Thank you Fr. Mike for the powerful sermon! I needed to hear this! We need to keep striving for our inheritance. Doing our best in our personal battles. Detaching from hte world. even though the world tries to pull people in. Im at a stage yet where being chaste and keeping commandments is a "have to" yet and not "Im doing it out of love for the Lord". But I do want to get there. God bless Father.

It's those darn attachments again! Maybe it's not money or riches... maybe it's my TV programs or my addiction to comfort. I know I don't always put God first. I do see myself in this young man. And I know Jesus looks at me and loves me... in spite of my poor priorities. I can do better. With His love and His grace, I will do better. Have a beautiful day, Fr. Mike!

Boy, I’ve missed a lot through the years in this Gospel. I never noticed that Jesus looked at the young man with “love”. I also never noticed that Jesus said “give to the poor”, not give “it all to the poor”. I also missed the connection between of the prodigal son and the rich young man. I’ve also missed that the Graces Jesus gives us are our “inheritance” and that we “squander our graces”. My take away from this is also that this is why I need the Mass to hear the true word of God. Thank you Father Mike!!!

A Protestant recently confronted me with this question. He asked if I was saved. I said only God knows. I said I have faith and I was baptized and I try to obey God. He got angry and said faith alone saves and not good works. This is a great short and sweet answer for those of us who aren’t Bible scholars when getting grilled by angry Protestants.

Oh, how the modern church has fallen in love with the idea of 'cheap grace'! Thank you, Father Mike, for telling it like it is. May we, may I, ever and always deny self and follow Christ in holy living!
@FleefromROMEАй бұрын
Cheap grace? You must be referring to the "grace" of water Baptism because it "delivers no one."(Catechism 978) "Yet the grace of Baptism delivers no one from all the weakness of nature" - i.e. sin.(978) That is a cheap, man-made grace because it doesn't deliver anyone from their sins. Only faith in Jesus Christ alone delivers sinners. Those who believe in Him receive the "living water," the "Holy Spirit."(John 7:37-39) Only Jesus Christ is "full of grace and truth."(John 1:14)
@OurLadyoftheGulfCatholicChurchАй бұрын
Water baptism is the way we become children of Christ. Let’s see it in Scripture. At the very beginning of Jesus’s public ministry He was baptized. In Matthew 3:13-17 (and all synoptic gospels) he commanded John to Baptise Him and when John did, the heavens opened. In the midst of Jesus’s ministry, His conversation with Nicodemus Jesus says: “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5) Finally, the last thing Jesus does before his ascension was to command his apostles to: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19. Blessings!

I wouldn't say pathetic but as the scripture says, sad. Sad that he doesn't know Jesus well enough to understand only He can satisfy the deepest longings of our heart. Sad that he didn't see the look of love in Jesus's eyes. Oh Father God in Heaven I know how it grieves Your heart when we are separated from You. Please open our eyes to see Your love and our hearts to receive it. Through Jesus, Amen. 🤔 Maybe he saw him on the cross and that is where the transformation took place. Oh don't give up on us Father I pray. Only You know the right location for each one of us to be saved. I praise You for Your love, patience and understanding. Amen.

Father Mike, I have a sister who has tried to justify another sister, one daughter (both turned away from Mother Church) and even the likes of (for example) Taylor Swift... by claiming they are "good" people. That's such a relative term and, in today's gospel, Jesus sums it up in excellence. I'd love to think I'm a good person, but how can that be? I'm a sinner. Continue blessings, Father Mike, for pulling no punches.

What must you do? Believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and not in the so-called "sole Church of Christ" (Cat. 816) that says the "Church...is necessary for salvation," (846), that says water Baptism (which "delivers no one" - 978) is "necessary for salvation" (980) and that Penance to a sinner (a priest) is "necessary for salvation."(980) "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength" - Jeremiah 17:5

@FleefromROMEАй бұрын
@figurefour633 I would say that you are confused and blinded by the teachings of the Catholic Church. What did the so-called first Pope, Peter, say about "the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth" (v.10) in Acts 4:11-12? "This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in ANY OTHER, for there is NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN given among men by which we must be saved.”
@figurefour633Ай бұрын
