Love the lightheartedness of your natural selves much more than the more formal, scripted style. Still the nicest Narrowboat channel though.

More Avon, can't be bad!! Well, you managed to avoid two of the three p!aces we had to rescue hirers from when I worked for a hire fleet on the Avon! The first was Marcliff weir, where we once had a 65ft boat go straight over the Weir in a flood, they missed the lock cut completely!! Second was Harrington Weir, where they would get pulled sideways by the current, and get trapped against the weir, then we went out and winched them off! ( Quite common that one) The third one you haven't shown yet was when boats would go straight on at Offenham lock, and bypass it completely, by bumping there way down the weir stream! All helped to pass the time, never had anyone hurt!! By the way, I thought it looked like a crocodile!🐊🐊😏

Love the cats, the wife and I do town catch and release as well as feeding them. Compared to our lot (we have cats that on home-stay due to their parents situation and have 4 others of our own one is an hic? child but it's amazing what he can do, bit scary when he crosses the road though, his sister didn't make it but now he thinks he's grown up and interdependent, he's still only a baby at 3 years old but very determined. Love the fact your children can stay on a narrow boat and wait to get on land. Guess I'm just a softy, love all animals.

Seems so calm and peaceful. In re, the log, if that log were here in the States and if it were on the Mississippi river it might have been called a snag. Trees that were washed into the river would often get stuck in the river bottom and snag the passing river boats. Here in the States the only extensive remnant of the 1830's style of canal is the New York Barge Canal, here is a link to the New York State Canal System: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_State_Canal_System. There are other remnants, but for the most part either a railroad or other type of road got laid on top of the towpath, most often the canals just got plowed in and are forgotten by most folk here in the States.

Funny to see road signs on a river, different to the sign on the British canals. Here in Germany we have a special set of signs on all the inland waterways. Besides that you need to know them to obtain a license they are very helpful on the bridges because some are one-way, others limit the width available. But some are only important to commercial shipping on the canals and big rivers.

I'm no boater but my guess in respect of the use of the northernmost arch on Bidford Bridge heading upstream on the Warwickshire Avon, is that this a function of maintenance of maximum steering capability in high river flow rate conditions when the relatively low flow rates over the surface area of the rudder will make staying parallel to the water flow hard when encountering eddies induced by the bridge piers. The northernmost arch is relatively sheltered from the main flow. To be clear, using this arch will help prevent uncontrolled banging into the piers, or worse, getting pinned across a pier at speed. Simple hydraulic logic. Am I right?

Curious the differences in attitudes toward deer. Where I live in heavily forested central New York State the deer are everywhere, including yards in our city/near-suburban neighborhood. We see them everyday nibbling neighbors' landscaping or lying on the lawns. (Daffodils are equally common, because they're almost the only thing the deer won't eat.) People's attitudes vary from appreciation to frustration with the pests' persistent destruction of landscaping to eagerness for hunting season to start. Fawn season starts in late June each year, and by this time their spots are starting to fade, and they are twice to three times their sizes in early summer.

The driftwood reminds me of the turtles when we'd go kayaking at the mill pond on the Eno River. They loved to stand on logs or rocks just barely breaking the surface, legs fully extended and head up like that. I just noticed Annamarie's hat pin! The styling took me a moment to freeze frame just right and catch the color pattern. That is fantastic! And I have a special love of pins on hats, too; my daily wear when out is a red wool felt cavalier hat two which I have affixed two pins at this time. I must admit y'all have made me think that doing something of the sort would be a pleasant vacation in some future year. While I am a very social person my wife is not so much and the relative quiet and isolation would be welcome.
