You can have everything a hospital has in your medical kit. Just visit a doctor that sails and he will fix you up. I did a whole TV show about this with such a doctor. Of course you need to get the training to use it all from making casts and setting broken bones to using needles etc... If one so called doctor will not give you an Epipen then go to another doctor...

Wibble Wobble I’m not sure if you’re implying Lenny had whooping cough and they should’ve vaccinated him from it.....but croup is not the same as whooping cough at all. Croup is a virus that kids can catch anytime, it’s not preventable with any vaccine at all. It doesn’t really have any antibiotic, just keep a fever down and take warm showers to clean your lungs and lots of cool fresh air at night. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a developed country or not, croup is very common in kids.

I'm a Toronto paramedic who lost my ability to work after 16 years due to PTSD caused by the dead babies and kids I've had to deal with so I didn't think I'd be able to watch this episode, but I'm glad I did and am delighted to see how healthy and happy the whole family is now. Wow scary. Must be a great relief to finally work out what was going on with Lenny. Hopefully he'll grow out of it as fast as he grew into it. That’s one thing I wouldn’t risk. I have a 2 year old. My wife would never sail with a baby. Sailing already has its inherent risk but adding a baby to that mix is not worth it.

Lenny is a beautiful child and kids are a huge responsibilty. keep them well, fill them with knowledge and experiences, then teach them and pay for college. I STARTeD 34 YEARS AGO AND I am still hanging in there. 6 months after our oldest was born we discovered he had asthma, induced by allergies; also induced by a viral or bacterial infection. Many trips to the EU for breathing treatments and epinephrine injections. It was often quite scary. Our second son also has this type of asthma but was unusually happy which made the bad things tolerable. Fortunately my daughter was asthma free. N ow, my sons still sometimes get asthma but not as badly, and no hospital visits. The oldest has a black belt in Kung Fu and will soon also have a black belt in Arnis. my younger son eared an MA in Japanese Linguitics at the Univ of Hawaii and still lives there working for a non-profit company ( he also has BA from Berkeley, like dad but his major was Japanese Language and Culture and he graduated with high honors) , he loves long free style ocean swims and plans to begin spear fishing soon. He has not found the right girl yet but is looking. He looks like you, Reiley. Raising kids can be scary, frustrating and tiring but your efforts can often end in a positive way. like sailing, you may have a few cloudy days but also many sunny days. Hang in there and keep up the adventure,It has only just begun!!!!!!

I remember when my 3 year old had his first allergic reaction and it was so scary, I'm surprised a doctor wouldnt prescribe you an epi pen for him when you asked with being at sea since anyone regardless of family history can develop an allergy. I'm glad that if it was going to happen it happened when you had easy access to doctors.

I’ve have a fair few severe allergies but just want to let you know that as long you you are prepared and safe you don’t need to worry about Lenny boat I’m sure it is worrying you deep down my advice is that I also developed allergies when I was his age and neither of my parents or other family members have allergies. Mine started at 6 months and like Lenny they got worse over time. It’s so important to get prick gets tests and as many allergies tests as you can so you know all your risk factors, it is both possible to grow out of or develop worse allergies to things over time so regular testing helps. Epi Pens are so important and you can have up to three, anti histamines when he’s older or a regular daily dose helps. As he gets older he will be able to communicate better to you, as you know when you have a reaction coming in as it has a certain feel which if you know your reaction is getting worse you can let someone know you need help ASAP. I do hope Lenny grows out of allergies as I have a with my milk and wheat allergy however I have a very severe nut and sea food allergy that gets worse every time I have a reaction so it’s important to stay stafe with food like if I’m unsure I can tell by smelling or having a small amount and waiting before I eat to see if I may react as a small reaction vs eating the whole thing at once can be life or death to me now. However my allergies don’t hold me back I’ve traveled all round the world and I even work in a the food industry trade now, it’s just a case of staying safe so I can live my beautiful life 😌 sorry if that we long just want to say how much I love you guys and have been around since the beginning! I wish I could subscribe to your Patreon but unfortunately corona virus has left me stuck unemployed and I don’t know when the next wage will come in, your guys videos have been a light in these uncertain times for me ! So happy to see you guys back at home on the boat, stay safe, much love.

Glad the boy is ok. So here's a thing. I work in emergency medicine, more specifically I work on an ambulance. One of the things that I don't mind hearing and borderline enjoy is a crying baby. It means their airway is open and they are breathing. When I show up to a pediatric call involving a breathing problem I get nervous. Something else to consider you may be able to purchase epinephrine in a vile and draw it up yourself in a syringe. While Epi-pens are easy to use they can be hazardous and the over all cost has increased by about 400% in recent years. I recommend contacting your pediatrician if you need further information. Hope you have smooth sailing ahead and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

I'm a German paramedic and I'm always so releaved when I hear baby's and kids cry,the second we go in a house. Every parent always say they're hurting and crying so much and I say yes that's a really sighn.if they wouldn't bother would be really bad. A view times( luckily 4/5 times)that wasn't the case but my autopilot got on immediately.Oh and And car crashes that involve kids if they are really badly hurt.

Former US Paramedic here. Since you’ll be sailing with Lenny definitely stock up on the Epi pens. There’s unfortunately a good chance he’ll ingest whatever triggered this again. Epi pens 1) can malfunction and 2) in bad cases can require multiple doses over time. Also stock up on Benadryl aka diphenhydramine. Benadryl is a first line treatment for allergic reaction and may effectively treat a future allergic reaction sufficiently so you don’t require the epinephrine. Benadryl is cheap and over the counter, as you know epi is not. All the best! -W

Elena you will need to read every food label you have from now on. Cross contamination is what you need to watch out for. Many foods produced in facilities that may contain tree nuts or peanuts. Also be aware of how many products that have sesame or sesame oil. Eating out is another challenge, having the conversation about allergens etc with everyone at the restaurant is tough but essential. The epi is good but not a 100% guarantee. God Bless and best of luck.

So sorry to hear that Lenny has such a serious allergy. They build up easy when you eat every day for example peanuts in cereal. Rotation eating , could help to not develop more allergies. We are only aloud to give our son after 4 days the same ingredients as on day 1. Stay healthy

So very glad you were on land to find out Lenny has this serious allergy. Sometimes a little luck is worth everything you hold dear. Our daughter had trouble with her ears, lot's of screaming when she was less than 1 year old. Made it to land and hospital to figure that one out. Sometimes one needs to be a doctor and a captain. Vaga looks fantastic, she will sail far easier as well. Lenny is one lucky boy to have such great and loving parents...All the best to you...Cheers from Seattle.

Been a silent watcher for a few months now and really enjoy the positivity....of course I know this is not all the time but the feeling that comes across makes my day everytime you post..:) our son has similar allergies to yours and we found it out while he was having a play in our spa..luckily not quite as severe as your son....only vomit...10 years later and continuous prick tests later the only one left is the peanut allergy. So keep testing to make sure you keep on top of the changes...good luck and keep posting and let the rest of us enjoy small snippets of your life and dream.

Epipen... Some investor jerk bought the patent for Epipens a few years ago. He instantly raised the price about 1000 times and thought everyone would have to pay for it. He only had a patent on the convenient delivery device, not on the meds inside it. Within a month, someone had a new device that cost less than the original Epipen, even if it wasn't quite as easy to use. The investor jerk had to compete with the new price. I love the almost instant karma that capitalism can provide when politicians don't protect businesses in quid-pro-quo (cronyism).

Don't mean to freak you out but if you have to take him to the hospital again please don't let him play on that floor. I work in a hospital and I can tell you with 100% certainty that those floors are crawling with germs, really really awful ones like MRSA, CRE, VRE, etc. Keep that cute kid off the hospital floor. Take care.

A bit over reacted .. but yes schools, supermarkets, and hospitals are not the cleanest places. I walk bare foot almost any where and I wonder how much can you pick up. There are horrible stories.. but still a cleaned floor you can walk on . Like Lenny does.

Me too bud :( We found out I was allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame (just like Lenny!) when I was 4 years old. But now, 14 years later, I'm finally growing out of them! I just want to let you know that right now it seems scary, especially because Lenny is so young, but reading ingredients and telling servers about his allergies will soon become second nature. Did you do anything to “grow out of it?” My son was diagnosed with a tree nut allergy a few months ago, when he was 4. This gives me some hope.

sara H I think it was just time. There was a point where the doctor suggested I "challenge" my peanut allergy, which is basically eating tiny pieces of peanut while at the hospital. Apparently that helps to get the immune system accustomed to the peanuts and the allergy could potentially disappear. I did not challenge my peanut allergy, but that may be an option in the future for your son. For my tree nut allergy, it was just time. I got skin tests like Lenny did in the video every couple years and eventually, I stopped reacting to certain nuts. I hope this helps you and I wish you all the best.

sloan melchiorre I grew out of my almond allergy at around 16 I think. My peanut allergy has definitely gotten less severe, but I am not 100% sure if I'm grown out of it yet. So I never actually challenged my peanut allergy. When the doctor suggested it, I was around 14 I think. Eating peanuts was a really scary concept to me at that point, especially because I had lived my whole life being told to never eat them. So I don't know exactly what challenging an allergy feel like. Sorry, I hope this help you out a bit. Good luck with your allergies!

I've been allergic to nuts since I was a baby, however I never experienced anaphylaxis until I was 12. What made it worse was that I had the reaction 5 hours later than the time I consumed the food which was quite strange. It was a very scary time and I had to stay in the hospital overnight. In my situation, I was very lucky to be able to communicate my symptoms. I'd be in quite a state if I were you since babies can't tell you what's wrong. A truly scary moment and I'm happy that he's okay and that this didn't happen at sea. Keep safe.
