Hello ladies.. lovely little cruise..That was quite a big lock you passed through. nice of the swan family to visit you. The cats were quick to suss out the area and it is a lovely area. Top tourist spot.The dissused railway was The Stratford on Avon & Midland Junction Railway I think..Long time gone.

Lovely river to cruise - we did it on our 2nd trip so were real novices (also they had had flooding and it started on our way back to Tewksbury) Annemarie certainly got the hang of the mooring poles very quickly - well done

Another beautiful video, thanks! What’s the current like on the Thames and is there enough space for you to turn the boat to moor into the flow? We have a share in a boat on the Norfolk Broads, which are tidal, so the trick there is to make sure you know what whether the tide is coming in or going out so as to moor against the flow and have more control over the boat. Interestingly to see the really high flood poles on the moorings.

ide have thought you might have moored further down away from the weir because of those black buoy's as when one of the cats went over to them I thought it was about to jump on to them, as I didn't want to see or hear of either of them jumping on to them and slipping in and going over the weir, another gt video all the same, cant wait for the next one

Lovey area of the river, yes very few places of river to moor up to, but the lock areas are the safest place to stop as the river can rise very fast . I know the area very well as I used to moor my boat at welford Marina, now on the middle level at March

Hope you are both safe. HUGE amounts of water now feeding into the Avon around Stratford and coming your way. I know you release these videos long after they were recorded, so I am sort of hoping you have found your way to a canal and safety, as I have a feeling the Avon will be in the red fairly soon. The roads just north of Stratford that run alongside the river are now in serious flood, which is very unusual. That water will be slowly working its way down river.

Wow great videos now mooring ropes if you have a bollard to put your rope around DON'T JUST HOLD YOUR ROPE ON ONE SIDE OF THE BOLLARD ?? IF YOU MAKE JUST ONE LOOP A YOU CAN STOP THE BOAT PULLING AWAY AND IS EASY TO PULL YOU BOAT TO THE SHORE??? best wishes Ken and Christine

I used the bollard to stop the boat moving. If you rewatch in slow you see I then pulled and re-tie each time to pull it in. Text book awesome

Now if you make just one loop you control the boat After the one loop just pull the rope the boat stop without you pulling it and then once the boat stops just gently pull and the boat slowly come to the shore easy. !???Best wishes ken

Such a lovely vlog. The River Avon is beautiful. There is an unusual Diamond lock, which gave us a bit of trouble at one point. Trying to remember if it is before or after Evesham, which is a midway point. You will definitely recognise it. Have a great onward journey :)

Great question. I'm a confident swimmer and I can also grab the cats a bit better. So at 11pm one night when Munchy fell in (he was out past curfew) I had to shimmy along the gunwale and hang upside down and grab him soaking back into the boat.

The Luddington lock is right next to a small church where, as we were told, William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. If anyone has the chance, pop in for a visit, or go by for mass on Sunday, if one is so inclined.

Interesting about the locks we went upstream last year and most definitely had to tie up both end as there was a lost of wash. But enjoyed our time there maybe next time go the other way round the Avon ring

Yes, we were a bit worried, but they really weren't interesting in traversing it in the end, just interested in the sounds. Oh and what could live near a weir- they were interested in that. Mind you I never thought that Munchy would cross a lock either and he did when we moored up near on once.

Water conservation is not an issue.

It helps to save wear & tear on lock gate bearings by reducing the amount of times they are opened & closed, I believe.
