It's up to PSE and local governments. PSE would have to drop a few dozen mil to take crap off poles and run new lines and install infrastructure. All that requires permits, right-of-ways, and the will to actually spend that money.

Re the survey about power companies' ability to handle mass disasters: the only choice is to bury the utility lines. Expensive, but necessary. Even if just half the total number are buried. Also, these human beings are working as efficiently and safely as they can to get neighborhoods' power back up up and running. How about a little grace for them?
@solarwinds93632 күн бұрын
It might work to plan for electric wires to be put underground for new properties. It's probably a massive undertaking to retro-actively do the work. That said, power lines that are prone to be hit might be worth to bite the bullet and do it.

Its wild to see our infrastructure get worse and worse even when paying record prices. A decent chuck of western Wa lost power for days over 60-80mph winds over the course of a few hours. This is embarrassing in 2024. The winter hasn't even started.

@rocketdogticker does your state have the amount of trees we do? Houses,roads and power lines built in heavy woods?
@rocketdogticker3 күн бұрын
@MRblazedBEANS many of those states have trees they just have regular maintenance for landscaping. Here in Washington we allow dead trees to stay up, Widowmaker to swing in the wind. If you're familiar with Issaquah and the Taco Bell there then you wouldn't be surprised to know that there were four trees on it. The problem is the thought process in this state has grinded to a complete halt, the traffic is proof of that.
@flydragon72563 күн бұрын
In Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, and DC, >90% of people get their power back after 24 hours of an 80 MPH storm event. 3 days still isn't fast enough (granted, that's still better than Houston after Beryl in July 2024, which took 5-10 days).

NC and Tennessee still have over a thousand people unaccounted for after seven weeks. There's no help. Mud slides up on top of the mountains . Houses and communities are gone. Thousands lost their homes and are businesses are gone- washed away that there's nothing there. There's only one cadaver dog that's owner is a volunteer. 30' piles of debris where a plastics plant was is being mulched.. Thousands of volunteers went home. Hundreds are still helping. There was plenty of interference from ' people' that should have been in charge. Bridges and roads were washed away. Chimney Rock North Carolina got a lot of attention , but hundreds of miles look like that. My heart goes out to people here , but Florida , Georgia ,SC ,NC , and Tennessee still need help. They need generators. This is worse than Catrina in many ways. No homeless will be accounted for. Devistating

When are they going to bury the power lines like most other developed countries
@MRblazedBEANS3 күн бұрын
In my area of bothell we lose power 3 to 4 times a year 2 days is normal for rhe power outage they finally started putting the power lines under ground. What makes it hard, costly and take for ever is they have to do it into streets. Private property laws are strong and people don't like high voltage line buried threw their property, so they have to do it on public streets. They started in April and are about 20% done
@jerryg36523 күн бұрын
@@MRblazedBEANS ah I see. So it’s not just about the cost but also have to do with property laws. Over time, I think burying and having a robust grid would pay off. Think of all the manpower and the repair costs they have to deal with every winter. I’ve never heard of having backup generators until I moved to Seattle

I believe what I've composed, what's about to be sent, makes more sense, towards "Washingtonians" is more decent and ascends to be realized as truth by those astute to its' status based on truth, instead of an insult stated in a public place about the current state of disaster experienced now by those people I now know need more than your poorly-worded derision.
