The scene at coffee shop is my favourite too. The most striking thing which hits me in this sceneis towards the end, when Rani stands up and goes. She had recently put on Mehendi for her wedding which has not even fully dried. The bits of dried Mehendi or Heena is casually brushed off from table by Rajkumar Rao. The aloofness with which he does that totally hits me everytime

I agree with you guys on EVERY point you made here! It was such a lovely heart-warming film. And as a Japanese person, I can say this: the actor who played Taka was obviously not Japanese/ Japanese native speaker, it was as clear as the Italian chef not being played by an Italian actor. It's a shame because Taka is such a good character with the thorough background story related to the earthquake in Japan. He didn't come across as a pawn just to show racial diversity, which I appreciated and made me regret that tiny flaw. I would've understood why he spoke accented Japanese if he's depicted as a third cultured person but he's simply portrayed as someone from Japan and was speaking Japanese even when others were communicating in English. Anyway, it's a minor complaint. I loved all the characters except Vijay, and I was deeply touched by Rani's growth!

But, understanding how heart-breaking it must be for a father to see his daughter with the Mehndi on her hands and a sense of betrayal and rejection in her heart, I am not sure any Westerner with a casual acquaintance with Henna would pick up on. I have also suspected this for a while because Rick seems to pronounce names and Indian words much better than the average American would. So, he has had some exposure before, just not sure what kind.

In India, we have several film awards by various media houses, the actors guild etc. However, the most respected and coveted recognition is the National Award. This is given by the government of India and is awarded across all films made in a year - across all languages. Kangana is the only Actress who can work in a multistarer and yet stand out. There are movies where you will remember only her character. I feel she completely stood out in Fashion, Krissh-2, Shootout at Wadala even though she was supporting actress. She was 18 when she did her 1st movie- Gangster and yet she was so believable and mature in the role of a middle aged mom. Watch "Tanu weds Manu return" and then you will realize how versatile an actress she is....you wont even believe how she manifested in 2 different characters in the movie. Kangana Ranaut is a chameleon. She has looked so different in all her movies. The more you watch her movies, the more you will realise that you are watching a completely new character every time. Loved your review. I am so glad you started with Kangana's work. I agree with those who say they loved this a little more than English Vinglish. And I have to say I am as creeped out by lizards as queen and her friends were. I know it won't hurt me (I mean spiders can potentially do more damage to me but I am not afraid of them) but I have an extreme aversion to lizards. My reaction would have been exactly the same or more extreme if I were to see a lizard in my bathroom.

If you want to enjoy Kangana Ranaut's acting I think you can watch "Simran" it didn't well thats purely bcuz of the story or the script... but her acting was really flawless

Gr8 review!!! By the way regarding the lizard thing, kangana's reaction to the lizard is nothing compared to how my wife reacts to seeing one!!!! Not at all over the top in that scene!! :-)
