I just love your channel! I’m new to gardening at 64, better late than never. I watched your first garden tour and was so inspired I drew a plan of it, coloring in the plants for my notebook! Unfortunately my new hobby has been cut short. Turns out my new garden bed has poison Ivy and I’ve had it head to toe for four weeks after two different dr visits. I was having more fun! Now I need hip waders to go out in it again. Sprayed once with industrial strength vinegar. The weeds lol so I’m buying the big guns toxic stuff tomorrow for my husband to spray. I have missed it so much. Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring garden! Mary in TN 7b

Hi, I just found your channel and am enjoying it. I'm surprised that you don't have David Austin's Princess Alexandra of Kent. My absolute favorite rose (I don't have anywhere near as many as you, I rent, just wait until I have a yard, lol). Beautiful large blooms in a gorgeous pink. I started watching because I've developed a love of hydrangeas this year. Will definitely check out more of your videos.

Love what you have done in a short time! Found you searching for zone 5 gardens. Your channel will do well for us cold weather gardeners that deal with heavy deer pressure with no fence. You 2 are great on camera already :) I love roses and hydrangea too, but this year the deer and babies pruned all my paniculatas into trees and my macs are just starting to releaf (normally bloomstruck is very floriferous, twist and shout/let's dance blooms depend on how cold winter was). I spray w/ liquid fence and drape netting, but w/ all the rain, the deer still come. Tried the systemic Repellex and the deer still eat. I tried bobbex too and that seems to be helping. Would love to hear what's deer resistant for you- maybe do an episode on it? We are trying to grow plants for screening. Viburnum and rose of sharon get eaten when small. Just bought a calycanthus aphrodite (fragrant wine colored magnolia like blooms) and crossing fingers they won't eat it. We were planning to get elderberrry because they look so pretty when mature- the black lace and instant karma, but saw yours get eaten. Would you rec against elderberry? I could keep going, but keep up the great content!❤
@growformegardening
@growformegardening Жыл бұрын
thank you so much for watching! We have had mixed results with our deer defenses. They did eat on the elderberry and for some reason they only nibble the quick fire hydrangeas and leave everything else alone. It's very strange. We have tried the liquid fence and some other sprays but again it was mixed.

Christopher, I agree with you about the Pinky Winky. I have them throughout my garden and prefer them to all the others that I have. If I could find more I would take out some of the newer varieties and stick with Pinky Winky. They hold their blooms upright, it's great for pollinators because they are an open type panicle and they just have an elegant appearance.

Forgot to mention that next year you should try the new Proven Sweet Caroline Upside climbing sweet potato vine. I tried a few of the black coffee. Using one of Proven Winners photos as inspiration, I have a 5 foot “ tree” on a teepee trellis in a pot. I also planted one that has climbing up a gutter. I just wrapped cooking twine around the gutter. The vines are bushy and vigorous. They do trail too.

We were fortunate enough to be asked to participate in our local garden tour. I have to say, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re in southern Illinois, zone 6a. Our tour was both Friday evening and Saturday morning in late June. We would do it again in a heartbeat. As for my favorite perennial, the Helen von Stein lambs ear…no blooms! It adds that touch of blue/gray to the garden. You’ve done a fabulous job on your gardens!

Love your gardens and videos. Congratulations on your first of many garden tours. I appreciate that you plant and maintain your gardens. My favorite annual has been for years is the common lobelia. My favorite perennial is Walker's Low Catmint. My favorite hydrangea is limelight but a close second is the old fashion Annabelle. My new favorite perennial for fall color is the coneflower Tiki Torch from Overderest nursery that promotes native planting. I don't know if you have trouble with the squirrels and bulbs but I do. I have found planting a daffodil bulb or an allium bulb with the squirrels' favorite food , the tulip bulb deters them. Being fortunate to live near the nation's third ranked rose garden, I can check out what roses are being trialed for hardiness, fragrance, disease resistant, etc. On two arches the rose Above and Beyond is grown. It is an apricot pink rose with an incredible fragrance. My pick to plant this Fall. Do you dig and store the dahlias? Do you have lilies in your gardens? Do the container planters have drip irrigation? When you install the drip irrigation system in the other garden, would you consider videoing the process? It seems like an overwhelming project.
@growformegardening

What plants do you 'over winter' and how do you do it
@growformegardening
@growformegardening Жыл бұрын
If we overwinter something, we usually mean in the container they are planted in. We tuck them close to the house.

I would love to grow verbena bonariensis but people keep saying it’s invasive. Exactly how invasive is it? I garden mostly every day so removing the seedlings that pop up won’t be too hard. Are the seedlings easy to pull? Do they grow on the lawn? Thanks!! ❤
@growformegardening

The seedlings are sooooo easy to pull and they are pretty easy to distinguish so you don’t pull something you want.

Does it snow there? What the heck do gardeners do in the winter where it snows?

It snows a lot! It's nice to have the breather from the garden...in the last few years we have done some traveling, house work, etc
