I think the bigger issue is that the Mercedes powertrain was massively better than the others and the Merc customers (McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams) were so much worse that it looked like Mercedes had a quality chassis. McLaren has passed and Aston Martin has caught Merc in chassis development. While Honda and Ferrari closed the gap on the powertrain with quality chassis.

they finished 3rd and 2nd in these regs. This year probably gonna be worse but they're not worse during these regs than RB were between 2014-2016.

Yeah I agree. They never had the touch. They just had an engine that was 3sec quicker than anyone else. Without that massive over speed they'd look like Ferrari-strategy-clowns all the time. But because they were so much faster they didn't need to bother neither with stray nor with aero. Now it shows that teams like RB, AM and Fezza are just better teams... As teams.
@thecompanioncube4211

@@daarom3472 finishing position doesn't tell full story. Redbull were down bad coz of painfully underperforming Renault engine. Redbull engineers did everything that they can on chasis, suspension, pitstops and on track strategy side to minimize the penalty of that power unit, and when everything was optimised, they ditched Renault for Honda and ushered in a dominant era where they have pretty much perfected every aspect of race weekend. Merc has full control over every inch of their car and they are down in rut with everything all at once. Engine performance is still okay I think, but chassis, suspension, strategies, pitstops... it's almost shameful their fall from the top as it highlighted their dependence on huge PU advantage and ability to spend so much money to get chasis and suspension right, while on track they didn't need to get the operational side perfect as they were so ahead. 2022, 2023 look like they performed okay, but Redbull had like double the points that they had last year. Despite being so far ahead, Redbull still won the fastest pitstop championship by showing consistent perfection, their big brain Hannah is so good at strategies and so on. RB car is good, but the whole team was and is like a monster

That terrible chicane is solely because there is absolutely 0 space for runoff area at the corner turning into the back straight so that corner HAS to be low speed. I never stopped believing that Danny Ric would definitely make a comeback... Few races ago i might've seemed delusional, and I might've been as well. But Chinese GP showef glimpse of Danny Ric's shine, but, Miami GP SQ 2024 had his comeback on a full-on display!!! What a comeback. I hope he uses this momentum to buildup, and prove himself and establish his place, especially when Yuki is having hard time, Danny needs to show that he is available to pick up the pieces of his teammate is not at his best. Yuki has already proven himself and he'll get some seat thanx to his performance and Honda association. But for Danny Ric, this is his only golden chance to prove it and be consistent at it putting the VcaRB in Q3, for the rest of the season, and may be score few points when he is at it, with his incredible racecraft that he can harness, now that he seems to have regained his confidence behind the wheel

I could tell that Ricciardo was pretty much on form since Australia, but people didn’t believe me because they _only see the result, and not the overall performance._ 🇦🇺His quali lap in Australia was good, but he made a small but costly mistake which invalidated that lap (weekend ruined). 🇯🇵In Japan he had half the practice time of Yuki and still qualified right behind him, then he was involved in a racing incident (weekend ruined). 🇨🇳Ricciardo outperformed Yuki in China the whole time and was close to the points but then Stroll happened (weekend ruined). He’s been mostly performing at the right level FOR WEEKS now, people who only focused on the results are blind to this, but I wasn’t surprised _at all_ to see Ricciardo do this well today🤷‍♂️

I say it a lot. Toto never built a team, much less a championship. He bought into one that was on the rise. He then got gifted the most dominant engine ever and Lewis Hamilton in his prime. They had such an advantage they had to turn the engine down to keep F1 from changing rules. Then, when they had bad strategy or a bad pit stop, they would turn on party mode to make up for it. They never had to work for that extra 10th, like everyone else. Now they are reaping what they had sewn. Bad strategy, bad concept with an average engine puts you in the midfield.

Honestly, for Mercedes, I really hope they don’t push Kimi too fast. I think if they were to be intelligent, they would bring back Bottas for a year or two at Mercedes allow Kimi to get experience at Williams and use Bottas as their test, subject, guinea pig to try and get better because they already know him and it’s not like they’re throwing a complete unknown at themselves and given how much of a dumpster fire they are. Totally agree. I've been saying that Merc should give VB a couple of years (not just a 1 year, maybe another, like he had before), and keep Kimi in F2 next year and hopefully he'll prove himself thoroughly. Then a year somewhere like Williams where he won't be expected to shine to learn the differences between F1 & 2 (and some tracks which will be new to him). Assuming all goes well, he'll take over Bottas's car. I'm thinking that VB will retire from F1 after that. I don't think he's quite ready to go now, so he'd take a two year deal with Merc without hesitating - much.

F1 is an absolute shark tank, if Kimi comes in to Merc now with very little experience and isn't somehow magically instantly quick, everyone will immediately jump on him and say he is overrated and should lose his seat. Even when Max came in after only 1 year in F3, he was not amazing overall (remember the 'crashstappen' days?), and the only reason he didn't get dropped was because RBR believed in him. I wonder if there is an issue with Merc's data models and simulation technology. They defended the zero-side pods based on data and simulations even when track performance showed it was wrong. This year the car setup has been so inconsistent and they are having to dig out of hole each race weekend.

I missed the commentary on the chicane. I had assumed that since there is no run off area on the turn coming onto the long back straight, that the chicane is there to get the corner entry speed low enough that no one dies going in to the wall there (where everyone was white walking their tires).

Seems like the soft tires are a no go this weekend considering most drivers had better or similar times on the mediums with Norris having a full second difference between the 2. I really enjoy the chicane bit on the games to be fair - make up loads of time swinging the back end through it. I get that it's a bit twisty, but it's good for setting up overtakes on the straight given it's technicality. Mind you I quite enjoy the Miami circuit anyways, which is seemingly a hot take in and of itself these days

What a comeback!!! Was it really the chassis which had some real but intangible issue with it (in terms of deiver feel), or was it just placebo effect. As long as Danny Ric makes a successful comeback and keeps it consistent, I'm all in!! But for Danny Ric, this is his only golden chance to prove it and be consistent at it putting the VcaRB in Q3, for the rest of the season, and may be score few points when he is at it, with his incredible racecraft that he can harness, now that he seems to have regained his confidence behind the wheel #Newey-Alonso-Honda_combo for 2026 🤞

Ppl need to remember the beast that was the Mighty Mercedes of the hybrid era was already in place before Toto got there. Once the team started losing key personnel, they have been going downward. Engineering Chief Costa. Cowell (this one was especially brutal) and Hodgkinson from Brixworth. The once infallible strategies lessened significantly after Vowles left.

Ironic the more Mercedes listened to Lewis on the development direction, the worse the car has gotten… I honestly wish they would’ve held their ground with the original zero pod concept and just continued to develop that. I feel like this year’s anti dive suspension set up would’ve worked very well for the W13.

They look like super confused team scrambling to find answers from any direction. @@christosjoseph7409 the down wash serves a purpose but it’s mainly to stabilize/optimize the aero flow over the top floor edge to get around the inherent problems introduced by having sidepods in general. The biggest reason for sidepods is actually cooling so if you can get around that issue then side pods aren’t necessarily needed. You need a good floor design to make the zero pod work but they didn’t necessarily have that. They actually tried to explain this to their fans but everyone was certain it must be the thingy that makes the car look different.
