Our worst day of van life.

Welcome to our worst day of van life, what a day! As much as we were initially super hesitant to film the experience we knew it was important to show these things because... well they happen, that's van life for you. 😅 It's easy to focus on the dreamy side of van life and think these things won't happen to you (like we did)... we seriously did not expect to have any mice issues. But I think we dealt with it well and it was a great lesson for us. Our van will forever smell like peppermint going forward 🤣 Also sorry for this one being super long (40 minutes of us whinging hahah!) but we wanted to show our honest thought process and highs and lows throughout these last few days. Fingers crossed no more mouse issues going forward 🤞

Oh no! Thankfully we don't have many squirrels in Australia so at least we don't have to worry about them also. 😅🐿️

I don't think your rubbish is 100% to blame. The mouse (or mice) likely looked at your van as a new shelter. They generally will climb your tires, get into the engine, and then breach the cabin through your car vents. I 100% agree with the peppermint oil.

We did hear it's quite common for them to hop into vans for shelter and warmth. Either way we'll keep more on top of our trash just in case and going forward we'll keep our van smelling beautiful (to us) with the peppermint oil and will hope that deters any new visitors 😅

Ahhh the worst! 😭 Forever worried we'll get them again so we constantly try keep the whole van smelling like peppermint oil.

I'm glad you filmed your experience because it shows that in real life, not every day can go as planned. I respect people who don't fake or hide reality in their documentries. You both are discovering more about yourselves and each other. Life is about learning ways to cope, make adjustments, and create strategies & find solutions. Some work & some don't. You learn the true meaning of a pest when you encounter one or many. A mouse, flying ants or wasps will put anyone on edge & want to go to war on them. 😂

I think there is a bag (Kelty Trash Pak) that you can buy for the specific purpose of packing out your garbage. That way the garbage and smell stays outside until it can be disposed. The critters would stay outside as well. It does seem like an overall good thing that you saw the mouse. Otherwise, there is no telling how long you might have had a roommate!

Thank you for the recommendation, we'll have to check it out. 🙏 Typically we just use our kitchen bin and empty it as soon as it fills so usually don't have any issues. With this place having no rubbish facilities we tried to hold out a little bit longer. Never again haha! And agreed, so glad Wehan saw the mouse so we could deal with it quickly and prevent any serious damage!

Hi Lydia and wehan ….. I have been enjoying watching your videos. The metal mouse catchers are pretty good…. I caught a mouse in mine at home and released him/her in the bush. Happy adventures 😊 Ps: I put the peanut butter on crackers first, not being posh 😂, just easier to throw away and keep the trap a bit clean ISH

We've had the traps out every night since the sighting and I'm thinking it's probably time to clean it out... having the peanut butter on a cracker would have been much easier. So glad to hear the traps actually work though!

White vinegar 4 drops of dish soap and 1 cinnamon stick in spray bottle keeps fly miqetio away...and aunts aunts also use bay power they will be gone ...works for me..I bought a medle trach can with lid keeps animal s out use bungee cords cross lid and handles...😊 mice and squirrels like chewing on wire put some mint in engine

Just careful, if they are out it’s ok. But mouse doe’s revenged… check your wiring… they might bite it….

Luckily no signs of wiring damage, that was our main concern honestly, we were so scared it would damage something! Seems like it has left now but definitely going to be cautious going forward.

Outside is the best,you can tie it to your door handle ....I'm chuckling atm it's really to be expected Good luck catching it .....never go anywhere without xtra water 4 ltr at least

You likely did not KNOW you had an issue. Watch for droppings (Scat) Generally use a container for trash, and dump it frequently. Good luck.

Thank you! Thankfully no more signs of a mouse currently 😅🐭 Definitely learnt our lesson with the trash, usually we just use our main bin in the kitchen area and empty it as soon as it fills up. Being off grid at a campsite with no rubbish facilities we let it build up.

GET A CAT....EVEN CAT LITTER WILL KEEP MI E AWAY....I WAS CAMPING IN A TENT SLEEPING BAG...🐁🐀 WHEN I WOKE UP THERE WAS A MOUSE CURLED UP UNDER MY KNEE....😮 ALSO WATCH FOR 🐿 THEY LIKE ENGINES Maybe the mouse is in the garbage bag and you through it out with rubbish😊
