I'm 57 years old - I've been doing most of your 30 steps all of my adult life - and believe me - IT WORKS! I'm going to retire this year. Just want to point out - in calculating your FIRE number - make certain you put entertainment / travel in there also - not just basic expenses. OH - and do NOT forget health insurance. Maybe you covered that in previous videos. I think for younger people (and even people as old or older than me) - you give rock hard solid advice. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you guys. Very valuable advices. I found you just recently, but I want to say I did all these (or similar) steps about 2 years ago after I realized I was tired to live from paycheck to paycheck. And I can say to people who wants to start. Definitely do them. It works. I also want to tell people who are 50+, please do not get discouraged. I am a single mom of 2, who never even had a savings account. At 52, I did all those steps, simplifying my life, getting rid of debt, at 53 I opened saving, investing and ira accounts with my tax return money, and now at 54, I have about 20000 combined in all those accounts because for the whole year I was saving every penny (including all money government was giving in 2020), and I still have one of my kids living with me. So, It is possible. Now, I am so obsessed with investing. I am just upset I never thought about it for the previos 50 yrs. I always thought I did not have enough to save, but it is not true. All it takes, A FEW DOLLARS AND COMMITMENT. Yes, I will not retire early, but I want to retire comfortably at 62 and travel the world.

26 year old Millennial here. Being "Financially Independent" to me means that I could retire early and continue living my current lifestyle without ever having to work again, should I choose. So, my current “Financial Independence” number is around $1.62 million. Though it is not my total expenses I expect to have retirement because it hard for me to plan that out, it is my gross income replacement from my employer. So essentially, I plan on increasing my income regardless. But my main goal is actually reaching “Financial Freedom” (similar to “FAT FIRE”), which is my “dream/ideal” lifestyle which is beyond my current lifestyle, beyond my current budget. They say to pursue your dreams, so why stop at funding my current lifestyle and not my dream lifestyle. For example, my current lifestyle doesn’t allow for me to: 1) Go on vacations more often, 2) buy more gifts for my parents whenever their birthdays 3) to make tax-deduction charity contribution more often on a consistent basis, 4) to be that friend who pays for everyone’s lunch and not ask for a pay back, 5) and put extra money into my future child(ren) custodial account(s)…all at the same time. That’s my dream/ideal lifestyle. But it’s not my current lifestyle since it's not in my budget as of now due to my income not able to fund those 5 things also. Good video as usual!

Enjoyed 😊 I found your channel just two weeks ago and have watched whenever l have a chance. My husband and I have married in '81, both in university 20&21 year's old. Instead of student renting we bought our first house close to school and rented out two out of the three bedrooms.By graduation we had our first home paid for and, we bought our second house and had it paid for in eight years. l retired at 40 but my husband continued to work but this is his last year before retirement. We've been muilt millionaire's now for the last ten years,but when we became empty nesters we sold our large house and moved into an uptown lease condo to save money and invested. We winter in Maui each winter except for 20&21 and live a very comfortable carefree lifestyle. We have family and friends as old as we are, still with large mortgages, apparently owning a cottage in Muskoka that you need to take out a six hundred thousand dollars mortgage for, is the thing to do!!😳 Great content and very wise advice!!😊🍁

I got stuck on #1 😭. If you're under a certain age, you have to make so many assumptions when calculating your FIRE number. If I'm 30, how would I know what my life & financial obligations could look like when I'm 55, let alone at the normal retirement age?
@OurRichJourney3 жыл бұрын
Don't get stuck! Open up your budget and project how things might change. For example, you may travel more in retirement, your healthcare will probably be more. You can always revise your number before you actually retire. But by calculating it now, it will give you an idea of what you should be working towards! :)

My main problem is I want to move overseas with my son in the next 4-5 years. I’m debating on should I buy a house for 4-5 years and sell or rent while I’m overseas. I currently live with my mom and she doesn’t have a mortgage. Or should I rent. Me and my son need more space so that’s why we need to move. Or if I should convert the garage and maybe add a FROG. This would give us all the space we need and might only cost 12-15k. The cost of rent for 9-12 months where we live.

Hey guys, Thank you! You guys are such an inspiration! My sister and I our goal is to have 320k in 12 years to buy homes..we have about 800 a month to invest...right now we are only in mutual funds: Fidelity Blue chip Buffalo small cap..Fidelity Blue chip seems to be investing in the same as your investing *(Facebook, google,ect)..what should we do from here....thinking about doing exactly what you guys did though (I know you guys aren't financial advisors, and will not hold you responsible for my decisions, I just need help)

I got a printer from a Buy Nothing group. Granted, it was an impulse free shopping claim, but I’m so suprised how often we use it.

Most of my money is tied up in real estate, which I rent out for cash flow. My retirement is set up to utilize this cash flow for the first 20 years or so, until I’m in my 60’s, then draw from 401k and pension. So can I use the equity in my real estate as my FIRE number? It would be so helpful if you could provide guidelines for retiring using real estate. Thanks!

Hi Guys, love your video but have a couple of questions: - most of your videos are for your US base fans, would you do any videos for UK fans? Is it still worth investing in index funds in UK? Even if the fees are way higher? - my FIRE no is fairly low and I have 10% in savings, I’m 40, haven’t got much in my pension at all... does it still make sense to invest that in the index funds or properties even if you just live in that property? - would you create a video for Digital Nomads on how to get to the retirement early if they are constantly travelling? Is it better to pick a country and invest there or just focus on index funds? Even if you are not US based? Would be curious to see what you think.

Great tips!! Wish I’d heard of all this when I was still working. I’m very careful now, and living more minimally, however this would have changed my life. Ammon, you are younger clone of a close friend of mine. You look and sound like you could be his son... always makes me smile. All the best to you both. Obrigada ~

Im 23 and just now learning about this interesting 401k --> IRA conversion. Right now I only have 5% to get employer match in my 401k, maxed out an HSA account (employer puts in $500), and the rest of my investment money in "riskier" investments. Should I just forget about my HSA and put it in my 401k instead?
