It's really sad that they evicted her and the woman would not complete three pages of papers and one is a tax form. My landlord management office did mine when the office opened up July eighteenth and I went down there July 20th and filled out about 40 papers and took all of my information. The only thing I needed was a doctor's note because I have lupus and because my immune system is more susceptible to getting something like that on top of being on steroids, I stayed at home pretty much all the time between March through May and then after that I would just go out and wear a mask. her landlord is crazy for not filling out those papers because the landlord is going to be losing a lot of money that she could get between April 1st up to August 1st. 5 months of rent is a lot and thankfully mine is only going to be 3 or 4 months. The property management office said here that they can not charges for one month or they're not supposed to in Virginia for one month that a person didn't pay their rent but the other should be taken care of by the cares act when people apply.

If this woman lives in Richmond Virginia she doesn't live far from me because I'm in Roanoke about 3 hours away. Our governor gave an extra stay for eviction until June 28th but the people applying for the Care Act didn't start taking applications until July 18th. The people that are going to be going to court are going in July and August and getting evicted but I filled out my paperwork because I have Lupus and I'm on disability. I'm high risk so I couldn't get out with my immune system and being on prednisone. My manager at the lease office said that me and only one other person went to the office to pick up Care Act packages and nobody else did. That's pretty sad and maybe they don't know where to go so I've been telling people to contact Social Svcs & TAP. Total action against poverty because they're the ones doing the paperwork but it's at a different building and it's a confusing mess. Here in Virginia we have far too many slumlords and people that buy older property and rent it out for about 400 to 500 a month and they don't pay taxes on it.

@@cjkilljoy Right. If the landlord had only filled out the W9 he would've been paid. And I seriously doubt that it was at the $11K mark when she requested to have him fill out the paperwork. But by the time they went thru eviction court and tacked on all the rent owed, late fees and possible court fees....the amount had proably gone up way more than when she first started trying to take care of it. I'm glad she's going to court to try and fight it tho, because something seems really off about this. If a charitable agency is stepping forward to fully pay a tenant's delinquent rent, why would a landlord turn away that opportunity? If he didn't want anyone snooping into how he's possibly mishandling and under-reporting his business transactions, rental income and tax dealings....well, he just messed that up since it might all come out in court anyway. He most likely didn't assume that she'd take legal action. Best of luck to her and her daughter - I pray that everything works out for them soon.

@calba244 жыл бұрын
Oh, yes!!!!! I totally agree. Friends only know you when you are up, but don’t know you when you are down. I have been homeless, and jobless in the last recession that happened. I lived with family, and I went through hell! Some family you just can’t depend on at all, but they can damn sure cry tears when they need me. My mom had passed during the recession, so when I lost my job and then my home along with my car I had to rely on extended family such as aunts and uncles or live in the streets. They treated me like I was unwanted. Talked crazy to me just because I had nowhere else to go. I was put down so many days. I tried to find work, and I couldn’t because there were not a lot of jobs hiring at the time. I had family take me to restaurants to just eat in my face without offering me a crumb, and they knew I had no money. That would just make me feel so low, but I put on a brave face. That taught me then how to tell myself not to worry about nobody else, but myself. I learned my lesson the hard way. Now, those same family members are wondering how I am making it during this pandemic while they are struggling and hoping I will help them out. I may throw a couple of dollars, but that is it because I remember all those times I was cussed out and talked about just for not having a place to go. If a stranger on the street needed a place to stay, then they have a better chance bunking up with me than family. Family should be reliable when times get hard, but my dad’s people prove to me they aren’t worth spitting on if they were on fire. I try not to dwell on those unhappy times, but when I think how bad I was treated I get so angry because that is deep seated anger because my own blood treated me like I was trash. I made it, though...

So so damn True. And Do NOT leave your furniture, dishes, silverware, clothes, appliances and important papers in a family members' garage. It becomes a free for all for the family. You find out about it when you come to get your sh!t. Pictures gone, your stuff in their houses and everyone acts like nothing is wrong and nothing happened. Got more help from some strangers than from family. That is when you find out who has been jealous of you for Years all the time smiling in your face. When I get a little money will never ever tell those relatives a damn thing. And those would be the first ones in your face asking for help. F'k them!

Hi. I been literally homeless, in 2012. I had different response from friends and family during this down point in our life. It was my friends who came forward to help, while my family (parents and siblings from both my side and my husband’s) turned us away like trash. My boss gave me a blank cheque to help me pay deposit for a rental house and so in the whole year of 2013 we got to live in a rental house until we managed to buy another house fully paid with no mortgage. Seriously, I don’t know how suddenly we have that money. I guess it’s all the prayers from our dear friends who never stopped giving us hope.

That is a good point. But the eviction notice was in July, so she probably stopped paying rent after 1 or 2 months of losing her job. They yelled at us telling us that we’re horrible for not paying. That she has to go back to work because of us. We tried to enter for a rental lottery and assistance but unable to follow through because she won’t give us anything we need. So we’ve been packing. She lives below us in a 3 family house. It’s extremely uncomfortable. We will find something but everything is so much more expensive than before the pandemic. We live in a 3 bedroom. We have to look for a studio or one bedroom. We all hit hard times. I can say the most humbling experience is sleeping on a street or on the floor of an ATM room. An eviction is a scary time . This is why I strongly encourage people to max contribute to their 401k. Most 401k plans have a provision that allows you to take money out if facing an eviction. It also has a provision to allow you to take money out for a home purchase. If you max contribute for 2 to 5 years lets say, in most cities and states, you would have piled enough money to pay for a home in cash. Yes the home may be a little run down or needs work, but it will be yours.
