What's also noteworthy is the fact that these girls are from the Indian state of Haryaya. They have one of the most skewed male-female sex ratio in the country. About Father not praising the daughter until she wins the gold medal... You need to know he clearly said in the movie that he can't play both roles as Father and Teacher/Coach, he should choose one of them and he choose to be their Teacher, who is encouraging but strict. In the film, the moment she won, he was a father who can express his feelings not their Teacher. I feel there are far more layers shown with subtlety that I can make a whole list of debate points. 😆 From what I got to know, the father in real life is far more strict than showed in the movie and not at all expressive but you can tell he loves his daughters.

Great Review! You guys should start watching Malayalam movies now. Technically and content/storywise, Films coming out of Kerala are shattering bases everywhere. An indicative list: Drishyam, Ustad Hotel, 22 Female Kottayam, Mumbai Police, North 24 Kaatham, Munnariyippu, Charlie, Angamaly Diaries, Maheshinte Prathikaram, Sudani from Nigeria, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Kumbalangi Nights. These were four different girls in the movie who were trained a lot, obviously. You should watch their training also on youtube , by the name "Making of Dhaakad Girls | Dangal " And about the thing regarding the father imposing his dreams on his children, he did it after he saw the potential. Indian culture has a lot of parent involvement, therefore it is not new for us as Indians to see the father pushing their children towards a goal. Also, love your reactions. ♥️
