A tip from a Scandinavian Carpenter. to prevent walls from sliding when lifting like that buy a strap (small one like 1000pound strap cut it twice the width so if u use 2by6 cut it 12 inches. naile the straps 12- 6 inches from the floor end, but leave the last 6 inches nailefree drag the down side of the wall exactly. 6inches from the floor end. so basicly drag the wall 6 inches over the straps nailed on the floor. now its just to lift the strap that are not nailed up on the bottom 2by6 and naile it to the wall. when u lifte the wall the wall cant slid becasue the straps holding it. screw the wall to the floor and just cut away the 6 inches on the floor ( the strap under the wall can just stay :) ( works also with a 500pound strap just use more of them i recomend 1 strap on each end of the wall and. if its a big one make one in the mid section to. sorry about my bad english ;) keep up the good work!

As I said in a previous post you spike the bottom plate to the chalk line with nails on angle then the wall will not slip off the subfloor . Then when you stand the wall up the nails pop out at full height you just bend them over bang them flat.

Ditto. I have been very happy that this has not happened yet. No harm no foul. No one was hurt and they will figure it out. I do not know how they are squaring with out pinning the wall down. Squaring it with the sheathing I suppose.

Yes that is an alternative to the blocks on the rim joists. It has to be done before the Zip panel is fastened to the wall..Either way a fixed fulcrum is needed.

The fact that nobody got hurt you is a blessing. You just need to chalk this up as a learning experience and do what you did - get back at it. Yeah, it probably really pisses you off due to the loss and the rework but you guys are doing this without an experienced crew so some of these kinds of things are bound to happen. We use the lumber banding as a sort of hinge, use 8 to 12 inch straps & nail one end to the bottom of the plate & the other end to the floor, and it will keep them from "shooting" off like that. Then cut the banding once it's up, then you can adjust it to your line.

Something I learned when I was running crane on big jobs from the framing crews is snap a line and lay your bottom plate on it and then toe nail on inside to floor, so then it will keep it secured to floor and as you pull wall up. Wish I could come help ya. Been watching you guys and I am impressed. My wife and I have built the guest house and shop and are pouring foundation, so we should start framing and flooring in about a week. I hope this helps.

Really exciting to watch walls going up! Just a suggestion if you run across a small filler stud again..switch guns to a finish nail gun to keep them from splitting. You only have to hold them in place until rocked, they aren't going anywhere after that.

I have no doubt in my mind that you all will complete and have a beautiful home! I hope you planned to have alternative heat source too! I like the flat topped wood stoves. Great for not only heating the home, but have an alternative source for cooking also. Might check out "Somers in Alaska". He has some sort of fan system that pulls the heat from the fireplace and distributes it throughout the house, saves them a fortune on heating costs. They also put in heat radiating floors.
